About anne parker

We first visited The Lake District separately as children. Many years later on Honeymoon in the Lakes, we made a promise to ourselves to own our own cottage before our 25th Anniversary. We kept our promise and purchased The Retreat just in time for our 25th Anniversary.

After much thought, effort, love and money we have now renovated the 150 year old former cattle shed into a luxury holiday retreat for ourselves and guests to enjoy.

anne parker purchased this cottage in 2013

Why anne parker chose Bowness-on-Windermere

It was love at first sight when we saw the cottage. From the quirky upside down layout to the beautiful tranquil setting. We knew instantly it was the one for us. We have spent much time love and money transforming the cottage to what we now feel is the perfect retreat for ourselves and our guests. Each season at The Retreat is magical from crisp cold days snuggled in by the log burner to summer evenings spent in the garden watching the sun set over Claiffe Heights. Enjoy a summer evening barbeque in the courtyard garden furninshed with a local slate bench and good quality table and chairs.

What makes this cottage unique

We have lovingly renovated the cottage, working closely with local tradesmen to ensure it's Lakeland character was retained. We took the opportunity to add extra features to give the Retreat it's uniqueness and special feel.

New for summer 2017 - A raised deck to the side garden allows our guests to enjoy views over the lake.

Beautiful cottage in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location of this cottage. Stunning views from the garden and only a short walk from the bustling village. We visit Bowness 2 or 3 times a year but have always stayed in guest houses. It was lovely to have the freedom the cottage gave. It's very well equipped for self catering. Beautiful decor and you can tell there's been no expense spared. Everything is top quality. There are two little deer that hang around under the big tree behind the cottage. They are very shy but we saw them twice! We would love to visit the cottage again and I will be recommending it to friends and family.

Owner's Response: It’s always nice to hear our guests have had a great stay. Thank you for your lovely comments, it’s important to us that everything is in place for you to relax and enjoy your time away. We work hard to maintain the cottage to a high standard and are pleased to hear you appreciate our efforts. We too love to see the deer in the field and it’s great you saw them too, unfortunately they don’t often they show themselves as the cows are in the field and they choose to stay away. Thanks for your nice feedback.

Lovely cottage, good location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in a good location and is very well appointed and comfortable.

It's a short walk into Bowness or if you want to drive it's not far from many of the other lovely towns and lakes in this area. There's milk in the fridge when you arrive, cake and fresh flowers in the window.

Charming well eqipped cottage ideally situated for exploring Windemere and the Lake District

  • 5 of 5

This was the ideal place to stay for our long weekend of discovering the Lake district and engaging in plenty of walking and rambling. The cottage comprised two levels, ideal for removing our walking garb without compromising the fine, well equipped living area, with all its amenities. The large external balcony provided outdoor relaxation together with fine views of Lake Windemere. The charming town of Bowness was a mere walk away. A cottage to be recommended

Beautiful, quaint cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our pre-Christmas stay here. Bowness is a lovely village and it’s just a 5 minute walk from the cottage. It was perfect for our needs (a family of four!) in every way and I would definitely like to stay again. Top marks!!!!
