San Jean Irene is newly refurbished and beautifully furnished and decorated to a high standard, second-floor compact apartment in the Siesta Mar Vacation Club, in the lovely south coast resort of Cala en Porter.

Ideal for couples, looking for a relaxing holiday in comfortable surroundings.

Located just 10 minutes from the airport.

The apartment has received significant investment and guests will enjoy a brand new kitchen and bathroom which has also been completely refitted to include a rainforest style shower. It has been completely retiled throughout and new windows and doors installed. A gate has also been installed between the communal staircase that leads to the apartment, for privacy.

There is a beautifully landscaped pool area and gardens on the complex. A second, much quieter pool is also available for guests to use, in the neighbouring Siesta Mar 1 complex.

The recent addition of security gates at all public entrances to Siesta Mar, means that only guests staying in one of the complexes apartments will have access to the swimming pools, sunbeds, bar and restaurant facilities, creating more of an exclusive environment.

A floor plan of the apartment is included in the photos section, to enable you to see the size and layout of the apartment, before you book.

This apartment has it's own very private, large south facing balcony/terrace with views over the pool and the sea in the distance, with outside dining furniture and sun loungers.

French doors from the terrace lead into the fully air conditioned lounge, kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom. Close to the resort centre and only 5 minutes walk to the beach, shops, restaurants, bars and supermarkets, hairdressers, bank/cash facilities, medical centre and pharmacy, everything you could need is within easy reach.

Not keen on cooking while you're on holiday? No problem, there is a restaurant, Pizzeria, snack bar and licensed bar on site in the Siesta Mar complex.

There are many different restaurants and bars to choose from in the village, which are a short stroll away.

There are two late opening supermarkets within a two-minute walk, that stock a large range of fresh food, groceries, beers, wines and spirits and both have bakeries, baking fresh bread throughout the day.

You'll enjoy all the comforts you would expect at home and find that everything is provided for a relaxing holiday

Wi-Fi internet is included.

A Bose Soundtouch wifi and Bluetooth speaker system are provided, all you need to do is download the Bose Soundtouch app for android or iOS and you can stream your favourite music directly from your phone or tablet.

The full range of popular UK TV channels is now also available, including sky sports and movies.

Apple Tv is also available if you have an iOS device.

The beautiful cove of Cala en Porter is just a five minute walk, via 180 steps or a short journey via the recently re-introduced land train that runs from outside the Playa Azul hotel, to the beach and back on a regular basis, for those who prefer not to use the steps. The train costs 2 euros each way.

Flights to Menorca are available from most major UK airports with the following major airlines:

Thompson (TUI), Thomas Cook, Easy Jet, Ryanair, Jet2 and British Airways.

Out of season flights are available from Gatwick with Monarch or via connecting flights with Iberia, Vueling and Air Europa from Barcelona or Palma Majorca.

Guests can arrive anytime after 3 pm on arrival day and departure is before 10 am on departure day.

Mahón & Ciudadela

The capital, Mahón, has many buildings dating from the period of British occupation (1713-83) and is best explored on foot. The attractions include the Town Hall (Casa Consistorial), the Church of Santa Maria and the Church of San Francisco. Trips are available around the harbour.

A good highway links Mahón with the older town of Ciudadela (the former capital) on the opposite side of the island. Ciudadela is home to a cathedral, partly dating from the 14th century, and also boasts several elegant palaces and medieval churches.

Beaches

Menorca is blessed with around 46 sandy beaches, plus a few rocky and pebbly beaches, many of which are beautiful small, deserted coves.

There is no doubt that the fine sand on many of the beaches, coupled with glorious scenery and excellent facilities make Menorca one of the Europe’s favourite beach holiday destinations.

The bigger the resort, the more likely you are to find comprehensive sporting activities and playgrounds for children, along with the security of lifeguards and first aiders.

Most beaches have good quality restaurants and bars offering a wide choice of local and international refreshments.

Leisure & Recreation

There is so much to do for those who want a more active holiday, the options are mind-boggling: riding schools, tennis, athletic, and of course golf clubs; water sports such as diving, windsurfing, fishing and sailing are available in many resorts; plus riding schools, tennis clubs, athletics clubs, the list is endless.

If you enjoy fishing, then Menorca is the perfect destination, where surfcasting and rock fishing are very popular; or hire a boat, with or without crew. On land there are a number of companies who offer hunting expeditions and equipment.

Cycling is also a popular sport in Menorca; there are specialist cyclist companies and a fabulous choice of easy to follow routes of varying difficulty. Even the casual cyclist can enjoy a day or two cycle hire and gently meander along the quiet roads, absorbing the scents and scenery and stopping at a roadside inn to savour the ‘menu del día’ at lunchtime.

A ramble in the countryside of Menorca is a year round pleasure, with its many rural locations, ideal bases to intimately enjoy the glorious countryside at a leisurely pace. Again, safe marked routes are to be found in most areas.

In summary, whatever your sport, it is likely to be represented on Menorca, and the local associations welcome visitors.

Culture & Excursions

The local authorities throughout Menorca have produced multilingual guides for those interested in discovering the history and culture of their chosen destination.

Wherever and whenever you visit Menorca, you are likely to stumble upon a local fiesta or event during your stay. Check with your tourist office on arrival for information on local cultural events.

Cuisine

Fresh seafood is in abundance; especially heavenly are squid, mullet, prawns, mussels and sea bass. The island’s signature dish is caldereta de llagosta, a beautiful lobster stew, which was originally prepared by the fisherman on their boats.

The introduction of British Friesian cattle in the 18th century means that Menorca produces some pretty delicious dairy products, including the famous Mahon cheese.

If you enjoy aperitif before dinner, then make sure you ask for a gin, made with Gin Xoriguer. Back in the 18th century Menorca started production of gin on the island to satisfy the demand from the British sailors.

The Xoriguer distillery is the last of its kind, and the gin is still sold in traditional earthenware bottles. Drink it neat, it doesn’t work with tonic, but mixed with lemonade, it becomes a typical Menorcan drink called Pomada, which is drunk at the local fiestas.

Climate

Menorca enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate, a mild all year climate. The summer starts hotting up in May and reaches the heights of 30-35 degree summers in July August. The winters are mild, although can get quite rainy, but the scenery is spectacular during the rainy sessions.

Why Keith Durrant chose Alaior

I love Menorca and in particular all of the south coast resorts. It is very uncommercialised, the locals are very friendly and I like the laid back atmosphere wherever you go.

Cala en Porter is a lovely little resort, with everything you need close to hand, a great place to chill out and get away from it all.

The apartment is named after my Mom, Jean Irene. She loved Menorca and we spent many a happy holiday there and have stayed all over the island over the last 30 years.

Everyone I know who visits the island seems to instantly take a liking to it, as although it is Spanish, it still has an English feel to it, maybe due to the fact that it was ruled by the English several times in it's long history. Proof of which you will see in the architecture of both Mahon and the old capital Ciutadella.

Being situated very close to the airport, it's easy to get to and is ideal for a relaxing break.

What makes this apartment unique

There is lots to do and see in the local area, a beautiful beach, lovely communal gardens and pools to enjoy.

The property is compact, however has all of the facilities and comforts that you would expect and need without feeling cramped.

The large south facing terrace is ideal for sun worshippers, however a large parasol offers welcome relief for those who prefer to sit in the shade.

Enjoy the air conditioning in the evening, always makes sleepless nights, due to the heat, a thing of the past.

A lovely modern, well presented interior and some little luxuries, like a rainforest shower, brand new fitted kitchen, wireless speaker system and towelling bath robes all await you at San Jean Irene.

A smoke detector & fire blanket are installed for your safety together with a first aid box. The apartment is strictly no smoking. Please note that some of the complex facilities may not be fully available in the early or late season. Outside: Large private balcony/terrace with dining furniture, large parasol and sun loungers offers perfect privacy and being south facing, has the sun for most of the day. Shared pool open from 9am daily. Lovely communal gardens provide welcome shade in the heat of the mid day sun. Utility Room: There is a utility cupboard with a full size ironing board and steam iron. Great apartment.

Highly recommend this special holiday apartment. The apartment was spotlessly clean, very well appointed (in fact exceed our expectations). Everything you could think of was provided - a real home from home. The decor and furnishings were top class. Keith provided a very useful pre-arrival information guide and was very responsive to our queries, There was also extensive information and guides in the apartment regarding the use of all appliances and equipment. Extremely comfortable in every way. Fabulous balcony where could watch the sun rise and set - very relaxing. There are two supermarkets very close by and the bus stop to Mahon is just down the road. Found the people very friendly and helpful. We were still able to use the swimming pool in October - weather was glorious. Thank you Keith for sharing your apartment. Highly recommend to friends and family.

Happy Holiday

Lovely apartment being ideal for a couple. Well furnished with a great balcony. Really good location bar the steps to the beach being little tiring.

Swimming pool was busy due to kids holidays but the beach is really good and picturesque.

Keith has always been responsive and helpful to any questions or requests.

Would go back again in few years avoiding August due to kids in pool

and towels over sun beds brigade. Still had a great holiday though, food

and bar drinks similar price in the main to England.

Exactly as pictured and described. Very well equipped. A lovely setting/resort. Child friendly.

My 12 year old daughter and I stayed 4 nights we felt totally safe and had everything we could want within walking distance. The apartment was well equipped, a lovely coffee machine and good quality equipment. Good quality crisp bedding and luxurious large soft towels all made our stay so good. We would definitely love to revisit in the future. The owner provided plenty of information about the area which was most helpful. He also sent a very useful information pack prior to our arrival. Wonderfully relaxing holiday in the perfect location

My husband and I stayed at this perfect little apartment from 23rd July until 7th August. The apartment was spotlessly clean and really was home from home. My husband commented on how similar the decor was to our own home 😊 The apartment is small but has absolutely everything you could need. We paid extra for the air con and wifi and I have to say we honestly found the air con to be a blessing. The temperature hit 36 degrees on one of the days we stayed and to be able to come into a beautifully cool apartment was wonderful. We had clean towels half way through our stay and although nobody came in to clean this was no hardship as we looked after it in the same way we would if it was our own home by cleaning the surfaces, sweeping up etc. There's a wonderful pool and terraced area to sunbathe on. This did get a little busy as it was the school holidays but we retreated back to the apartment if this happened and sat on the gorgeous little terrace that is part of the apartment. We loved the coffee machine and the fact the supermarkets stock a wide variety of products and delicious freshly baked bread and croissants which we shopped for daily. Thank you Keith, we really enjoyed our stay in your beautiful apartment.

A beautiful bay awaits you, with fine golden sand, a crystal blue sea and beach bars and restaurants.

Cala en Porter beach is extremely safe and has a red cross station throughout the summer months.

Travel:

Menorca airport (Mahon/Mao) is less than 15 minutes away by car.

The capital city of Mahon/Mao, is a 20 minute drive away, however a regular bus service runs from Cala en Porter daily.

There are car hire companies offices in Cala en Porter should you wish to explore this lovely island further.

Distances:

Cala en Porter centre is less than a 5 minute walk.

Mahon/Mao is 15km or a 20 minute drive away.

Cuitadella (the old capital) is 45km or a 45 minute drive.

The nearest town is Alaior, approx. 10 minutes drive away, which has some beautiful medieval architecture

Further Details:

The small, exciting resort of Cala en Porter lies on the south coast of Menorca, attracting visitors from all over the world to laze on the fine white sands which cover the small beach in front of the resort. It is the largest resort in the Alaior district of Menorca, offering some lively nightlife for Menorcan standards, although it is not a rowdy destination by any means.

Protected by steep cliffs on either side, the Cala en Porter Beach slopes gently into the warm waters of the Mediterranean, creating the perfect, sheltered beach for both sunbathing and swimming. There are a number of small refreshment stalls on the beach, including a couple of bars, and there is a small train which can take you back up the steep hill towards the villas and rental apartments in Cala en Porter itself.

The Caves of Cala en Porter and the Calas Caves are wonderful places to explore. Children and parents alike can be seen excitedly investigating the highly arched and hugely atmospheric caves, which also offer some of the nicest sea views along the south coast

Walkers will be delighted by taking a rental apartment in Cala en Porter. The highest peak in Menorca, Mount Toro and the sanctuary of Mare de Deu del Toro are great places to walk and relax. Bird lovers flock to the area, as the sanctuary is a favoured breeding ground for many of Menorca’s wetland birds. The local riding stables do a roaring trade, especially during the summer with trails towards Mount Toro, and if you would like to go riding whilst in Cala en Porter, early booking is essential.

You will find a large selection of bars and restaurants all within a 5 minute walk of the apartment.

Other things to do whilst your in Menorca:

A visit to Mahon and a glass bottom boat trip around the harbour.

A visit to the following popular resorts - Binibequer, Punta Prima, Son Bou, Santa Tomas, Cala Galdana, Arenal d'en castle, Cala en Bosch.

Booking Notes:
We require a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total rental amount, including any add ons, to secure a booking. The remaining balance is required 8 weeks (60 days) prior to arrival. A refundable good housekeeping deposit of £100 is also payable, which will be refunded within two weeks unless any soiling, damage or breakages have occurred during your stay. Bookings made less than 8 weeks (60 days) in advance will be required to pay the full rate on booking.
Booking cancellations can be made upto 8 weeks (60 days) prior to arrival and a cancellation charge of £25 will be deducted from the refund total.


Changeover Day

Friday changeover is preferred, but we will try to accommodate any requests.
Guests can enter at any time after 3pm on arrival and must vacate by 10am on the day of departure.

Notes on prices:
The following products and services are available at an additional supplement which is payable with your final balance payment:
- a mid week towel change for 7 or 14 night stays, for those guests who would like a clean set of towels mid way through their stay, £10 per person (towels are changed after 7 nights for 14 night stays free of charge).

- VIP early check in, at 12:00pm at £10:00.
- VIP late check out, upto 04:00pm at £10.00.
