About the property

1 bedroom Apartment in Dysart Kirkcaldy, Fife, Central Scotland, close to beach

There is a spacious living/dining area, with a large dining table that seats 6, and plenty of comfortable seating where you can relax and take in the breath-taking views out to sea. There is a TV with DVD player and selection of DVD's. In the living room there is a 3 seater couch and one chair to sit in and relax.

Off the living room is a well-equipped kitchen with hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and fridge. Within the kitchen you will find all of the essentials that you would need in a kitchen, including tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. A washing machine/dryer is located in a cupboard off the living room.

On the upper floor is a comfortable double bedroom with sloped ceiling and lovely sea views.

The bed can be made up as a superking bed or two singles. (Please confirm which set up you would like). There is also a modern bathroom with toilet, sink and shower on the upper level next to the bedroom.

Freshly-laundered towels and bed-linen are all provided. There is a cot, high chair and camp bed available on request

The apartment sleeps 2 adults or with the campbed 3.

The apartment is accessed via an external stone staircase. There is no lift access.

This is a non-smoking property and we do not allow pets.

There is plenty of parking on the street outside the apartment.

John McDouall Stuart View is an ideal stopping-off point if you are en-route to the Highlands, looking for close links to Fife's world-famous golf courses, or walking the Fife Coastal Path.

John McDouall Stuart was born in this house in 1815 and later emigrated ‘down under’ where he led the first expedition to cross Australia from south to north in 1862. He is a celebrated figure in Australia, where he has a 950-mile highway named after him. The holiday apartment occupies the upper two floors of a three-storey B-listed building. The rooms have been decorated in keeping with the style of the building, retaining period features, such as the window shutters.

Why Beth Bell chose Fife

At Fife Historic Buildings Trust, our focus is restoring historic buildings and giving them a new purpose. When we first restored John McDouall Stuart View, it was originally turened into a John McDouall Stuart Museum ran by Fife Council. The museum was unfortunatley not busy enough to remain open so FHBT took control of the property and converted it into an apartment.

The apartment is nice and peaceful, and Dysart is a lovely place to visit if you just want to relax or if you want to use it as a base whilst you visit various places throughout Scotland.

The beautiful sea views across the Firth and Forth, really make this apartment shine. By staying in this property you will be helping to restore this and other historic properties throughout Fife.

Would definitely stay again!

The property was right next to the ocean and allowed for strolls along the rocky coast at any time. The village itself was rather quaint and nice and only an hour and half from Edinburgh by bus. Fairly easy to get everywhere without a vehicle. Upon our arrival we found a complimentary loaf of bread, some milk, and a bottle of wine to start us off. We also found several binders with information about the property and the surrounding village.

Perfect position and spectacular views. Kitchen well fitted out as we love cooking. Very comfy living area although couch not the best for bad backs. Loved the spaciousness and so clean and welcoming. So looking forward to return visit in 2 weeks

Beautiful apartment with stunning views across the Forth , sunsets and sunrises like paintings. Quiet location and quaint Houses and historical Harbour. Steeped in history. Apartment clean and comfortable. If you are coming in winter bring your thermals and electric blanket. Would highly recommend... Central for transport link to explore Scotland.

The apartment is just a few minutes walk from the beach.

Travel:

Dysart is easily reached by road and is about a 45-minute drive from Edinburgh. Airlines that fly to Edinburgh from other parts of the UK include FlyBe, EasyJet, Ryanair and British Airways. There are several car hire companies at Edinburgh airport. There is plenty of space for parking on the street outside the apartment.

Kirkcaldy railway station is a 10-minute drive away and provides easy access to Edinburgh and the north.

Further Details:

Dysart is a quiet historic village, close to the town of Kirkcaldy. Key scenes in Series 2 of 'Outlander' were filmed at Dysart Harbour. Wander around the harbour, have a coffee and cake in the Harbourmaster's House and see why this pretty seaside spot was picked as the setting for the Jacobite drama that has enthralled millions.

In Dysart there is a small supermarket, pharmacy and coffee shop. A number of high-street shops and supermarkets can be found in Kirkcaldy which is just a few minutes drive away.

Golfers will find plenty to keep them busy! Fife boasts over 45 famous, historic and challenging golf courses. Dysart is about a 40 minute drive from the world-famous home of golf, St Andrews, with its seven courses, including the famous Old Course.

Other courses nearby include Ladybank Golf Club, Lundin Golf Links and Scotscraig Golf Course. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship takes place over three venues - Kingsbarns, the Old Course at St Andrews and Carnoustie in Angus - every October.

The beautiful fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife such as Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans and Elie are easily reached by car, as are the historic towns of Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.

From Kirkcaldy station, which is only a few minutes drive away, there is a frequent train service across the famous Forth Bridge, straight into the heart of Edinburgh. In the capital you can visit the famous Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, Sir Walter Scott's Monument, the Scottish Parliament Buildings, the newly refurbished National Museum of Scotland or in the summer, take in a show at the famous Edinburgh Festival or military Tattoo. There is high-street and designer shopping on Princes Street and George Street, or you can enjoy the many bars, cafes and restaurants before returning by train to put your feet up in your ‘coastal retreat’!
