Cottage in Bowness on Windermere, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Peacefully Located On The Outskirts Of Bowness

Recently refurbished to a high standard. A quaint detached upside down 2 bedroom Lakeland cottage. Peacefully located at the end of the Dalesway trail away from the hustle and bustle yet only a short stroll to the centre of Bowness and the lake. The cottage is presented to a very high standard with touches of designer inspired features, yet retains much character including beamed ceilings. There is a private garden to the side with views of the lake. Pleasantly situated adjacent to open fields and Brant Fell with plenty of walks from the door The Retreat is an ideal base to explore the Lake District.

Due to the decor and layout of the property the Retreat operates a strict No Smoking No pets policy.

The property comprises:

Lounge area with wood burning stove, contemporary leather settee and barcelona style chair, high quality soft furnishings and lighting, feature floor to ceiling picture window with views over Brantfell, exposed beams and Kardean flooring, television and blue tooth music system.

Open plan kitchen diner with hand painted bespoke kitchen units and stone work-surfaces. Built in German appliances including, washer dryer, fridge dishwasher, oven and hob. Feature roof lights enhance the airy and light living area.

Contemporary glass and stainless steel staircase lead to the downstairs bathroom and two bedrooms.

Well appointed bathroom, with contemporary sink unit with slate work-surface, feature slate wall, extra wide bath with thermostatic shower over, heated tall towel rail and radiator.

Double bedroom with king size bed, high quality linens and soft furnishing, wardrobe, bedside cabinets, lamps , dressing table and chair.

Twin room with high quality linens and soft furnishings, wardrobe and bedside cabinet with lamp.

Private off street parking is accessed via a single track drive (no turning point). However access is suitable for large car. Separate large unloading area.

About anne parker

We first visited The Lake District separately as children. Many years later on Honeymoon in the Lakes we made a promise to ourselves to own our own cottage before our 25th Anniversary. We kept our promise and purchased The Retreat just in time for our 25th Anniversary.

After much thought, effort, love and money we have now renovated the 150 year old former cattle shed into a luxury holiday retreat for ourselves and guests to enjoy.

Why anne parker chose Windermere & Central Lakes

It was love at first sight when we saw the cottage. From the quirky upside down layout to the beautiful tranquil setting. We knew instantly it was the one for us. We have spent much time love and money transforming the cottage to what we now feel is the perfect retreat for ourselves and our guests. Each season at The Retreat is magical from crisp cold days snuggled in by the log burner to summer evenings spent in the garden watching the sun set over Claiffe Heights. Enjoy a summer evening barbeque in the courtyard garden furninshed with a local slate bench and good quality table and chairs.

What makes this cottage unique

We have lovingly renovated the cottage, working closely with local tradesmen to ensures it's Lakeland character was retained but also add that extra touch to give the Retreat it's uniqueness and special feel.

Excellent cottage. Lovely and homely.

We stayed for 11 nights and didn't want to leave. The Cottage is in a superb location just a short walk from Bowness but with the fells just out of the back door. Would def recommend.

The perfect place for a lakes getaway

Immaculate and cosy cottage in a stunning location. Our second stay here and no doubt we'll be back. Very relaxing chilling in the lounge looking out over the Dales way. Wine and cake on arrival is a lovely touch too. Nothing we would change.

Wonderfully relaxing

This is a beautiful cottage. Feels secluded and private but with very easy access to Bowness and the south lakes. It was a perfect place to get away from it all. The cottage is very tastefully decorated, with extremely cosy lounge and log burner, modern kitchen with everything you could need and comfy bed in a lovely dark bedroom. The garden with views of lake windemere would be ideal in warmer weather. Would highly recommend!

Gorgeous cottage in fabulous location

My family have just returned from a fabulous week at The Retreat. The cottage is beautiful, located right at the top of a hill in Bowness overlooking the lovely lake. It is equipped to a high standard and the log burner was a real treat. However, the weather was very kind to us so only needed to light it once to experience a real fire for ourselves!

We walked miles around Grasmere, Rydal, Elterwater, Blea Tarn the Langdales and Grizedale Forest. The children loved the Treetop Trek at Brockhole too.The scenic autumnal colours we encountered, were simply stunning. After a full days walking, it was great to return the car to The Retreat and meander down into Bowness for dinner. We enjoyed tapas at Bodega, an Italian at Villa Positano and traditional at The Angel Inn - all worth a visit. A great, sunny week - we would highly recommend.

Amazing property and views

The property was amazing we loved the views the fire place it keeps the house amazingly hot the only thing that is missing is WiFi but it's not a big problem

To secure your break a £100 non refundable deposit is required at the time of booking. The balance is payable 4 weeks prior to your stay and will include a refundable £100 damage / key deposit.


Changeover Day:
Change over day is a Saturday (unless by prior arrangement).The retreat will be available to occupy from 3pm on the day you arrive and we request it is vacated by 10.00 am on the day of departure.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds. Short breaks with departure days of Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Wednesday are available at certain times of the year and are available for a MINIMUM OF 3 NIGHTS. Please enquire for availability.
