Recently refurbished to Visit England 4 Star standard. Knowles is a comfortable quality home. Ideal for family holidays, re-unions, meetings or a good base to travel The Jurassic Coast. Great views over Coly & Axe Valleys. Local Golf courses at Seaton, Lyme Regis, Honiton & Sidmouth only a 15 minute drive. Private grounds, croquet lawn, soccer goal, golf driving net. Parking for 6-8 cars and area for trailer parking. Well tended mature gardens with herbs & vegetables available most of the year. Open fire places in sitting room and dining room. Easy access to downstairs twin ensuite with own sitting room. Classic easy stairs, hall way & downstairs WC. Children & Dogs are welcome.

About Allan MacLean

Knowles has been in The MacLean family for three generations and is currently owned by Allan & Alasdair MacLean, who live nearby.

Knowles is a great family home built in 1890's, when houses were constructed to work with the climate as no central heating or refrigeration were available, so utility rooms to the North, Living rooms facing south.

Our parents were both keen gardeners and we have both seen things grow and change over the years.

Knowles was completely refurbished in 2012 and as neither of us wanted to live there, we decided to make it into a high level self catering property.

Allan & Heather MacLean will be on call for you during your stay to give you local advice & assistance

Why Allan MacLean chose East Devon

Colyton and East Devon/West Dorset are relatively unspoilt as most holiday makers travel by on their way west.

There are good road and rail links with the county towns of Exeter & Taunton only 20 miles away.

We have some good Golf Courses locally, a very good local Grammar School, wonderful countryside for walking, painting, hunting and shooting.

Being so close to the sea we have excellent boating and fishing facilities.

Most of all it is peaceful.

What makes this house unique

Knowles is ideal as a base to travel from for holidays and activities in East Devon, West Dorset & South Somerset, sitting on the Borders of all three Counties.

As a family we enjoy local Fish Restarants especialy The Riverside at Westbay. With The Dolphin in Beer as our favourite nearby. Fresh produce is available all year round and Miller's Farm Store at Kilmington is ideal for local supplies & their wide range of quality continental products.

If you are interested in Motorsport, we have Wiscombe Hill Climb only 3 miles away, plus regular Motocross & Trials Events.

There are always local Sailing & Angeling oppurtunities.

There is also the unique Seaton Electric Tramway from Colyton to Seaton via Colyford operating year round.

Seaton Wetlands & Bird Sanctuary is nearby

Fantastic place for a family gathering or reunion!

We booked the place for a friends reunion with most of our friends coming from overseas (8 out of 12).

Allan was a great communicator and gave us a tour through the house upon welcome. The house was absolutely stunning, with proper beds, lounge and large kitchen. There was a huge well maintained garden where we have spent most of our time. He also recommended plenty of places to visit, local pubs and shops.

A big bonus is that bed linen and towels were provided.

We would definitely recommend this place.

Knowles house party

Our bedroom was enormous, light and airy with fabulous views over the garden and to the valley beyond. It had a brand new en-suite to the bedroom with a decent sized shower too, with loads of hot water...which is always a bonus.

Allan was such a great host, very attentive and treated us to some terrific breakfasts!

Knowles gave us access to so much beautiful countryside along the Jurassic Coast and is certainly a house we will be returning to...especially with family and friends...it's enormous!
