About the property

Near Helford and Falmouth, Walking Distance To Pub And Restaurants

"As Skiber' just means The Barn. This lovely old building has been completely renovated and converted for living, with great sensitivity and to a very high standard. It has been fitted out very comfortably, with a fab kitchen complete with Aga (which also has a conventional hob and oven, so don't worry if you are not familiar with using these kitchen icons). It will appeal to families, but is also great for couples or groups of friends. It is set on the side of a very pretty glen - you will access via the 'top' into the living area. From the living area you can step through French doors onto your roof terrace - a sun-trap and great place for a glass of wine and a book. The bedroom and bathrooms are down the stairs - two of the bedrooms open directly into the gardens. Outside is a lovely 'alfresco' dining area and barbecue, and the gardens, which are mature but have also been added to by the owner who is a passionate gardener. It is full of 'secret spaces' where children can hide, or adults can get away from it all.

Guestbook comments from the manager

“… found An Skiber and its garden quite restful and peaceful. Hardly a sound to be heard. The area — as ever — so beautiful”

The Cunninghams – August 2013

“An Skiber is set in truly idyllic surroundings. We loved our time staying there”

Stephen, Kaye, Brian, Audrey, Rachael and Hannah – August 2013

“What a lovely and magical place An Skiber is. We’ve had the best holiday aver, so the children have said… the cottage and grounds are absolutely beautiful…”

Simon, Emma, Laura and Charley – August 2013

"The effort and energy that you have put into An Skiber must have been colossal and the result is visible everywhere we turned… the attention to detail, design, colour and furnishings has been totally appreciated… It is difficult when booking a holiday accommodation to pick among a myriad of offerings and so good to have booked a place that is exactly what the advert says it is. Thank you so much." Peggy from Oxford – September 2013

"Had a lovely week. It was a joy after a day out to return to our barn. Beds were really comfortable. A most welcoming holiday cottage – so well equipped and I loved your natural garden. Our favourite beach was Keynance Cove – so unspoilt. Would love to return."

The Caddy Family from Kent – August 2014

"In all the years we've traveled An Skiber is by far the loveliest and most pleasing home we've rented. The house, the garden, the village of Constantine and, of course, the coastal walks and surroundings have made this a most enjoyable and peaceful time."

Outside: One of the special things about the barn is its garden. Cornwall’s is famed for its stunning sub-tropical gardens — Trebah, Glendurgan, Carwinnion and Potager are literally only minutes away. Our mild climate all year round, as well as our south-facing aspect allow plants to thrive that originate from the Mediterranean, Chile, South Africa and Australasia. In the spring the garden is coloured with azalea, rhododendron and camellia… and summer bring out the Chilean fire bush, gunnera and lush ferns. The garden is surrounded by mature trees – oak, sycamore and willow. Accessed direct from a path running from your garden and past the grove of tree-ferns you will find your woods – about six acres in all. The owner uses them infrequently and you have free access for adventures. With a bit of a scramble you can access lanes and footpaths direct from the woods, leading to Polweveral Creek and the Helford River estuary. Utility Room: In the separate utility room is washing machine and tumble-drier, with a WC off it. Here you will find ironing board etc too. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning is done to a high standard before each stay. If you stay for multiple weeks you can have additional weekly cleans at no extra cost if you wish. Bedding and quality linen is provided, as well as hand and bath-towels, and tea-towels Other: The room terrace opens up through French doors form the living area. It has a table and chairs where guests can dine or relax.

Special interest holidays:

A note for garden enthusiast:The owner’s cottage is situated on the far side of the wide driveway and has further extensive gardens which are fascinating. For garden enthusiasts we can usually arrange private visits with the owner or gardener, just let us know in plenty of time before your stay.

Constantine village is set close to the beautiful Helford River, and at the 'gateway' to the Lizard peninsular - so creeks, beaches and coastal walks are all around you. The beaches of Helford Passage, Durgan, and Maenporth are 5-10 minutes drive away. Slightly further is Falmouth with its beaches Swanpool and Gyllyngvase - or on the Lizard are Kennack Sands, Kynance Cove (a big favourite with our guests), Church Cove, Gillan, Praa Sands, and many more. These range 15-30 minutes away by car.

Newquay airport is 33 miles away. The ferry port at Plymouth with its services to Roscoff and St Malo is 1.5 hours drive. We can supply full information on request.

The barn is just outside the village, which you can get to by walking back up the lane. It's only a 5 minute stroll to the heart of the village.

Further Details:

Constantine village has a vibrant community and a rich history. It has a well stocked Spar shop for day-to-day provisions, but there are various farm-shops too (the best is on the road in to Falmouth). The Post Office doubles as an off-licence which has one of the most extensive selections of specialist spirits you'll find anywhere, as well as its own tasting bar. Be warned. Best local restaurant is the (famed) Trengilly Wartha (gastro-pub) which you can get to fairly easily by footpath so no need to drive home!
