Updated: 02-Sep-2016
Gite in Le Haut Souchet, near. Vire, Calvados, Normandy, France - Fantastic Gite, Wonderful Views, Bedroom Ensuite, Wet Room Downstairs With WC

Le Haut Souchet Gite is 10 minutes from St Sever, which is great for quick shopping with a good range of local produce. Vire is the main town, about 20 minutes drive, with all the big supermarkets and a wide variety of shops, a bowling alley and squash courts, indoor swimming pool with sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room, and lots of bars and restaurants. Near Vire is a 18 hole golf course with a great clubhouse where you can lunch on the outdoor patio overlooking Lac Dathee. The local bar and epicerie is in Champ de Boult a 3 minute drive or 30 minute walk where you can buy fresh bread groceries and enjoy a drink with the French and English locals. Beautiful sand-dune beaches are only 45 minutes drive away and Granville is a great fishing seaside town with a wide variety of fish restaurants where oysters and moule and frites are a specialty. You can watch the local fishermen harvesting the mussels and oysters whilst you sip an aperitif and then enjoy a fresh fish supper. Le Mont St Michelle is one of the most visited islands full of history with a magnificent cathedral, shops and restaurants to while a day away. Other historical towns like St Malo, Fougeres, Nantes, Rennes and Falaise provide a splendid day out. Visit the Bayeaux Tapestry or the D Day landing beaches or even take a day trip to Jersey or Paris. Nearby lakes for fishing, zoo, canoeing, kayaking and karting. There are lots to do here and a wide variety to suit all tastes and ages.

Lovely, peaceful, comfortable gite

  • 5 of 5

Ray and Sandra were very welcoming and good hosts. They respected our privacy but when we needed information on the area they were very helpful - even giving us tips of where to park in St Malo. The cottage is spotlessly clean and I echo previous reviewers - the bed is certainly very comfortable. It is very peaceful and all you can hear in the garden is birdsong. You need a car to drive to places - there are beautiful beaches in about a 45 minute drive but most things we wanted to see took about an hour. There are lots of lovely French markets and places to visit locally.

We would highly recommend this gite.

Great accommodation whatever the weather!

  • 5 of 5

This property was nicely furnished and well equipped with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on in any place (and there have been many) we have stayed. Changeable weather meant that we had to spend quite a bit of time indoors but the gite is well suited for any weather. Although Sandra and Ray were away during our stay we were well looked after by their friends who were extremely kind and helpful when my husband had to visit a doctor.

We felt we had excellent value for money and would be happy to return.

Superb retreat

  • 5 of 5

Friendly welcome from Ray and Sandra - very well presented comfortable accommodation. Wonderful views, in delightful area for access to local interesting villages and further afield Bayeux and beaches. Good restaurants, also for walking and cycling. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect little hideaway....idyllic

  • 5 of 5

Wanted hideaway but also within easy reach of attractions .. this nailed it 100%

A home from home with ALL mod cons, a great bed and immaculate internally.

Add in excellent fast Wi-Fi and extensive library of books, DVDs and videos and beautiful outlook and we were reluctant to venture out some days.

Owners next door yet invisible and there if required... we will go back!!

Great little gite

  • 5 of 5

Had a week here at the end of April. Weather wasn't the best but the gite was very comfortable and cosy. Ray and Sandra were great hosts and we had a great time although the wifi died on our second day over the local area. Rural location with great views. Highly recommended

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind comments of the comfort and quality of the Gite. Unfortunately due to local work on the telephone lines being upgraded in the area to fibre optics thus giving a superb internet system in the future, it was unfortunate that this happened during your visit and was out of our control do hope to see you in the future.
