About this property

Luxury Farmhouse In Wild And Untamed Cambrian Mountains near Brecon Beacons

The house was completely renovated and the adjoining cowshed converted to a luxurious standard using traditional materials in 2010-11. The quality of the conversion has been recognised with it winning the best conversion award in Carmathenshire in 2011. Commensurate with the natural environment, great care has been taken to adopt a sustainable approach to the conversion. The house is heated by a ground source heat pump with underfloor heating throughout. The ground floor had slate flagstones and quarry tiles and the first floor has beautiful oak floor boards. Troedrhiwgelynen is in a spectacular area of countryside – a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Area of Conservation and at the heart of the Gwenffrwd-Dinas RSPB bird reserve. Troedrhiwgelynen is ideally located to explore the wild and remote Cambrian mountains - whether by foot, pony trekking (with two centres nearby) or mountain bikes (the Cwm Rhaeadr trail is spectacular).

Superb
A family group of 8 adults we had a lovely week in Lucy’s house . Plenty of space for 8 adults but no loss of a cosy feel and the house is very well equipped. The location and views are superb . Plenty of local walks to enjoy , and not too far from other attractions and good eateries . We would recommend a tour of the local mines . Although we didn’t meet Lucy she was a great host , communicated well and answering any questions promptly , and had left lots of useful local information in the house to make our holiday more enjoyable . We hope to be back .

The Ultimate Stay in the Welsh Hills
I booked the cottage as the 5 of us enjoy hiking in the moutains and were looking at properties that could accommodate us around the Brecon Beacons. Can't believe how lucky we were to find this farmhouse, none of us have ever stayed anywhere like it, it had everything you could want or need, in an idyllic location. The quality of everything there and the attention to detail, made it feel luxurious, whilst being a home from home. The owner was so super helpful, not only recommending walks and places to visit but was so responsive, couldn't have asked for more. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and if you're looking for somewhere to get away from it all, with amazing walks what ever you ability or just a few days chiiling in a farmhouse that you don't need to leave, you couldn't find anywhere better.

ABOVE EXPECTATIONS!!
What an amazing retreat in Wales. The house looked amazing online but was even more amazing in real life. Clean, neat and beautifully decorated. The welcome basket spoke volumes about the owners and their wanting to ensure we were well looked after. Having those extra condiments like spices and oils also made things so much easier. The fire place was a treat second to none with plenty of wood. We didn't need anything additional as the house is well equipped with everything. And the owners were a delight to deal with and prompt in their responses. The area is beautiful with plenty of beautiful walks. It's remote and hence utterly peaceful. We will definitely be returning!! Thank you!

Just Perfect!
We had the most relaxing, peaceful and enjoyable stay at Lucy’s property. The location of the cottage is perfect for tranquil walks amongst the valleys, visits to local pubs serving delicious food and exploring the local area. The only noise you can hear is the sheep, which we loved! The cottage is modern yet traditional and super clean with everything in it you could possibly need/want! Lucy is the best hostess, providing us with all the information and beyond and very quick at responding to any questions! The kids ageing from 4-15 had a fantastic time and no screens in sight! We made use of the BBQ/ trampoline/ hammock/ table tennis/ open fire/ games…. We will definitely be back again at some point!

Peaceful retreat
We had a fantastic week away with friends. It was so beautiful and peaceful. The kids really enjoyed the play barn and trampoline! Having the different benches around the garden to sit quietly and take in the amazing views was great. The beds were really comfortable. We slept well. The house was well equipped. We would definitely return!

We are 2 doctors living in London and bringing up a family of four. To renovate a historic property like Troedrhiwgelynen requires a passion for beautiful old buildings and a love of an extremely special area.
My husband Michael is a great researcher and has payed a huge amount of detail to authenticity as well as cutting edge technology. We both love the aesthetic and have taken an uncompromising approach to doing the best just once so that the property is set up to endure and stay beautifully simple and luxurious in the longer term.
I am a farmer's daughter brought up not far from Troedrhiwgelynen and have been very touched by the locals' response to the renovation and the return of Troedrhiwgelynen to its former glory.

Why they chose this property

Hidden away in the wild and beautiful Cambrian Mountains Troedrhiwgelynen was an authentic Welsh farmstead, looking a little sad. but handsome none the less with its beautiful stone work and Georgian windows and occupying a commanding position in an extremely beautiful valley.
We bought it at auction from the RSPB and spent 3 years bringing it back to its former glory and on in to the 21st century - a legacy for the future.
I was brought up near Llandovery but my husband is equally passionate about the amazing beauty of the Cambrian Mountains and the Beacons.

What makes this property unique

Troedrhiwgelynen is a magical place to stay. The house has an enduring quality particular to historical dwellings but with luxurious simplicity and top of the range "everything"!
It is accessible all year round, off the beacon track enough to be incredibly peaceful but near to the Heart of wales Line, the Beacons, the market town of Llandovery and an hour from beautiful coastline.
Best of all it is uncrowded. You can take off from your doorstep on a walk or cycle and literally not bump in to a soul. And yet you will be aware of the farmers gathering their sheep, laying their hedges or making hay. It has a real and living quality about it.
There are amazing mountain biking trails, horse trekking, bird watching and walking opportunities - quality family time, fresh air and relaxation.
