You can reach the coast in 30 minutes; the countryside all around this area is beautiful with the Thames only 5 minutes away by car. Easy access to outdoor pursuits such as golf, walking, horse-riding, cycling, white water rafting, go-karting, educational farms/parks with crafts. About the Owner
My name is Joan; I am 69 years young. I love meeting people and through letting have met some wonderful couples and families from all over the UK and different parts of the world.
Having taught for over 35 years, I am now semi-retired (teaching part-time) but always busy, being out & about enjoying life, whether it be in Essex or Norfolk.
I have really enjoyed renovating both properties being very proud and pleased with the results. They are both distinctive in their own special ways.
My family live near me and I am very much involved in their lives especially my grandsons. We have enjoyed many wonderful times at Merridays, a beautiful holiday home in Norfolk (Ref. 8068814)
My daughter Vicky helps me with all the 'letting administration & running of the 'Butterfly' and 'Merridays; we personally clean and prepare the properties for our holiday guests to ensure it is completed to the standard we would expect and desire for our holidays - attention to detail is our watch word!.

This was our second stay at the Butterfly House and once again it was absolutely brilliant ! Very clean, everything you need and more ! Close to shops, the coast and countryside....and easy access by road to the tube and London.

The Butterfly is a beautifully kept, spotlessly clean, convenient home with everything you could possibly need for a family or couple to stay comfortably. We had a wonderful time there, if really feels like home from home. Joan is a lovely lady who is always available for advice or help. “As soon as I walked into this house, I felt its warmth and homeliness. Yes, it needed renovating but the house, garden & location were perfect. So I eagerly set about transforming the house and garden into the outstanding property it is today. Also, as I taught in the nearby college,the location was ideal, whilst enabling me fast access to London and the coast to enjoy all the variety that was on my doorstep and on offer all year round. I was able to enjoy all the surrounding history, leisure, sports, theatres, cinema, great shopping besides all the beautiful countryside and coast. I love gardening & wanted to renovate it with masses of plants to attract the bees & butterflies. Butterflies are my passion; hence I renamed the house 'The Butterfly'. When you're in the garden, you feel you're in the middle of the countryside with bird song attracted by the many trees around. I've even had blackbirds nesting this year in the honeysuckle.”

Brilliant shopping at Lakeside Shopping Centre, one of the largest in Europe, just 10 mins away. Theatres, cinemas, restaurants, old English pubs, sports centres, varied outdoor and indoor activities for all ages near and accessible. Easy access to local and Christmas lights and festivities. Special interest holidays like visiting nearby historic places such as Tilbury Fort close to where Queen Elizabeth 1st reviewed her army at the time of the Spanish Amada were blocking the English Channel in the 16th century & many other historical sites & places of interest abound in this area with many links to Queen Elizabeth 1st. Much architecture evidence of Romans, Saxons & Normans with churches & castles.
Lovely country walks, beautiful woodlands, country parks & countryside with historic villages including East & West Tilbury, Bulphan, Orsett, churches, old English pubs & surrounding areas, Horndon-on-the-Hill's woolmarket & famous historic Bell Inn are all within a very short distance but really worth a visit.
You can enjoy great shopping, theatres, cinemas, museums, art galleries, concerts, varied activities such as horse riding, golf, skubba diving, leisure, spa, swimming, gym & sports clubs, tennis, go-kart racing, archery, white water rafting, river/canal trips, rollers skating, ice skating & ten-pin bowling and much more.

On receipt of your non-refundable deposit £150 per week, Joan confirms your booking, (final payment needs to be received within 6 weeks prior to arrival date). A £200 refundable security/damage deposit is required and returned dependant on no damage and the house being left clean and tidy (as you find it); charges for additional cleaning will deducted from this deposit.
All prices quoted are in GB pounds sterling.
Kindly note that your own insurance is needed for cancellations and personal cover.
Changeover days are flexible especially for short & longer stays & at different times of the year. In busy times Friday, not Saturday is preferred.

“The Butterfly is in a quiet cul-de-sac, It's a bright, airy and very comfortable 'home from home' holiday base following its recent renovations & with every convenience. When you're in the back garden, you'd think you were in the heart of the countryside and yet it is so convenient for all your needs and getting to so many places The house is located in the Thames Gateway in Essex and as such benefits from major trunk roads and rail to the countryside, coast and all over England. The location is perfect no matter what you want to do but at the same time being nestled in such a lovely convenient spot. All the necessary amenities are on the door step including shops, supermarkets, doctors, pharmacy, post office, library, Esso garage/Tesco Express, ATM. Frequent local buses are only 1 min. away & fast train to London & coast. Besides 2 local pubs, other lovely old English pubs in the nearby historic villages set amongst the surrounding.countryside. Guests from all over the world, whether business trips, tourists, trips to visit and see family; guests are delighted with their stays and often revisit.”

- Notes on accommodation: The Butterfly is a relaxed, happy & comfortable home from home suiting non-smoking young & not-so-young people. Families are welcome. All you have to bring are yourselves, your luggage & food. Everything else you expect to find in a home will be there for you. This accommodation is let by Joan; the Butterfly is Joan's residence but she will not be staying in the property during your stay, so that you may be assured of having the opportunity to enjoy all that it has to offer in peace & quiet. Having lived in the area all her life, Joan is able to advise you on travel & has a wealth of knowledge about the local and surrounding areas. Joan has welcomed numerous visitors from all over UK and the world with her aim to help make wonderful holiday memories for her guests. A welcome pack greets you on your arrival & includes flowers, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits & fruit. If you have any other requirements or queries, please call and let Joan know. Everything will be done to assist Outside: The recently renovated rear garden comprises a decking area with BBQ, artificial lawn area for relaxing and a raised decked area for the patio table, chairs & umbrella. This pretty garden enjoys sun most of the day, is quiet with trees around encouraging many species of visiting birds, making it a very relaxing spot at the end of a day out, or to enjoy 'al fresco' dining any time of day on a lovely day. Relaxing chairs are available for a taking the weight off your feet with the little bistro table & chairs outside the stable door is an excellent way to start the day with your coffee or tea or finish the day with a glass of wine; the sunsets are beautiful. The raised flower beds are well maintained, packed full of flowers attracting bees and butterflies & all in all make this a wonderful spot to enjoy. The front of thee house has been recently paved to accommodate 3 cars so parking is no problem. Utility Room: Hospitality/utility room has a freezer & an additional fridge. This room is linked to the lounge/dining room & leads out to the newly designed pretty garden/relaxation area. Picnic set, food containers, picnic bag & rug is available for your holiday use. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: House is immaculately prepared for your arrival by Joan, owner/teacher (non-resident during bookings). Ample towels/linens, kitchen basics, paper roll, cleaning materials are supplied for your stay. All is done to maximise your enjoyment/comfort. Other: The welcoming hall has a large 'cloaks cupboard' for outdoor coats etc and could store some sports equipment but there is more room in the utility room for golf clubs etc. Wheel chair or buggy could be stored there when not in use.
