Algarve Golf Holiday, Feb 2017

My wife and I vacationed in Vale do Lobo from Feb.17 to Mar.2. We stayed at 91 Vale do Lobo and thoroughly enjoyed it. We loved the location and the unit was perfect for the two of us. It is quiet around Vale do Lobo at that time of year but that suited us just fine. The weather was perfect for golf: warm enough for shorts on half the days but still really pleasant on the cooler days when pants and long sleeves were needed. The Vale do Lobo golf courses were really interesting and in excellent condition. We also played the three courses at Quinto do Lago and they were superb (but a bit more expensive than Vale do Lobo). We also played Oceanico Millenium in Vilamoura and by comparision with Vale do Lobo, Millenium was not particularly interesting and overpriced.

We booked the Vale do Lobo golf rounds through the general booking site. In Feb, the green fees were only 56 euros at twilight (>1:30 pm), 85 euros otherwise. This was better than purchasing the resort card to get the 40% discount from green fee rack rate. The courses are hilly but still walkable. Power cards are stupidly expensive IMO and their pull carts are sadly outdated so I carried my clubs for all 9 rounds we played. I haven't carried clubs for 30 years and it was surprisingly OK.

Outside of golf, we didn't use the resort facilities as they are really expensive. We may have used the health club gym a bit if it were more reasonably priced. There was a high end tennis tournament at the Tennis centre with aspiring ATP players competing and spectating was free. The VDL car hire that is on-sire is now renting bikes and their prices are very reasonable ... only 5 euros/day and even cheaper if you rent for several days. I rented a brand new mountain bike one day and road all the way to Faro and back along some nice bike trails in Quinto do Lago (the Sao Lorenco trail I recall). It was quite a workout due to the hills in the area.

Apart from the first day, we always ate off site and found some great restaurants (having a car enabled us to do that). In particular, we really liked Maria's in Quinto do Lago, and La Cabane and Os Agostinos in Quarteria. The two in Quateria are more authentic local style restaurants with very reasonable prices. The restaurants in Vale do Lobo and Quinto do Lago are more geared to tourists and have inflated prices.

My wife and I both agree that we would go back to Vale do Lobo again.

Lovely property. Very clean and comfortable.

The property is a great size and layout. It has all the equipment you need if you eat in. The property was very clean. The beds were very comfy. More could have been made of the roof terrace and more comfy sun beds would have been helpful. As we arrived late in the day and the only supermarket is some distance away, we would have appreciated a few basic provisions being in the property ready for our arrival. We had to ask one of the bar owners if we could buy some milk off him. Also a few dishwasher tablets would have been appreciated. All in all a nice property but disappointed it was in a very 'busy' position and had no view at all. Also disappointed that several of the restaurants were shut even though it was only October. The area was very quiet with little atmosphere.

Stunning property in a beautiful location

When we arrived the location was superb with lush green golf courses and well planted areas. There was a variety of restaurants about a 5 minute walk from the property and we found the food there to be excellent. The villa was well situated and benefitted from the sun at the front in the morning. Parking was about 20 metres away which is handy. The villa had everything you would need for your stay and was spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable. Lagos is about an hours drive away and the coastline there is stunning. Seville is easily driveable too. Dan responded to any questions in under 30 minutes. We wish we could have stayed longer and we would definitely stay there again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

the townhouse was a lovely property, clean with everything we needed.

We have been visiting Vale do Lobo for nearly 18 years and renting somewhere the last 6 years. This has been the best place we have stayed in. The property was comfortable, clean and a fabulous location. The air conditioning was fantastic and much needed, wifi a must with teenagers and the decor was lovely. We were sad to leave and will definitely rebook. Thank you.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The beautiful beaches of Vale do Lobo are just a 4 minute stroll away.

Travel:

Faro International Airport is 20 minutes away. Car hire is recommended although local taxis and bus services are good. Being club members guests can buy a Welcome Card which gives them free use of the resorts 24hrs bus service plus much more.

Distances:

Almancil and Loule are a short drive away as is Vilamoura while Albufeira can be reached in approx half an hour.

Further Details:

Vale do Lobo is one of Europe’s premier resorts. It provides a superb variety of services with fine shopping, excellent restaurants offering local and international cuisine, together with a range of sporting activities which the whole family can enjoy.

The Tennis Academy offers coaching. Courts can be booked for private play.

There are several waterparks within easy driving distance. Other watersports facilities can be found at the beach or at Quinta da Lago lake.

There is a family medical centre and a supermarket at the entrance to Vale do Lobo. There is a bank and cash point at Vale do Lobo reception. More shopping is available at nearby Almancil and Loule.
