A spacious apartment in a grand Victorian villa: beautifully appointed; close to shops, pubs, restaurants; free parking

The apartment has been completely renovated and furnished to provide a contemporary and practical beach-side base for a family holiday or a short break. There is a huge choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants close by to suit all budgets. We are a 5 minute stroll from Walmer Castle with its beautiful formal gardens. The coast path runs from the front door to Deal town centre and the Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, or south to the beautiful villages of Kingsdown and St Margaret-at-Cliffe, then up over the White Cliffs to Dover and Folkestone. Spacious and practical accommodation with solid oak floors throughout. Elegant (but kid-proof) contemporary furniture. Fully fitted kitchen with walk in larder. The main bathroom has a freestanding Victorian bath: ideal for soaking with a good book and a glass of wine! Two double bedrooms with built in wardrobes. Large en-suite shower in Bedroom 1. There is a double sofa bed in the living room for larger parties. If it rains there is high speed WiFi and a 37" widescreen TV with BT Vision HD, BT Sports and BluRay player.

About Rob Day

We have always dreamed of owning a place by the sea in this part of Kent, since visiting from London when we were kids.

We wanted to find somewhere by the sea, away from crowds and traffic, but without sacrificing creature comforts. We love the peace, space and the amazing light on the beach outside but also the award-winning independent shops and restaurants in and around Deal.

We spend as much time as possible at the property but will always do our best to accommodate guest bookings and do not "black out" any dates. We hope you love it here as much as we do!

Why Rob Day chose Deal

We think Deal and Walmer offer the perfect combination of traditional British seaside atmosphere, unspoilt and historic architecture, and miles of clean and often deserted beaches. Walmer is the quiet and leafy end of town with an incredible sense of peace and space on the beach, which is often completely empty even in August.

Our dog appreciates the canine company to be found out walking along the coast path.

We love to cook and eat out: there is a market, superb independent butchers and fishmongers, delicatessen, independent wine merchants and a large Sainsburys all close by. At least five chippies, countless cafes, and a long list of quality independent pubs and restaurants for all budgets.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is roomy and spacious. Parking is free and easy even in high season.

Everything is within walking distance - whether you want to visit the castles, eat out, buy supplies or head up the cliffs towards Dover.

Notes on accommodation: The apartment is on the ground floor at the rear of the building shown in the photographs. Outside: At the front of the house there is a large and well maintained communal garden with high screen hedging all around, mainly laid to lawn with two benches. This is shared with the other apartments in the building and is accessed through a locked gate. This is useful on windy days but with so much open beach and grass all around you might not bother to use it! There is a small terrace with flower beds outside the living room providing access to the entrance to the building. Utility Room: Built-in laundry cupboard with washing machine and tumble dryer, central heating boiler and lots of space for towel storage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen and bath, face, hand and kitchen towels are provided. Please bring your own beach towels. The property can be cleaned and linen changed at any point in your stay for an extra charge. Other: There is plenty of room to store bikes in the communal entrance hall. The apartment also has its own large entrance hall with extensive coat hanging and space for shoes, boots, buggies etc.

Great location.

The flat is well equipped and has good quality fittings. The area is quiet.

I found it a bit gloomy as it is painted in dark colours. Just a personal thing as I like places to be light. My friends loved it, so maybe it's just me.:)

great location with character (and grateful our dogs were allowed!)

This ground floor apartment was ideally located so close to the beach and promenade into Deal one way and Walmer Castle in the other. We didn't use the private garden but can imagine it would be lovely to use in the summer. The main bedroom was large and the shower excellent and the second bathroom was handy with a bath which proved useful after long walks! The apartment is quite dark generally and whilst a lot has been mentioned about the steps outside there is also a step in the hall way down to the second bedroom, so my mother with visual and mobility impairments could only use the main bedroom. Storage in the second bedroom is also very limited and you do need to keep the curtains closed when not fully dressed as it is at street level with people and cars passing close by! It is an old building so there are some issues with the conversion like the wc not fixing to the wall very well and the lounge door not closing; it goes not have a luxury feel despite its contemporary furnishings but it was comfortable. On the plus side however, there is easy parking, very convenient entrance halls both to the house and the apartment, large pantry and utility cupboard that added convenience and storage space. And it was perfect for the dogs - room for their beds, bowls, towels and all that accompanies them on their holidays! In addition to being close to the beach, there is easy access to Walmer, Deal, Dover and all great places on the Kent coast north and south, as well as Canterbury and Tenterden - too many interesting places for just 5 days break so we look forward to returning. Deal is the location for the recent ITV drama Liar, so it was interesting to visit the pier and other places 'as seen on TV'!

We had a very enjoyable stay mid September and were blessed with weather as seen on the profile picture. The apartment was perfect for my family (wife and 4 month old son) and parents. Visiting from London it was a pleasant experience for quiet nights to sleep through. The kitchen and lounge area is of good size and no chance of feeling cramped with four adults. A handy walk-in pantry off the side of the kitchen works well. The main bedroom and en-suite is of good size as well, though for the shy type when mother nature calls, there is no door to the en-suite. The shower was excellent. The second bedroom is small for a double though still functional. Main bathroom is also small but has a lovely bathtub. Adjacent to the main bathroom is washer as well as dryer, all hidden by doors. All very useful for returning home with clean clothes. As well, when entering the apartment there is a second door to enter the flat which allows enough space for jackets, prams, gold clubs, or whatever else is bulky. I'd be happy if the flat was mine so would be happy to return.

We enjoyed the area and it is a casual 20 minute stroll to the town centre of Deal. Plenty of green areas to have a picnic or kick a football. Its a nice town centre with some independent retailers to the north of the high street. Other attractions worth seeing are the castles of Walmer, Dover and Deal (Deal offering the most basic experience of the three). We were very impressed with Walmer and its gardens, once a annual summer retreat for the Queen Mother. Nearby its worth visiting the ruins of Richborough and the seaside town of Broadstairs. For the golfers, you are spoiled with the choice of the Open Championship course Royal St.Georges, Royal Cinque Ports (also once hosted the Open) and the Princes Golf course (27 holes).

A little bit too much style over substance

On first glance the flat had a wow factor with modern décor and funky light fittings......however...toilet leaked(rectified by the day before we left)both toilet seats loose and slid disconcertingly when used ,bedroom blind broken, 2 lights not working.,unpainted plaster after renovations in 2nd bedroom and lounge décor a bit shabby. chose this flat due to disabled mother however there are 3 steps on path before front door that wasn't pointed out.

Good location but needs a little tlc to bring it up to standard.

As soon as we were informed about the lightbulbs, the blind and the loo seat, we fixed them: we are sorry that these details were missed when we prepared the apartment for you. I would suggest that in future, if you need accommodation that is entirely step-free for your mother, you check with the property owner in advance. We would have explained that there are steps up from the street, if you had asked. We have had many guests over the past four years who use wheelchairs. They all found the apartment much more accessible than a typical period property. Of course everybody is different. It is important that you make your needs clear before you book.

Walmer / Deal


The building is on the sea front at Walmer Beach. Walmer is an expansive shingle beach studded with wild grasses and fennel and backing onto well maintained greens popular with runners and dog-walkers. The beach extends unbroken for a mile or two to Kingsdown in the south, where there is a great beachside pub, The Zetland Arms. To the north you can walk up past Deal pier to the Sandwich golf courses. There is an excellent beginners sailing club and fishing boats offer days trips from Deal.


The property is about 15 minutes drive from the A2/M2, 90 minutes drive from central London or 75 minutes from the Dartford crossing.

Dover 7 miles (high speed trains approximately 70 minutes from here to London).

Euro tunnel terminal 17 miles.

Local trains run from London and Dover to Walmer (1.5 miles).


Walmer Castle 5 minutes walk, Deal Castle, Pier and Town Centre 15-20 minutes walk.

Sandwich 6 miles. Dover and the White Cliffs 7 miles. Broadstairs 16 miles. Turner Contemporary Gallery Margate 16 miles. Canterbury 21 miles.

Further Details:

There is a range of shops around the corner including a pharmacy, two pubs, two chip shops, a general store, a grocery and an excellent French restaurant. The major supermarkets in Deal are Sainsburys (open until 10pm every night) and the Co-op.

Deal's high street has everything you could need including Marks & Spencer and a wide range of independent shops including a large butcher, fishmonger, wine merchant, and lots of gift and antique shops.

Deal has too many good pubs and restaurants to list. Whether you are after full English breakfast, a cream tea, local real ale or champagne and oysters it is all here.
