Booking Highcliff View was an inspired choice! My partner and I had been looking for a quiet cottage in the countryside, within walking distance of the sea and with all the mod cons.

We chanced upon Highcliff View and were lucky that it was just free for when we wanted it.

The pics looked promising, but we all know how reality often falls short of what is being promised in a brochure, so we set off without too much enthusiasm lest we should be disappointed.

What we found certainly exceeded our expectations. The house is on a little road with hardly any traffic at all. It is surrounded by a lovely criss-cross of fields and from upstairs you can see the sea in the distance. All you can hear are a few cows in the distance and the occasional birdsong. It is really idyllic!

We loved the house - it was good to have enough space to be able to spread out a little, there is a large but comfy sitting room with dining area, but my favourite room is the kitchen breakfast room, which is built as a conservatory. You can sit admiring the beautiful rural views while enjoying your meals - regardless of the weather. Not that we needed to shelter from any bad weather - in fact we were able to have our breakfast out in the garden every morning.

I was really impressed with how clean and well appointed the house was: not only is there plenty of hot water and a really good shower, but there is also a washing machine, dishwasher and - important for me who likes cooking - a good kitchen range, with all you can possibly need in terms of crockery and cooking utensils.

I can warmly recommend this place!

Idyllic Cornish retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent a delightful holiday here, my girlfriend having also enjoyed her visit 2 years earlier.

It's a lovely, spacious semi-detached house, very comfortable, clean and tastefully furnished. The large kitchen is well equipped and extremely light with its adjoining conservatory which looks out over unspoiled countryside.

The lounge was very comfortable with a large screen TV and a good choice of DVDs for evenings.

We used the shop at Higher Crackington with its large range of fresh food and local produce, and ate in Crackington Haven (delicious fresh crab sandwiches) and Boscastle.

We spent our days walking directly from the cottage, exploring the coastal path which is magnificent in both directions, and discovering many hidden valleys.
