About the property

Barn in Bath, Somerset, England

'The Barn', which shares the entrance drive with the cottage, is accessed via a single track 'farm lane' and is a recent conversion of just over 47 sq.m. in floor area.

It has one double bedroom and can sleep a further two on the double sofa bed in the living room.

It is well equipped including underfloor heating, a wood-burning stove, fully tiled wet room, stripped pine flooring, exposed beams, free WiFi, flat screen TVs and a fully equipped kitchen with granite worktops. There is a small utility area with washer/dryer etc.

Internal doors are oak ledge and braced and there is a stable door to the main entrance. French doors lead from the living room to a raised patio and a rough paved closed yard with table, seating and barbecue. There is plenty of parking to the front of the property.

We are happy to take bookings of less than three nights but a minimum charge of £200.00 will apply. This means the calendar should show all days as 'available arrival' unless shown as 'unavailable'.

Delightful getaway

We were greeted with a very warm welcome and some lovely lemon drizzle cake to have with a drink after our long drive. There was homemade bread, eggs and bacon left for our breakfast the next day which we so enjoyed. The barn was beautifully kitted out with everything you need, with a wonderful wet room that had a magnificent power shower.

Our 3 nights happened to have been on the 3 successive hottest days of the year, but despite the overbearing heat we still wanted to go on long walks with our daughter's cocker spaniel, Charlie and even did a walk to Bath along the canal (about 5 miles). This was a challenge in 30 degree heat, but at least Charlie had plenty of places along the way to have a cooling dip!

Cannot fault the accommodation or it's owners in any way and would recommend it for anyone who wants a peaceful break. Lovely rural location, but not too far from Bath city centre.

Perfect!

Thank you so much to Vivienne, Richard and Megan. This is a perfect get away and a lovely break off work. The barn is cosy and we had the warmest of welcomes by Vivienne and the dog; as well as fresh eggs, milk, bacon, homemade cake and bread.

The location was perfect and peaceful. The roads were slightly muddy and narrow but that is very much expected as you are staying in the country side.

We will definitely be returning and we are really looking forward to it.

Great view, well presented clean and well equipped accommodation, bacon, eggs milk and cake provided

Lovely, clean, well presented and very well equipped accommodation in a peaceful location with a great view. The eggs, bacon, ketchup, milk and the large Victoria sponge cake that awaited us when we arrived were a welcome bonus. Good value for money.

The feedback in the visitors' book and online reviews is all so glowing, that it set me thinking that surely nothing can be so good that there is no room for improvement. So I hope the following is constructive criticism kindly meant:

The downsides are

1. That my wife found the bed mattress unsupportive (I had no problem with it). If anybody else finds that there is a dip in the mattress which makes it uncomfortable, please tell Vivienne so she knows my wife is not the only one.

and

2. Just a small point - that my wife searched in vain for somewhere to fix an outdoor clothes line - so we dried our washing on the clothes line of friends we visited during our stay. Vivienne says "There are clothes drying facilities above the washer/dryer but we will investigate the possibilities of installing an external clothes line". Many people would not find this to be a problem, but we doubt how effective the drying rack above the washer/dryer would be, located, as it is, in the entrance to the wet room, so likely to be affected by high humidity if the shower has been used and the extractor fan has not yet extracted all the damp air.

Thanks to Vivienne and Richard for all the hard work that must go into keeping the barn so clean and pleasant, and for a pleasant stay.

Excellent Cottage spoilt by poor road access.

A very comfortable cottage, well equipped. a lovely welcome pack on arrival was a nice touch. The cottage is handy for many places of interest. The lanes from Batheaston to the cottage are both very narrow and very muddy which was rather a down side.

Outstanding cosy retreat

What a wonderful hideaway this is. We received a very warm welcome by Vivienne and Richard and the extra treats on our arrival were great; including home made lemon drizzle cake, bread, eggs from their hens, bacon, and milk. This was a great introduction to our stay. We also received a warm welcome from Megan the dog, the fluffy cat, geese and hens.

There is also so much to do in Bath and the surrounding area. We have stayed in many Ownersdirect properties abroad and in the UK; this one is tops.

New Years Eve stay at this beautiful barn!

We give this place 5+ stars! We loved our stay here, arrived to find a beautiful barn with a great starter kit - logs, bread, bacon, eggs and even home made cake! Vivienne was friendly and welcoming and communication before was easy.

The owners have clearly spent time thinking through the barn - it has everything you could need in the kitchen, DVDs, books games and with the underfloor heating and fire it was nice and warm for a winter stay.

2 of us stayed for the 4 nights and had 2 friends to stay for a night on the sofa bed which worked fine (lots of bedding and towels provided)

The Barn at Ramscombe Cottage is situated on the southern slopes of Little Solsbury Hill and on the edge of the beautiful St. Catherine's Valley which provides plenty of walks without the use of the car.

Local places of interest include the historic City of Bath, Lacock, Castle Combe, Bradford on Avon, Kennet and Avon Canal (Bike and boat hire available), River Avon ( Boat hire and boat trips), Dyrham Park( National Trust), Prior Park (National Trust) and the American Museum at Claverton Down.

The Dorset coast, Weston-super-Mare, Stonehenge, Avebury and Salisbury are within a comfortable day trip by car.

There is a local general store in the village of Batheaston ( approx 1½ miles)

and various restaurants and pubs within 3 miles.
