Les Chalets du Doron lie at 1556m in the beautiful hamlet of le Bettaix, 300m from a chair lift which gives direct access to the Trois Vallées' 600 miles of pistes. Apartment B2 has 72sqm of habitable space and south west facing balconies overlooking the river Doron. There is ample parking by the chairlift, which was upgraded to a fast 4 man chair from Dec 15. An easy blue run, with snow cannons, ensures that beginners can return home safely all season. The apartment has its own marked car space within a secure garage underneath the accommodation, with lift access. There are 3 similar size double bedrooms, all with under floor heating. One has an en suite shower room. There is also a bathroom with bath, shower attachment and 2 wcs. The lounge, with comfortable sofa, has TV/CD/DVD and ipod docking music system and free wi-fi. The secure ski locker has ample room for storing skis and poles with heated boot warmers.

About the Owner

The owners, a married couple, a chartered accountant and former science teacher, are directors of a process improvement consulting company.

We advertise two properties through Owners Direct:

Primrose Cottage, a 17th century thatched cottage near Salcombe in South Devon, UK (Owners Direct ref: E13319) has been owned since 2001. We spend several visits each year walking round the South Devon Coastal path and visiting the villages and resorts in The South Hams.

We have also owned a ski apartment, at 1575m height in Les Trois Vallees, France (Owners Direct ref: FR20590) since 2007. We spend several weeks in Le Bettaix skiing and walking in the mountains. We seek to defray costs whilst allowing guests to enjoy winter and summer in a peaceful hamlet by Le Doron river.

We had a great week, skied back to Le Bettaix everyday (head torches after vin chaud en route)! We were amazed that we could lose most of the crowds and apart from some 3 valleys links hardly queued. Courchevel 1650 on New Year's Day was empty, great lunch and service at the Bel Air with a clear view of Mont Blanc from the table.

Lovely apartment - we felt very comfortable.

Lovely flat for family skiing

This is a lovely flat, pretty much ideal for us - a family with Mum and Dad plus four children - for skiing. Well furnished and clean without being at all ostentatious - and a five minute walk from a lift that takes you quickly into the heart of the Three Valleys. The owner Colm was so helpful and pleasant to deal with. I recommend!

Chalet des Doron

This was our second stay in one of the Chalets apartments and we were pleased to enjoy the peace and quiet of Le Bettex. The owners were very pleasant and easy to deal with and had provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The apartment is comfortably furnished and well equipped with unlimited hot water and wi fi which suited our teenagers! The only downside to the resort is that it doesn't have a shop although you can get bread from the Twinner ski hire. Having a car is a must.

Home from home in Le Bettaix

We stayed at Le Bettaix Les Chalets du Doron for a weeks' skiiing. We are a family of four - including two teenagers. We drove down to Le Bettaix.

Le Bettaix is a small town just below Les Menuires. It's about 4km or so by road, and it's possible to ski down from Les Menuires. The apartment was easy to find, and the brilliant instructions from the owner had us parked in the garage within minutes. The apartment is on the second floor. I'm guessing that there are only 4 or so apartments in this block, spread over 3-4 floors. The garage is accessible via stairs or a lift.

On entering the apartment, it was like coming home. It's obvious that the owners have spent a lot of time and attention here, and they probably spend an amount of time here as well. Furnishings were good quality, there was cable tv, wifi, music system which was all available to use. The main accommodation is a single kitchen/diner/living room space - which is very large and opens up on to a huge balcony on one side. The balcony faces the mountains and got the sun during the day. To one side it the small river Doron. There is no traffic, no noise at night - just peace and quiet.

There are 3 bedrooms, a small ensuite shower in the master, a separate wc and then a family bathroom. Ample space, as well as lots of cupboards, coat hooks etc. The place was spotless when we arrived and we settled in immediately. It felt like coming home every night.

The apartment is about 5-10 minutes walk from the 2 man chair life out of Le Bettaix into the Les Menuires region. We used it a couple of days, but found it got us to Les Menuires just as the ski schools set off, so most of the time we drove to the ample parking at Les Menuires.

If you are after nightlife and restaurants and bars, this is not the place for you. There is not much in the village itself, so we either ate out (really expensive in The 3 Valleys) or shopped in Les Menuires and then ate at the apartment. There is a cooker, microwave, hob etc as well as a large fridge and loads of pots/pans etc, and then a dishwasher to clean it all up afterwards!

Overall, the apartment was fantastic, and I'd have no hesitation in going there again, or recommending it to anyone.

From the Owner

We have skied in the Trois Vallees for many years. In 2007 we were delighted to discover the hamlet of Le Bettaix, hiding at 1575m below La Masse and Les Menuires. It has a river, no through traffic, with chair lift access to the Three Valleys ski circuit but without any crowds. We have discovered a ready made social life, with ski companions and friends who enjoy walking in the mountains in summer. We keep finding out more about life in the Vallee des Belleville, which is enchanting.

Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble/Isere airports are all 2.5 hours’ drive from Le Bettaix. Chambery is 1.5 hours away.The N90 dual carriageway from Albertville to Moutiers takes 30 minutes. Exit at sortie 40 (signposted Val Thorens/Les Menuires/St. Martin) and drive up the mountain on D117, which takes 30 minutes - longer on Saturday afternoons. Turn off at Praranger for Le Bettaix. Calais to Le Bettaix is 595 miles.


The nearest villages, for shopping, groceries, concerts, bars, restaurants, are Les Menuires and St. Martin de Belleville, both of which are 10 minutes drive.

The Baroque church of Notre Dame de la Vie is also a 10 minute drive.

Val Thorens at 2300m is accessible by car in 20 minutes.

Moutiers is 30 minutes drive and provides access to Meribel, Courchevel, the ski resorts of the Tarentaise and Annecy.

Praranger, which houses sheep in winter, is a short walk as is a working mill museum

The ski shop in Le Bettaix operates a fresh bread service each morning.

There are 2 Carrefour supermarkets in Les Menuires and other supermarkets. Carrefour Montagne is open 8am until 8pm. There are several appealing typically French food shops and the range of other shops is extensive.

In Les Menuires the tourist office provides helpful information and Le Skilt bar shows Sky TV sports matches. The Pourquoi Pas piano bar, behind the church in St. Martin, is well frequented in early evening with weekly live music.

Les Menuires has an excellent indoor sports centre with pool.

Garage des Menuires deals with any vehicle related incidents.

There are several cross country ski trails around Le Bettaix. The 2010 Olympic biathlon champion grew up in the village. Equipment hire and lessons can be arranged in Les Menuires or St. Martin. Planning permission has been granted to upgrade Le Bettaix chairlift from Dec 2015.

Les Menuires and Val Thorens have long toboggan trails. Tickets can be purchased in both resorts. Snowshoe excursions are held throughout the season. "Speed Mountain" toboggan roller coaster at Les Bruyeres is open daily from noon.

Free concerts are held regularly in Les Menuires and St. Martin featuring classical music, blues and jazz ensembles.

Summer activities

Walking / mountain bike piste maps are printed each summer showing daily lift access points to the high mountains. Many spectacularly beautiful walks are accessible on foot or by car from old Savoyard villages in the Belleville valley.

Les Menuires was the 2013 venue for the French national mountain bike championships whilst Meribel was the 2012 venue. Mountain bikes can be rented in les Menuires.

Cycles can be hired at St. Jorioz on a picturesque cycle trail near lake Annecy, and on the Aime to Bourg St. Maurice Isere valley route, which ends at the French national kayak centre. White water rafting is also possible from Macot. Several lakes have safe swimming.

A booking deposit of £300 is required, paid by bank transfer, to secure a booking with the balance payable eight weeks before arrival. A £300 security deposit to cover possible damage is also payable, refunded within fourteen days of departure.

Cancellation fees are:

4-8 weeks before arrival: 50% of rental value
2-4 weeks before arrival: 70% of rental value
Less than 2 weeks before arrival: 90% of rental value

Changeover Day:
Preferred changeover day is Saturday with arrival after 3 pm and departure before 10 am.

Notes on prices:
In winter change over dates are typically Saturday to Saturday.
In summer it may be possible to consider different lengths of stay.

From the Owner

Our village is quiet and traditional, with no through traffic, just lovely views, a river and fast chair lift access to the entire Trois Vallees circuit, which allows us to enjoy a very comfortable warm chalet with easy access along the riverbank to the ski slopes and mountain walks. There are no disturbed nights caused by revellers and we like it that way. We hope you will too.
