Previously graded as 5* by English Country Cottages, Stepps Cottage is one half of a 15th Century original Devon Longhouse. Built from stone and with a thatched roof, the house sleeps 6 people comfortably and has been tastefully furnished to provide all the comforts of home. The property is centrally heated and has a Rayburn oven in the kitchen plus log burnewr for those cosy winter nights and in the summer is a perfect spot for enjoying long country walks or visiting the many beautiful beaches, towns and villages surrounding.

About the Owner

My Wife, Sandra, and I live in Weybridge in Surrey and have been married for 37 years. We have two grown up Children, Madeline and Nick.

I have been self employed for 25 years and work in South West London and Sandra works for the NHS.

We had been visiting Axmouth for some years as a friend also owns a property there but in 2007 decided to buy a place of our own. We fell very much in love with Stepps Cottage as we love the old world character of the place although the upkeep of a 400 year old property can sometimes be daunting.

We visit the house a lot during the winter when it is very much a home from home.

This property is fantastic. Full of history and in a great location. Very cool in the summer. I'd love a winter break there ... with a roaring fire after some long walks beautiful.

Special interest holidays:

The property is very close to the well known "River Cottage" who run a number of cookery courses.

Coast/Beach:

The beach front at Seaton is within a two minute drive or twenty minute walk. The busy beach at Lyme Regis is within a 15 minute drive. Smaller and very pretty beaches can be found at Branscombe and Beer whilst Woolacombe, West Bay and Exmouth are all within easy driving distance.

Bookings should be made direct with the Owner, Jeremy Wright by e mail or telephone on 020 8741 7400. A deposit of £250 will be required at the time of booking.
The full amount of the rent will be due 4 weeks before the holiday date at which time the £250 will revert to a bond against damage and breakages.
The bond will be returned within one week of the end of the holiday assuming the property is returned in good condition.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is a Friday. Outgoing Guests should vacate by 10.30am and ingoing guests can have keys from 3pm.

  • Outside: Externally, there is a pretty rear garden which is well stocked and faces west. There is a large, sun trap patio with table and chairs which seat at least 6. Utility Room: There is a small utility area which houses the Fridge/Freezer and washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned by the Caretaker at the beginning and end of each tenancy. We provide a full linen and towel service.
