Thanks to a friend, we first found Les Carroz in 2004 and, to cut a long story short ended up buying our apartment during that holiday. Happily, we haven't regretted it a bit, and have enjoyed many family holidays since. This large, modern chalet apartment is on the 2nd floor of an MGM-designed building, offering stunning Alpine views front and back. Key features include: very good size (4 bedrooms, including one on mezzanine); fully-equipped open-plan kitchen/dining/living area with TV, stereo, WiFi internet access, large sofa, further seating; large balcony front & back; good storage (wardrobes, drawers); good range of DVDs, games and books; easy & regular links to ski areas by free ski bus service; located opposite newly-modernised state-of-the-art gym, pool, spa, tennis and sports leisure complex. We upgraded the apartment to be more child-friendly than standard, with stairgates to the mezzanine and to the main balcony, as well as perspex 'guard' screens on the balconies.

About Lorraine

We bought this apartment after seeing it being built during a summer holiday in the village, and haven't regretted it. Skiing is really great for our whole family, and we have found the Grand Massif ski area to be particularly good for family skiing, as it's well-linked to adjacent centres and resorts, such as Morillon, Samoens and Flaine. The ski tuition here is excellent, and our girls are almost ready for race school, after three seasons. We love skiing, but also love coming here for summer, as there are so many mountain activities that we can enjoy (as well as many opportunities to chill out and sunbathe by the pool, or work out in the gym). We've hiked, explored the area by mountain bike, rented road bikes to play at being Tour de France riders, swum in lakes. Welcome to our home!

Why Lorraine chose Les Carroz d'Arâches

Les Carroz is known as a family-friendly village with quite a local feel to it, yet international in its outlook. The villagers welcome visitors warmly, and we have made some good local friends here, both in winter and summer. Having holidayed here for some time, we feel that Les Carroz is a bit of a gem in terms of what it offers for activity holidays and relaxing alike. The village puts on regular free events throughout the year, including Santa sessions, live music, weekly market, Easter Egg hunts, etc., and there is just enough of a buzz to enjoy a holiday without feeling that there are too many people around to make things feel hectic in any way. We love the local restaurants and bars, and the kids have a playground off the village square to enjoy.

What makes this apartment unique

As well as being close to the village, and easily accessible by foot, free bus or bike), we like being so close to the pool, spa and gym complex. In terms of the apartment itself, we love the views from both front and back balconies, and the space inside that lets us spread out. Particularly good for kids and teenagers is the mezzanine, which we think of as an extra chill-out area at the top of the apartment.

Notes on accommodation: 4pm Sat check-in to 10am check-out the following Sat, and rates listed in our table are for a 7 night stay. Don't worry: we won't eject you on Friday evening! Visitors to our apartment have left very kind and warm comments, with many of them complimenting us on how child-friendly it is, and how grateful they are for the little touches (books, DVDs, etc), as well as the quality of the skiing. Many have expressed a wish to be back soon for another holiday. Large sofa and benches are conducive to lounging around after a hard day's skiing/boarding. Double split-level arrangement with internal staircase gives this apartment a bright and airy feel. Mezzanine provides privacy and useful accommodation, particularly useful for older children; there is a small TV upstairs, for DVDs. Ceiling in the open plan living area is double-height. Three of the four bedrooms may be configured as double or two singles, providing flexibility. Strictly no-smoking apartment (made of wood!). Outside: Communal green outside the chalet. Shared car parking area. Table and chairs on balcony. Opposite: heated pool, sauna, spa, fitness gym with fixed, hydraulic and free weights, plus yoga and dance/aerobics studio. Utility Room: Entrance hallway has cupboard for vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, spare bulbs, mop/bucket, sweeping brushes. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen is included, and will be laid out on beds upon arrival; guests will be responsible for making beds. Cleaning will be carried out on guests' behalf, but guests will be expected to leave the apartment in a clean and tidy condition.

Stunning alpine apartment

We had a superb holiday in Les Carroz and our wonderful accomadation played a huge part. The whole process was made easy by being able to deal with the owner directly. Lorraine (owner) was an absolute pleasure to deal with and her apartment was beautifully presented with all the space you could need. The open plan kitchen dinning area was particularly impressive and a great place to all sit around and eat a meal. Each of the bedrooms had plenty of space for your things and well placed heaters throughout the apartment meant the whole place could be kept lovely and warm even with the outside temperature well in the minus's. Overall I don't think you could find a nicer place to take a family or group of friends for a ski trip in the alps.

This apartment is spacious, comfortable and well equipped, just a short bus ride to the ski lift

We were a group of 4 friends, so all had our own bedrooms (with one in the mezzanine). Great to have the extra shower room, too. Although a little way from the Centre Ville, the bus stop which takes you there and to the gondola is right outside and they are very regular. On a few occasions, we walked back from town, and it took less than 10 mins. Would definitely go back.

Lovely Apartment...Highly Recommended..

We stayed for 3 nights from 28th January this year and found the apartment to be just perfect for our needs. It was immaculate upon arrival, has a lovely lounge area with a high ceiling, nice long table to eat at, great wi-fi and all the necessary utensils in the kitchen area.

There were 3 of us so we had a bedroom each, in fact I preferred sleeping upstairs in the mezzanine room as it was really spacious and has a nice desk and room to spread out.

The walk into town from here is about 10 mins but we really liked it, nice to get some fresh air coming back after a couple of local beers. Loads of snow when we were there so the walk was even better.

The front balcony has a great view to the town and the mountains, you can even just see the red Timalets run into town. Balcony to the rear has great view as well.

We hired a car to get to and from Geneva, parking is excellent just at the back of the apartment and even with loads of snow the car park was cleared every morning - alternatively the free bus to the telecabine stops right at the end of the drive.

Overall, highly recommended - a lovely aprtment.

The kitchen area is small but well equipped. The bus service to ski resort is excellent.

4 bedrooms?

The apartment is nice and is well equipped BUT it does not have 4 bedrooms. It has 3 bedrooms and a mezzanine floor with beds on it. The mezzanine floor does not have a door so lacks privacy/ability to block out noise. Worth thinking about if you are planning to use it for small kids.

Special interest holidays:

Mountain-biking: special downhill and singletrack courses available, of varying difficulties. Annual VTT Ticime mountainbike event starts and ends in Les Carroz. Road cycling. Road to the village was used in the Tour de France in 2009. There is also a popular skate and bike park near the pool/spa complex, as well as a beach volleyball court. Boules is very popular, and surprisingly competitive, in the summer.

Coast/Beach:

Beaches on Lake Annecy, also on Lake Morillon.

Travel:

1 (one) hour travel time from Geneva Airport to the apartment, so very convenient. Good transfer services available also.

Distances:

Apartment is around 10 minutes walk or 3-5 mins cycle to the village centre. Geneva is 1 hour away by road. Annecy (lake, canals) around 1-2 hours. Sixt Fer a Cheval and Morillon around 30-40 minutes by road. Lyon around 3 hours.

Further Details:

In addition to winter activities, the apartment is ideally located for other sports, and in particular mountain-biking, road cycling, hiking, tennis, swimming, paragliding. The village is well served with 3 supermarkets, several bar/pub/cafes, several restaurants, playground, cinema, many clothing and equipment shops (skis and boards in winter, mountain bikes, road bicycles in summer). Also: archery, ice skating, horse riding, caving, canyoning (mental!), rafting (pretty mad too), and freshwater fishing (much more sedate). Triathlon events, ultra marathons and similarly mad challenges take place in the region.

A 25% non-returnable deposit is required to secure your dates, by cheque or bank transfer, in GBP or Euros. Balance of the total due no more than 8 weeks before date of arrival, plus a deposit of £400 to be held against any potential damages, losses or additional cleaning. Once inspection is satisfactorily completed after your departure, the deposit will be returned to you, net of deductions, if any. Changeover Day:
Generally, arrival on Saturdays at 4pm, with departures on Saturdays at 10am. The system will not allow us to list our rates for a Saturday to Saturday stay, so they are listed as Sat to Fri. Don't worry though, as we won't eject you on a Fri evening!
