About David & Emily MacSporran

We have lived in Edzell for the last 15 years. I recently retired from the Builders Merchanting Industry and now spend my time golfing, walking, gardening, diy and being a member of the Community Council.

Emily is a retired accountant and she also enjoys the country pursuits.

We both take an active interest in the village and the surrounding countryside and glens.

David & Emily MacSporran purchased this apartment in 2013

Why David & Emily MacSporran chose Edzell

It is not often that properties come on the market for sale in Edzell. When Edgemuir, 97 High Street and the apartment above it did come onto the market at the same time we thought this was a great opportunity to invest in one of the original houses that was build around 1860.

Edgemuir was in dire need of repair and we took time and care renovating it to a high standard. The property now offers very comfortable and freindly accommodation and has been awarded Scottish Tourist Board 4 star rating.

Immaculate, cosy, well equipped, tastefully decorated, very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This is a well positioned, comfortable, cosy flat - ideal for a couple. On the Main Street of Edzell, it has very handy street parking right outside the door. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bathroom has plenty of hooks and shelves for everyone’s bits and bobs. There is a great supply of towels and lots of hooks for hanging coats and jackets and mats for dumping muddy boots. Very comfortable bed in main bedroom with ample

space for storing clothes. Good lighting and tastefully decorated.

Lots of great walking in the area - everything from a stroll by the river to a major trek up a glen. Various shops and coffee shops on the High Street, including a chemist and a post office (which seems to sell everything!). We loved Edzell and the surrounding area and will definitely visit again.

With a dual carriageway only a few minutes drive away, you can also be in Dundee within 45 minutes.

Many thanks once again to Emily and David Macsporran for a very successful visit!

Lovely house

  • 5 of 5

We were up in Edzell for a wedding and picked this property initially for its location near the church and opposite the reception venue. The property was just perfect for our requirements and was very clean and tidy, if perhaps slightly compact !! Not much space to move around in the bedrooms when it came to getting ready for the wedding (but maybe we're just lucky back home). We sometimes have family get together in Edzell and this property will certainly be on the shortlist for possible accommodation. Really liked it!!

Excellent base for hiking in the Angus glens

  • 5 of 5

The stay in Edzell was excellent. The property was an ideal base with excellent facilities and very clean. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival. The location is really good being a short drive from Glen Esk and Glen Clova as well as a short drive from the impressive Angus coast. Hope to visit again in the future.

Excellent flat..thoroughly recommend it!

  • 5 of 5

Emily was lovely and very welcoming! Very clean and comfortable flat. Every aspect of the flat is immaculate and superbly presented. We went for some lovely walks in the park opposite and also very pleasant river walks nearby. Weather was very kind to us so we decided to go to the Cairngorm National Park.....beautiful scenery, thoroughly recommend! Would not hesitate to book again.

Thank you Emily

Great property and great base to explore

  • 5 of 5

The flat was very comfortable and clean. It had absolutely everything we needed, even for our 2 year old who loved the Peppa Pig crockery! Emily and David's messages were very friendly and informative. Edzell was beautiful as it was autumn and our little one loved the nearby park. Very friendly locals too. We enjoyed our stay in Edzell and would recommend the flat highly.

Very conducive to relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Just a short stay but we were met by Emily who showed us around her very nice apartment. Very new looking, clean and comfortable. Local area has interesting locations such as the Castle, the LindsayVault and walks along the Esk. Hovever, this last was overgrown and parts of the path on the Aberdeenshire side are seriously eroded making it difficult walking.

Everything about Edzell appeals. The people are friendly and open. There also is a very good butcher.

We hope to return in the future, family permitting.

Our thanks to David and Emily.

Allan & Marjorie.

Owner's Response: Dear Allan and Marjorie Many thanks for the nice review. Edzell is indeed great for country walks and local history. At the next meeting of the Inveresk Community Council I will bring up the topic of the condition of the path along the riverside. Some damage and erosion did occur during the storm last winter but that does not explain the issue of the over growth vegetation. I am sure that this is something that can be improved upon. Thank you for highlighting this. Kind regards Emily
