Lots of charm and exceptional value

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in the area several times, often in larger villas. However, we really enjoyed the charm of this village house. We did miss a pool, but the various terraces in this house provide ample opportunity for dining, relaxing and enjoying the sun. We do like cooking and so missed an actual oven but this did not spoil our stay - just became more adventurous with the BBQ. The village is small but does provide the essential boulangerie; again we missed not having a local cafe, but the one restaurant (with the magnificent Madame du Plant - so named after the digestive she insisted on giving us) provides good value for money and local produce. We were at the village during the fete, so there was a bit more activity, but there is so much to do in the local area. Uzes is the usual local attraction, but we also enjoyed the authentic character of nearby Bagnols.

Highly recommended for a couple or a small group - Hugo, our dog loved it - though not sure the local cats had such a good time. Mary, the owner, was extremely helpful at all stages.

Lovely house in a charming village

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as a family of 4 and enjoyed the ambiance of the house. The terraces captured the sun throughout the day. We travelled with our dog who loved the walks around the house. I have recommended it to others and we would stay again.

Lovely St Laurent la Vernede house

  • 5 of 5

My husband and me have stayed in this charming house for a week mid August 2014. True to description there is a plenty of space inside and out - two nice sized bedrooms, mezzanine area, large living and dining room, bathroom and separate shower, homely kitchen, three terraces- one nicer then the other one. We have used the terraces throughout the day as the sun turned to get the most of it. The most perfect one is the top terrace for enjoying sunsets and gazing a the stars in the night.

We have used bbq a few times, internet connection was perfect and all of the premises were clean and inviting- including the bunch of welcome sunflowers on the kitchen table. The owner was helpful by providing a list of things to do in the area without which we would have missed a bin collection day, cheese van during the week or pizza van on Friday. Also we had frequent visits from cute local cats which was fun.

The location was perfect- small village to enjoy peace and quiet but close enough to reach near villages( and there is plenty of those around) or bigger towns- we even made it to Carcassonne.

There are places to swim in the river in Gard, Haribo factory near Uzes, canoeing and many walking routes.

Local people were very friendly which made the place even more attractive for us.

All in all, a great place in a lovely area! Definitely recommended!

Maison de Village, St Laurent de Vernede

  • 5 of 5

We chose this residence on the Owners Direct site due to the excellent description and plentiful photographs, and it was one of the few with glowing reviews and the owner's responses seemed professional. All so important. The description of the premises was accurate in every way, and we would concur entirely with the favourable comments made by other clients. Charming house, high spec equipment/furnishings, every comfort (we had occasion to light the log fire successfully), very accessible for interesting places. We hope to return soon.

A real gem, private but close to local amenities.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this charming house several times and have never failed to be captivated by the property and its location. Situated in a quiet lane, in this friendly village, a stone's throw from open countryside and forest walks, but only a few yards from the boulangerie, tabac and post office. A perfect base for exploring this wonderfully interesting area and we have no hesitation in recommending a stay in this house, with its real French feel.

Very comfortable house in lovely location

  • 5 of 5

I decided to risk a visit in December for some winter sun and it paid off! Not only was the weather perfect for walking - clear blue skies and a cool temperature - but also this attractive and well-equipped house was really comfortable and warm.

The house is obviously geared towards summer living - three terraces provide lots of opportunity for eating outside or just simply relaxing in or out of the sun - but we got the wood burning stove roaring away to supplement the heaters and the house became very warm and cosy, just the job to relax in after a long winter walk.

There's no space to park by the house (except for a brief stop to unload the car on arrival) but parking in the village square is easy, free and under 100 metres away. Limited shopping is available there so it's necessary to go to Uzes for a full range of shopping, but there's an excellent bakery/patisserie round the corner barely 50 metres away - perfect for the fresh morning croissant!

And Uzes is a lovely town with a lot of history, only 13km away, with a wonderful Saturday market, though you need to get there promptly to give time to look around, as it closes quite early.

So, a great place to have an enjoyable holiday, only 100km or so from Montpellier airport and located in an area full of things to do, history to soak up, and best of all, surrounded by vineyards and restaurants - perfect!

So, I will be back, next time in summer so I can enjoy the other side of this lovely house.

Location

From the Owner

I looked in many areas of France before finding this delightful area, which is beautiful, has so much to see and do and also a lovely mediterranean climate. I love characterful properties and this one has a lovely feel to it. It is quiet and peaceful but has the amenities of the village on the doorstep as well as country walks. It is attractively equipped and furnished. The 3 terraces give one an option of sitting in sun or shade at different times of the day, and there is nothing nicer than sitting on the roof terrace with a glass of rose, watching the sun go down

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Garons (Nimes) at 40 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Marseille at 100 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Uzes at 12 Kilometres Nearest Train : Nimes/Avignon at 25 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Remoulins at 20 Kilometres Car: necessary

There are many excellent restaurants in the area near this beautiful holiday rental, especially in Uzes where there is the market on Saturdays and Wednesdays, which is busy with everything on sale from fresh olives, fish and vegetables to linen and lavender. The nearby village of St Quentin La Poterie also has a good market on Friday morning, a supermarket and a good variety of nice shops and restaurants, plus a chemist and doctor. Also an ATM.

The historic towns of Avignon, Nimes and Orange are all within easy reach, the latter two holding musical and operatic performances in their Roman Amphitheatres. Nimes also has a variety of Ferias throughout the year, including a two week Flamenco Feria in January and another in September.

For the more energetic, there are great walksfrom the house and cycling routes nearby ( cycles can be hired from St Quentin la Poterie). There is a large area under the house where you can store your bikes or kayacs. The Ardeche Gorge is only an hour away. Go swimming at Les Cascades de Sutadet, Montclus or numerous other places along the river Ceze or Collias where you can canoe beneath the spectacular Roman aquaduct at the Pont du Gard. An hour or so and you can be at the beach at St Maries de la Mer in the Carmargue, famous for its flamingos, white horses and Bulls, or at Les Pieds Nus , a lovely restaurant on the beach with sunloungers near Le Grau du Roi.

If you prefer to swim in as pool , there is a public one in Uzes or a water parc , La Bouscarosse

Alternatively you can visit the wonderful caves a short drive away, such as La Grotte de la Salamandre , only recently open to the public where they also hold concerts with dinner from time to time.

Most villages, including ours, have a local wine shop / vineyard where you can have a tasting. The house is right on the edge of the Cotes du Rhone and Pays D'Oc areas.
