About Colm Doran

The owners, a married couple, a chartered accountant and former science teacher, are directors of a process improvement consulting company.

We advertise two properties through Owners Direct:

Primrose Cottage, a 17th century thatched cottage near Salcombe in South Devon, UK (Owners Direct ref: E13319) has been owned since 2001. We spend several visits each year walking round the South Devon Coastal path and visiting the villages and resorts in The South Hams.

We have also owned a ski apartment, at 1575m height in Les Trois Vallees, France (Owners Direct ref: FR20590) since 2007. We spend several weeks in Le Bettaix skiing and walking in the mountains. We seek to defray costs whilst allowing guests to enjoy winter and summer in a peaceful hamlet by Le Doron river.

Colm Doran purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Colm Doran chose Le Bettaix

We have skied in the Trois Vallees for many years. In 2007 we were delighted to discover the hamlet of Le Bettaix, hiding at 1575m below La Masse and Les Menuires. It has a river, no through traffic, with chair lift access to the Three Valleys ski circuit but without any crowds. We have discovered a ready made social life, with ski companions and friends who enjoy walking in the mountains in summer. We keep finding out more about life in the Vallee des Belleville, which is enchanting.

What makes this apartment unique

Our village is quiet and traditional, with no through traffic, just lovely views, a river and fast chair lift access to the entire Trois Vallees circuit, which allows us to enjoy a very comfortable warm chalet with easy access along the riverbank to the ski slopes and mountain walks. There are no disturbed nights caused by revellers and we like it that way. We hope you will too.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Colm,

Hope you are keeping well,

Your apartment is beautiful and very cosy, we especially liked the underfloor heating in the main living area and agree that 20c is the optimal setting. We didn’t have to use the wall heaters as the warmth from the living area kept the bedrooms warm/ comfortable.

Quality cotton bedding and comfy beds made for a good nights sleep (nothing to do with the exercise of skiing), pictures and paintings on the walls created a relaxing and homely ambience, Coupled with high quality furnishings.

We liked your painting of mount Blanc in the kitchen, Julie appreciated this as she does paintings herself.

The lift, boot room and garage is a good set up and works really well, leaving the apartment in the morning, down a floor, boots on, down a floor out through the garage, easy, peasy !

The walk to the chairlift was further than expected in the ski boots, however after 2 days it was fine and in fact it was good to stretch the legs and use other muscles after a full days skiing.

We were averaging 16-18 runs a day – courteous of my son who pushed us all- we did 80km of skiing most days, no relaxing lunches for us.

Le Bettaix is very peaceful and has a nice charm.

We really enjoyed our stay and it made a refreshing change from the ugly concrete hotels/apartments that are normally provided in French ski resorts.

The new ski shop in Le Bettaix inter-sport gave me a flyer regarding a bread delivery service to the apartment each morning.

I left the leaflet in the apartment.

In terms of eating out, we can recommend the “Au Village” in Les Menuires, They specialise in Savoyard cuisine.

Raclette and Fondue. Good quality food, service is excellent and is reasonable priced average 25 euros PP for Dinner.

Their is also a nice little wine bar/shop directly facing the restaurant which we visited a couple times.

Thanks for all of your help in making the experience pleasurable.

Regards

Neil, Julie, Tom and Robert

A stunning appartment in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great family holiday in this appartment. The owner had sent us very detailed directions, entry instructions and info about local amenities, all of which were both accurate and useful.

The appartment is extremely homely and well furnished and is close enough to walk to the chair lift (5 mins)

Parfait / Perfect

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is very luxurious : very good bedding, spacious and clean apartment. The boot warmer into the ski locker and the garage are usefull.

The owner, Colm is very helpful and pleasant.

It was a great holiday in les Bettex. We hope come back.

Ski Hoilday's in France

  • 4 of 5

We have found a nice apartment and all instructions are detailed described so that there was any issue over the day’s.

Yes you are right that the snow was not so match as it was forecasted, however it was possible to go from Bettex to Menuires, Merribel, Val Thorens or to Courchevele.

So everything was good prepared under this conditions and the ski arena is really beautiful. We enjoyed the stay and the nice area around. We went 2 times in a restaurant one time in Courchevelle, they have made the beef in the chimney nice place and high quality of food. The second time we went to Reberty close to the speed mountain and also there we have got an excellent Dinner.

At the end it was a great holiday.

Thanks for the nice time, I believe that we will come back in the next season.
