Mas Tuillerie- is the perfect location to explore this beautiful part of France whether it be by car, cycling or walking. The house is situated on the edge of an unspoilt traditional French village with all the local amenities. The region is full of undiscovered villages - Elne, Port Vendre and of course the historic towns of Coulioure, Castlenou and Perpignan are worth a visit.

The amazing rock formations at Orgues of Ille Sur Tet are something not to be missed.

If you prefer some action the local Lake at Plan d'eau is where you can zip line or teleski.

There are plenty of local walks where you can take a picnic and enjoy the peaceful surroundings in the hills with running streams and wildlife.Or you can pop over into Spain a and enjoy the many walks into the hills recommended on Anglo Phone Direct. If cycling is your sport there are many cycle paths near to the house.

There is a great choice of beaches to visit Argeles boasts 15 kilometres of sand. Racou beach is a favourite with families .

The Spanish border is 15 minutes away with fabulous golf courses, mountain topped restaurants for that delicious Sunday lunch of Entrecote steak and chips.

Mas Tuillerie is perfect for intimate get a ways or a family retreat with a taste of local living and a hint of luxury. Comfortable beds, good quality appliances and modern comfortable furniture. Reliable and fast Wi Fi connection for those of you who like to bring your computer - you can also stream films or bring your fire stick to watch Netflix . The advantage of a stone house is that it is wonderfully cool during those hot summer months. Traditional shutters keep the house cool with the addition of electric fans in all rooms should you want that extra breeze.

On the ground floor there is a spacious open plan living area. It boasts a wonderful log fire, a large seating area and large oak table . The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge freezer, gas hob and Electric cooker, dishwasher etc. There is a separate WC downstairs. Upstairs there are three spacious, bright airy bedrooms, a king room, double room and a twin bed room. The main bedroom has views of the pyrennes.

The garden area is south facing with views of the mountains. The new decking area is perfect to unwind and relax. Whether that be sipping a glass of chilled wine , reading a book or sunbathing on one of the sun loungers. It is the ideal place to sit and eat breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Mas Tuillerie is set in the perfect location- just a five minute walk into the village of Saint Andre where you will find all the amenities you should need; a fabulous Patisserie which bakes its own bread and pastries, a butcher , a fruiterer, which sells locally grown vegetables and fruit. There is a traditional local restaurant in the middle of Saint Andre. During the summer months Saint Andre hosts several Fetes and Festivals and has plays shown in their open air theatre. Mas Tuillerie is only a ten minute drive to the local beach at Argeles which boasts seven kilometres of sandy beach! It is also the ideal base to explore historic sights such as Carcassone, Cathor Castles and Perpignan. The spanish border is only 15 minutes drive away. Barcelona and the Pyrennes ski resorts are only one and a half hours drive away.

Perpignan airport is 20 minutes by car. Gerona airport is 20 minutes by car. Barcelona airport is 1 hour and 20 minutes by car.

It is also the ideal base over Christmas to visit the local Christmas markets and enjoy the warm sunshine.

She has a wealth of information having lived in France for over 10 years and can speak fluent French. Both Angie and Claire will ensure that you have the perfect holiday.

I live in the UK with my husband and three children. We love France and spent our honeymoon in The Ardeche, Auverne and Dordogne. Over the years we have spent many holidays enjoying France and the French cuisine.

Why Claire Norfolk chose Alberes

Our goal was to buy a place in the south of France and after visiting Argeles a couple of years ago we discovered what a great area it is. Close to the Spanish border, the Pyrennees where we can go skiing in the winter, and beaches within a ten minute drive.

We found our house in Saint Andre in September 2012. What we loved about the house was the traditional style with olive green shutters. It was sunny, bright and spacious.It was set in a quiet courtyard which was important for us where we can sit outside on a warm balmy evening and enjoy a glass of wine .

What makes this house unique

The property is close to all the local amenities.We loved the fact that you can walk into the village in the morning to buy your croissants and baguettes.

There is a traditional restaurant in the village for those evenings where you don't feel like cooking. It also has a takeaway pizzeria where pizzas are baked in a stone baked oven.

Plenty of choice of local restaurants serving traditional French food.

You can either eat out at the local port of Argeles or visit Collioure which is famous for it's anchovies and sea food.

There are many festivals and Fetes during the summer months. The times these are held can be found at the local tourist information office.

Notes on accommodation: Two brand new bikes available to use whilst you are staying at Mas Tuillerie. Outside: Quiet,secluded south facing courtyard for relaxing . A BBQ is provided. A new decking area has recently been laid where you can relax and read, have a BBQ's with meat bought at the local butcher in Saint Andre or fish bought at the local markets. Mas Tuillerie has two sun loungers with cushions, two comfotable deck chairs and out door table and chairs that seat 6 for eating Al fresco. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is professionally cleaned before each guest arrives . The property is expected to be left in the same clean state as found upon arrival. Linen and towels are included in the price. ( Not beach towels)

The property matched the description provided and was a good base from which to explore the local area. It is well located for access to some beautiful beaches, the Pyrenees and the historic town of Carcassonne. The owner was helpful and provided good customer service.

Clean, tidy, well-equipped house in good location

The house was exactly as described on the website. It was spotlessly clean on our arrival. The manager was able to come to our aid straight away when we had an issue accessing the property and the owner was very attentive in making our stay as pleasant and interesting as possible.

Saint Andre is a good location, with village amenities but also close to several supermarkets. We found the coast very busy, but hardly surprising given it was peak season. We liked the beach at Plage de la Marenda, which had a big car park, toilets, showers, a cafe and place to rent pedalos, as well as reasonable sand for sandcastles. We also liked the lakes at St Joan Pla de Cortes, where you could also rent pedalos and there was a tele ski, an overhead contraption which towed around water skiers.

It was quite easy to get into the hills and there are some great walks within easy reach. We loved one from Le Perthus which was right on the border with Spain, and took in both Roman ruins and a fort. We bought a walk guide from the Tourist Information Office in Ceret (in French) and also a book from the 'Sentiers d"Emilie' series (also in French), which are aimed at families. We also had the FFRP book for the region (again in French).

In an ideal world, we would have loved air conditioning (although the fans were welcome), and also a bigger fridge with proper freezer.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments. The house is in a great location to explore the Langedoc Rousiilon area. We also have enjoyed many walks that have led to some great restaurants for lunch. I am pleased that Adam made use of one of the bikes and found some great cycle routes. We did find that if we close the shutters during the day that keeps out the heat in the hot summer months and put the fans on at night to remain cool. We will look into buying a larger fridge with a bigger freezer compartment. You were wonderful guests and hope you return again. Claire

Perfect holiday

The house is set in a beautiful part of Languedoc, in the picturesque and unspoilt small town of Saint-André. The house itself is very comfortable and well-equipped, including fans everywhere to keep you cool. It is very quiet at night, and the beds were wonderfully comfortable.

There are lots of interesting locations and sights nearby, including a never-ending array of towns and villages with interesting history. Perpignan and Collioure are big-ticket destinations, but smaller places like Elne or Laroque are equally interesting. Spanish Catalonia is also easy to reach.

I would thoroughly recommend Mas Tuilleries, and Claire Norfolk is the perfect owner, with helpful advice and support.

Perfect base for exploring Languedoc region

A beautiful traditional house on the edge of the village of St Andre, with the beaches of Argeles-sur-mer just 10 mins drive away. Easy access to explore this area of France and even to venture into Spain. Claire has equipped the house with everything you need for a comfortable stay and the village offers a boulangerie, tapas bar, etc. all within walking distance.

Very nice!

We had a wonderful time at Claire's property! This is a charming little stone house which fit our family of four just perfectly. Extremely comfortable beds, a working fireplace, a tub, nice amenities, kind neighbors... As of April 2017, there was no working TV signal, however there is a very stable Wifi connection. Travelers with small children/mobility issues: there is a staircase that is a bit narrow and steep, but Claire does provide a gate for children.

The overall location is very nice. The village is a five minute drive to the beach, a 20 minute drive to the mountains. While everything in St. André is walkable, we did find that dinner options were a little bit limited: the tapas bar was not serving food; the upscale restaurant was closed (permanently? because of pre-season? We were not able to find out); the bar was closed most of the time. However, we did discover a very nice restaurant (Jardin des Simples) in the residential area of the village. With a car, many nice places are within close reach, e.g. in Sorède, in Laroque, and of course in the seaside villages. The boulangerie in St. André is every bit as good as described.

Owner's Response: Dear Theresa, Thank you for your lovely review. My neighbour loves talking in French to my guests! The restaurant in the village and Tapas bar do serve food. I will ask them when I am next there why they were not serving food at Easter time. As you say there are lots of lovely restaurants all within a short drive. I believe that when on holiday you do need a comfortable bed so we bought very good mattresses for the beds and good quality Egyptian cotton sheets and towels. I have provided a stair gate for younger children to make sure that they are safe. I look forward to you staying again. Claire

Everything you needed

On arrival everything was as the description and pictures stated ,and to a very high standard, Claire was very helpful and prompt with any queries we had by phone or email.

As for the location it's perfect,beaches and supermarkets all within a 5 minute drive and a wonderful butchers and bakery within walking distance in the village

We had some wonderful days out in Girona,Perpignan and Toulouse and a trip on the Le Train Jaune is a must .

We spent our lazy days at Plage Nord ,which is a spotless,and had some great meals in Collioure,Banuyl and Ceret (recommend Le francais brasserie in the town square)

And I had wonderful conversations with the lady next door ,with my 20% French and her 0% English ,it was very entertaining for my wife and daughter

The house is just far enough away ,so after a long day it's nice to chill out in the peaceful surroundings .

All in all its a wonderful location to explore this area of France and also a lovely property to just relax in.

When we holiday in this area of France again we will definitely return here

Car: necessary


Fabulous choice of beaches all just a 10- 20 minute drive away; Argeles, which boasts 15 kilometres of sand and has a back drop of the mountains where several beach cafes serve delicious Mediterranean food at very reasonable prices. The beach at Racou is a cycle ride away, has a great beachside café where we regularly go for lunch.

Saint Cyprien and Plage Nord are less crowded beaches and very popular with families during the summer months.
