Porthledden at Cape Cornwall offers extensive luxury accommodation (154 square metres, 1658 square feet) with stunning seaviews from most rooms and from the private terrace and lawn. The guest accommodation is an entire wing of Porthledden House, a fully restored coastal mansion set on the cliffs at Cape Cornwall with 180 degree ocean views and built by the first chairman of de Beers. The conversion of Porthledden was completed in 2013; local master craftsmen and materials were employed throughout. Cape Cornwall's challenging 18 hole golf course is directly opposite, Cornwall's coast path forms the western boundary and St Just town with plentiful shops is 1 mile. The master suite and the sitting room face west and enjoy breath-taking seaviews of the Cape with the Isles of Scilly on the horizon. The guest wing also enjoys a huge kitchen with dining area and vaulted ceiling. There are an additional 2 double bedrooms and bathroom. Wi-Fi in all rooms.

Cape Cornwall is England's only cape. It is the start of a World Heritage Site which takes in the stunning north Cornwall Coast path; its cliffs, coves, beaches and 19th century tin mining engine houses and other heritage sites. Porthledden sits right above the Cape (100 years ago the Cape was part of the mansion's grounds - it was given to the British Nation by Heinz in the 1980s). On one side of the Cape lies Priest's Cove; a traditional fishing cove with colourful lobster boats pulled up on the slipway from which you can also swim and snorkel.

Neighbouring Porthledden you'll see Cape Cornwall Golf Club - a challenging 18 hole links course with what must be some of the best views from any golf club. Visitors also welcome to make use of the dining facilities and licensed bar.

St Just is a 1 mile (1.6km) drive or walk - there are lovely green footpaths across fields and granite styles. In St Just you'll find everything you need for your stay with 2 food stores (including a very good Co-op which opens late and 7 days a week), 4 pubs (3 serve food), a doctors' surgery and pharmacy, food take-aways (Chinese and Fish & Chips), a bakery famous for Cornish Pasties, 2 butchers, a greengrocer, 2 cafes (one is also a bookshop), an ice-cream parlour, a post-office, 2 art galleries, a hairdresser and 3 churches.

The coast path is a walkers' heaven and each direction will take you to a treasure of sights from the famous Crowns engine houses which cling to the cliff face like a Lord of the Rings scene to Cot Valley and its remarkable smooth Ice-age boulders. Further west (5 miles) you'll find two of Cornwall's finest surf and swimming beaches, Sennen and Gwenver (both with life-guards).

Nature lovers should look out for the abundance of wild flowers, the returning population of Cornish Choughs (regular visitors to the roof and chimneys of Porthledden), Peregrine Falcons, Buzzards, seals and basking sharks.

  • Outside: The guest accommodation at Porthledden occupies the north-west wing of the mansion house. It benefits from a private granite terrace and lawn overlooking the sea. There are terrace tables and chairs for al fresco dining, drinks and just relaxing in the sun with the fabulous ocean views. There is also an all-weather basketball hoop and basketball provided. A BBQ is also provided. At the rear of the guest wing there is a dedicated parking area with 3 parking spaces. Utility Room: The utility room has a washing machine and tumble drier, a Pulleymaid clothes drier, work surface and tall storage cupboard containing beach towels, vacuum, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bath towels and hand towels are provided plus beach towels (stored in utility room cupboard).
