About anne parker

We first visited The Lake District separately as children. Many years later on Honeymoon in the Lakes we made a promise to ourselves to own our own cottage before our 25th Anniversary. We kept our promise and purchased The Retreat just in time for our 25th Anniversary.

After much thought, effort, love and money we have now renovated the 150 year old former cattle shed into a luxury holiday retreat for ourselves and guests to enjoy.

anne parker purchased this cottage in 2013

Why anne parker chose Windermere & Central Lakes

It was love at first sight when we saw the cottage. From the quirky upside down layout to the beautiful tranquil setting. We knew instantly it was the one for us. We have spent much time love and money transforming the cottage to what we now feel is the perfect retreat for ourselves and our guests. Each season at The Retreat is magical from crisp cold days snuggled in by the log burner to summer evenings spent in the garden watching the sun set over Claiffe Heights. Enjoy a summer evening barbeque in the courtyard garden furninshed with a local slate bench and good quality table and chairs.

What makes this cottage unique

We have lovingly renovated the cottage, working closely with local tradesmen to ensures it's Lakeland character was retained but also add that extra touch to give the Retreat it's uniqueness and special feel.

A gem tucked away in a quite part of Bowness with great access to the town and the nearby fells.

We spent a wonderful few days in this lovely cottage with our 4 year old granddaughter. We were greeted by cake, fresh flowers and milk in the fridge on our arrival which were much appreciated. 'The Retreat' is very comfortable, stylishly furnished and is equipped with everything you could possibly need for your holiday. The 'upside down' layout of the cottage works very well; the open plan living/dining area is great for relaxing in and the tasteful kitchen is perfect for preparing meals whilst chatting to everybody! The 2 bedrooms downstairs are very comfortable and furnished well with lovely decor.

The roof lights in the cottage allow you to see a wonderful view of Lake Windermere in the distance as does the little garden, which is a lovely place to sit and is very popular with numerous wild birds. Our granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed her first stay in the Lake District, especially our trip to see Beatrix Potter's house at Hill Top and also 'The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction' in the town. We enjoyed leisurely walks down the hill into Bowness to browse around the shops and a couple of treks up Brantfell to enjoy the spectacular views at the top.

The cottage is a great base to tour around the lakes or to enjoy the many attractions on its doorstep. Our granddaughter wants to stay again at 'The Retreat' and I'm sure it won't be long before we are back! Thanks Anne and Robert for your friendly and efficient handling of our booking for your beautiful cottage.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your great comments. We love reading them and it's always nice to read young children have had a wonderful time exploring the fells behind the cottage and the many other attractions in the vicinity. Bowness is such a great place to explore the outdoors whilst having the facilities and local attractions close by. It's great to hear the cottage made your stay special. We believe tIme away is very precious and hope our little cottage tucked away on the edge of Bowness makes the time a little more special for our guests. We look forward to welcoming you and your granddaughter back.

Incredible stay with great attention to detail!

  • 5 of 5

We spent Easter at the cottage and had a wonderful time. The log burner was lovely to come back to after exploring the beautiful Lakes, the location was perfect and everything we could have wished for was provided. We even managed to cook a full roast dinner on Easter Sunday! Our four year old son loved having the open space to play in and Anne kindly explained that there was an alternative route up to the cottage via a playground which we really appreciated. Lots of handy information about local events and sights was provided and we felt a week was nowhere near enough to see everything we wanted to. We hope to come back!

We stayed for 11 nights and didn't want to leave. The Cottage is in a superb location just a short walk from Bowness but with the fells just out of the back door. Would def recommend.

The perfect place for a lakes getaway

  • 5 of 5

Immaculate and cosy cottage in a stunning location. Our second stay here and no doubt we'll be back. Very relaxing chilling in the lounge looking out over the Dales way. Wine and cake on arrival is a lovely touch too. Nothing we would change.

Owner's Response: It's always a pleasure to welcome guests back for another stay. The cake and flowers are our welcoming touch for all, the wine is a thank you for returning. It's good to have a nice drink whilst looking up towards the Dales Way from the sofa, or out over the lake to Claiffe Hieghts from the garden. Thanks for your lovely comments, we look forward to welcoming you back.

Wonderfully relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cottage. Feels secluded and private but with very easy access to Bowness and the south lakes. It was a perfect place to get away from it all. The cottage is very tastefully decorated, with extremely cosy lounge and log burner, modern kitchen with everything you could need and comfy bed in a lovely dark bedroom. The garden with views of lake windemere would be ideal in warmer weather. Would highly recommend!

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your nice comments. It's nice to read you enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the location, whilst also benefiting from the amenities in the village, a short stroll down the hill. We have plans for the garden and hope to start our project soon, building a raised decking area. We hope you will return in the summer to enjoy the garden more.
