Super cottage,perfect location!
Our week spent at Flag Cottage was perfect. The cottage was very clean and very welcoming. The bed sheets smelled really fresh, the beds were comfy too.The bath was a good size to relax in after a long walk and the shower was lovely. We enjoyed using the log burner in the evening. The kitchen was very well equipped and the washing machine was useful. We loved feeding the birds with the bird seed provided, and saw quite a few different species from the kitchen window. The garden was really nice too, with garden furniture,BBQ and lovely fruit trees on the lawn. The owners were very friendly. We would definitely go back.

The perfect place to stay
This was our second visit to Flag Cottage and it was just as we remembered - clean, warm, comfortable and with a very well equipped kitchen. It's in such a beautiful area where we love the walks and on the days when the sun shone we enjoyed tea in the sunny garden.
Lovely dog friendly stay
We had a lovely few days in your great cottage. Dogs too!
Appreciated the small touches that make a real difference and we'll certainly be back in touch if we are looking to stay in the area again.
Brilliant way to start our married life
We stayed at flag cottage for a week straight after our wedding, we took our two labrador dogs with us. We had an absolutely fantastic time and felt very much at home in this charming cottage. It was fantastic that there was an enclosed garden for the dogs and flag cottage spoilt them rotten with all the things they provided. We loved the log burning fire and especially loved all the little touches, like the information packs about the cottage, village and surrounding area, they were really helpful. We can honestly say one of the best cottages we've ever stayed in and we will certainly be back again and recommending to family and friends. We're really pleased we choose Flag Cottage as the place to start our married life.
Another fantastic Stay.
This was our second stay at Flag Cottage, and it was just as good this time round.
The cottage is situated in the beautiful dales village of West Burton with it's large village green, very welcoming pub, village shop and tea room.
The pub, the Fox & Hounds has a great selection of beers and ales, and a really good pub grub menu, including take away pizzas.
The cottage itself is beautifully presented, homely and is extremely well appointed, the kitchen has pretty much every utensil you could ever need.
The cottage has always been extremely clean and in an excellent state of repair when we've visited which is a credit to it's owners.
We have stayed in a few cottages in the dales, and Flag cottage is head and shoulders above. We're already planning our next return trip.
From the Owner
“We bought the cottage in March 2011 and our aim was to make it somewhere we would like to relax and retreat to for a break. There was a fair amount of refurbishment carried out that year and a holiday to decorate ! As a family we inherited a dog 6 years ago so Millie comes with us hence we opened it up for other dogs to stay. We renamed the cottage after the initials of our names Freda, Lorna, Alistair and Graham but poor Millie got missed off. It has become so popular we are not able to visit as much as we like .....”

West Burton, acclaimed by many as one of the most beautiful villages in England, rests snugly in a deep sheltered valley at the junction of Walden Dale, Bishopdale and Wensleydale. Nearby, high fell sides rise steeply to form a spectacular setting to this most picturesque of dales villages, and on climbing these can give unrivalled panoramas of the surrounding dales and distant views of the Vale of York and North York Moors. You can see why the famous vet and author James Herriot was so fond of West Burton.
Walden Beck skirts the village then descends over rocky outcrops in a spectacular waterfall with deep pools and minor cascades through a tree lined gorge to form a natural arena of beauty and relaxation.
In its position away from the main traffic routes, the village still offers traditional rural tranquillity. At its centre is an expansive village green surrounding an ancient market cross and stocks, said to be one of the largest greens in the country.
West Burton is an ideally placed base for exploring the dales and fells whether on foot, bike or by car and also served by a bus route. Visitors are well-provided for locally as the village contains a traditional Dales pub, good-quality family butchers shop, well stocked general store and tearoom. The village can also offer the visitor a browse around an antique shop, gallery and picture framers and the cat pottery.
The immediate area is dotted with footpaths in all directions allowing for excellent walking from the doorstep.
