The cottage offers quality, warmth and luxury accommodation for 2 people. Upon entering the property via solid slate steps to the beautiful bespoke solid oak door you are welcomed to an open plan lounge which is naturally lit by the large bay window. A beautifully lit staircase leads you up to the balcony bedroom via the thick luxury pile carpet. Downstairs takes you to a solid oak kitchen with all the facilities you’d expect and an amazing bathroom with under floor heating and bespoke walnut furniture where you set the temperature for the shower before you step in!

About Michael Ellis

We are Ron and Val

I have lived in Windermere all my life and Val, my wife is just about local, moving here when she was a teenager!

We ran a local florist business in the village for about 30 years and now I spend most of my time, either in the garden or fulfilling my role as of Chairman for the Heathwaite Junior Football Club and member of the Taverners Cricket Club. Val is very happy to be retired!

Why Michael Ellis chose England

We bought the house in 1981 as both Val and me fell in love with it. The house is beautiful Lakeland slate with a large bay window letting in loads of light to the front room. The garden was huge and covered in a mass of rhododendron buses, flower beds and trees. In the grounds was an out building, again in Lakeland stone and a large bay window, which much later became The Floss.

The house is so quiet and private even though being right in the heart of Windermere with easy access to the village or a short walk to the Lake.

The house was a great place to bring up our children, is enjoyed by the grandchildren and Flossy the family dog loved playing out in the garden all her life. Our daughters dog Scarlett spends plenty of time in it too chasing her much loved ball!

What makes this cottage unique

The benefits of staying here are vast. The gardens have become even more spectacular over the last few years, ever since retiring I enjoy many an hour digging, weeding and planting in all weathers!

The amount of land surrounding the house and cottage is fantastic. There are very few houses like ours in the village which have the benefit of being so central and having the space and peace away from it all.

The slate seating area adjacent to the cottage is a great vantage point for enjoying the garden, reading a good book or chatting with friends and family. It is also the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or a Pims in the summer sun (weather permitting, it is the Lake District!)

Notes on accommodation: The Floss is available for shorter breaks, outside of the peak season and Christmas or New Year. Please email any requests. The minimum stay is 3 nights and the cost varies according to the time of year. Outside: Outside solid grey Lakeland slate seating area, rattan chairs, glass topped table, canvas umbrella. Surrounded by a low wall with bedding plants and outside lighting. Utility Room: Washing machine stored behind a concealed cupboard under the stairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided. Property is cleaned every Saturday.

Superb place to stay in Windermere

We've just returned from a week in the Floss Cottage. It was our first visit to Windermere and the cottage wasn't our first choice place to stay, we only stumbled across it after struggling to book other places. If I return to Windermere, the Floss Cottage will be the first place I try.

The cottage is beautiful and everything feels good quality, from the lovely comfy bed to the quality kitchen and beautiful bathroom. It's a perfect place for couples to relax after a long day out exploring.

The location is great, just a 15 minute walk down the hill into Bowness and your right on the lake. Windermere village is just 5 minutes in the opposite direction, there's lots of shops and restaurants in both places. There's also plenty of supermarkets nearby if you don't want to eat out every night.

If you're looking to stay around Windermere/Bowness I really can't recommend this place highly enough.

What a little 5* GEM.....!!!!!

We have just returned from our second Christmas stay running, at this gorgeous cottage! The cottage has everything to ensure a perfect break for two, so immaculate, cosy & relaxing. The location is fab for getting around, without having to ever get in the car! We cannot fault a thing, and Ron & Val are so welcoming and helpful. Michael is also a joy to deal with, throughout the booking process! We will be returning to "The Floss" again very soon!!

A little gem!

The Floss is a luxury, modern, cosy cottage conveniently located between Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere (both within walking distance). We had such a wonderful and relaxing stay and everything was just perfect; from the disco lights in the shower to the home made cakes upon arrival. Thank you for the most amazing weekend.

The best couples holiday cottage holiday

As soon as we arrived we were given a very warm welcome. We've stayed in 5 star hotels before but this place tops them. Our favorite holidays are self catering cottage holidays. This one is going to the top of the list. Being foodies it was a lovely surprise to find a fully fitted kitchen with good quality pots, pans, knives etc. A lovely clean relaxing get away. Val & Ron are such welcoming and warm hosts. It really makes a difference to a holiday. Val's cakes were amazing. Prior to our holiday, our communication with Michael (their son) was prompt and polite and we felt like we were in safe hands. We will be highly recommending and also coming back. We don't normally stay in the same place twice but will be coming back for sure.

amazing cottage

The cottage def had the wow factor it was gorgeous , spotless and cal and Ron couldn't be any more helpful and kind , the cakes she made were amazing loved every min of being there and would def stay again and recommend it to anyone .

wonderful week in Windermere

The day we arrived Ron was working in the garden, and he was in the garden every chance he could get for the following week. The gardens are lovely.The cottage is very well cared for and very clean.Windermere is very close and has many places to eat.Try the Queens Monday to Thursday 2 sirloin steaks and a bottle of wine £28.50. Most places are easily accessable from the nearby bus station A relaxing week and I recommend this cottage.
