Two luxury holiday cottages set within a quiet hamlet close to Whalley in Lancashire. Ribble Cottage was recently awarded 5 Stars by Visit England for its luxury and modern comforts. Hodder Cottage is located next door overlooking beautiful gardens.

There are two bedrooms in Ribble Cottage, three bedrooms in Hodder Cottage each with plush bathrooms and en-suites (see below for details). Both have a large open plan living space, a modern fully equipped kitchen and a dining area to seat six comfortably. Floor to ceiling bi-fold doors can be opened out to reveal a continuous patio, an outside dining area and view to the woods beyond. There is a BBQ area too, perfect for outdoor dining in the summer months.

Local attractions include Dean Clough Reservoir, Pendle Hill, Clitheroe Castle and the historic village of Whalley. Short walks or long hikes can be found in The Forest of Bowland and surrounding areas; as can golf, cycling and horse riding. Your hosts Ian and Sue have been lucky enough to welcome guests from all over the world and promise to make you feel at home throughout your stay.

Hodder Cottage has 3 bedrooms (2 doubles, one with en-suite and one twin) sleeping six people and there is a sofa bed in the lounge to accommodate a few extra guests. The cottage has underfloor heating throughout, HDTV (Freeview), WiFi and a DVD player. The modern open plan kitchen is very well equipped with a washer/dryer, dishwasher and everything you could ever need. There is a master bathroom with a freestanding bath, sink and separate shower. Linen and towels are provided, every detail has been thought about, all you need to do is turn up and enjoy your stay. We are Ian and Sue and have been lucky enough to welcome holidaymakers to The Ribble Valley from all over the world. Whether you prefer your privacy or to be shown the local sights of Lancashire, we look forward to making you feel very welcome. As neighbours you will hear very little from us. There are no pets in the grounds, so local walkers and the occasional grandchild of ours are likely the only other people you might come across throughout your stay.

Little gem hidden away in the Lancashire countryside!

The experience started well before arriving for our 11 day stay in Hodder Cottage. I work and live in Oman and was looking to getaway from all the heat in a place me and my family (wife and 3 kids (6,3, and 8months) could relax in and call home for the duration. After finalising the booking, Ian and Sue (I&S) enquired about the facilities required for the children (toys, high chair, etc...), provided an address for the Tesco provisions to be dropped off, as well as a map.

On arrival at the property we were greeted by electric gates which provided a sense of security for me. I&S were waiting to greet us at the other side of the gates and show us around Hodder Cottage.

The cottage was a 3 bedroom cottage with an open plan kitchen / dining area, and lounge. The décor and cleanliness of the place was above our expectations. Two of the rooms had double beds and the third two single beds. In addition the main bedroom had an en suite. All towels, bedding, and bathrobes were provided, and in excellent condition.

The kitchen had all the creature comforts of home in terms of utensils and appliances. Everything looked new to me. The attention to detail was impeccable.

All rooms had electric skylights, which had built in electric blinds, and rain sensors. These were extremely good at providing copious lighting to the rooms.

The cottages had WiFi which worked well on the whole, but could do with a booster being fitted as the signal was intermittent depending on where you were in the residence. Speed was reasonable given we were in the country side.

Outside is a seating area for 4, a barbeque, and a small patch of grass. There was ample parking available.

As mentioned earlier access was via remote controlled electric gates which are operated by key fob (provided).

Beyond the "estate" there is a) gorgeous scenery, and sunsets which is best viewed on foot. b) a reservoir, c) plenty of wildlife. I'm abit of an amateur photographer so this was heaven for me.

I&S completely respected our privacy and only dropped by if we requested anything or if we stopped them in passing for a chat.

The property surpassed our expectations, and we would definitely look to book another stay if I&S would have us back. It was a home away from home.

A big thank you to Ian and Sue for making it a break we will remember for a long time.

Book early as they quite rightly get booked up during peak season.

Very comfortable, well equipped and friendly owners

My family stayed in Hodder cottage for a long weekend when we came to the Ribble Valley for a wedding. The cottage is furnished to a very high standard and is extremely well equipped and comfortable. Sue also lent us things for our baby free of charge. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent accommodation

Very comfortable and high standard property. Well equipped and in a lovely location. Will definitely stay here again when visiting family in the area.

Owners made us very welcome.

Only regret was that we couldn't have stayed longer.

No hesitation in rating this as a 5 star property.

A Real Gem!

My family (myself, husband, daughter 13 and son 10) stayed here for a week. We chose the location as it allowed us to visit attractions in the North West. The location was great with Manchester and Leeds easily accessible. Highlights were The Coronation St Tour Manchester and the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds.

Our hosts greeted us at the gate and walked us round the property showing us where everything was located and how to work things. The owners even went to the trouble of dropping some DVD's in once they knew the ages of the children.

The cottage itself was immaculately clean whilst maintaining a homely feeling. The kitchen was particularly well equipped. My son particularly liked the treat of a TV in his bedroom which spared us all from CBBC and Pokémon cartoons!

We were all disappointed at the end of the week when it was time to come back home as we could easily have stayed another week (and if the cottage had been free we may have even done so).

We had typical British summer weather which meant we didn't take advantage of the wonderful walks that were detailed in the very concise information folder in the property and nor were we able to make use of the bbq and lovely outside seating area.

The only negative comment would be that the outside patio area gets extremely slippery in the rain and we all had a near miss (apart from my son who did lose his footing and ended up with a very wet and bruised bottom). However, once we were aware of how slippery it was, we just took extra care.

The cottage and location was voted a hit and the children have asked us to rebook soon!

Every thing you need and some.

We arrived at llangho on Monday 19th May and were shown to Hodder Cottage, we were the first people to stay since it had been finished. The bi fold double glazed doors open up the lounge to the landscaped garden complete with fountain, there is parking directly outside the cottage for 3 vehicles. The kitchen is fully equipped with all you need double oven, built in dishwasher and washing machine, fridge freezer, induction hob so if you want to have a full blown dinner party, a snack or do some baking you'll find all you need in the cupboards and drawers. The hallway leads to 3 double bedrooms one en suite and a large family bathroom with free standing bath and shower cubicle.. All the bedrooms have roof windows which open and have remote controlled blinds. All the beds were very comfortable and each bedroom has a wall mounted T V at the end of the bed. There is adequate wardrobe space in each room and the decoration is neutral and calming. The lounge is furnished with comfortable settees and has a large flat screen tv and blu ray player housed in a media unit which contains a selection of DVD's books, local information games and even crossword books and word search. The kitchen diner has a breakfast bar for quick meals or a dining table and chairs for more formal dining. The property is in a beautiful setting with views over the valley with very few neighbours. It is so peaceful sitting on the patio with a coffee in the walled garden - it's a real "get away from it all" property. The owners Ian and Sue are a lovely couple who live close by and could not be more helpful without being intrusive. We will definitely be staying with them again in the near future. Highly recommended. The whole experience was faultless and the cottage feels really warm and welcoming from the moment you step inside.

The Ribble Valley and surrounding areas have been ranked one of the safest and nicest places to live in the UK. We moved here many years ago and have been in love with it ever since. Our location couldn't be better suited to explore the North of England. The coast is close, The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales sit on our doorstep and we can be in London or Glasgow in a little over two hours, all benefits our guests continue to enjoy.

Oakdean Cottages are the perfect place from which to enjoy special interest holidays. Much of our Ribble Valley location lies within The Forest of Bowland, an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you fish, we are perfectly located for the River Loud, River Hodder and River Ribble. Wildlife and Bird watching are also particularly popular with the Trough of Bowland, heather clad moors and wooded valleys all on our doorstep. Martin Mere, the WWF wetland in Burscough is also less than an hour away. Walking, cycling and mountain biking are popular pursuits with our guests, as is horse riding as we are close to the famous North Lancashire Bridleway that runs from Chipping to the edge of the Lake District. Other attractions popular with guests include: Alton Towers, Blackpool Tower Ballroom, East Lancashire Railway, The J.R.R Tolkien Trail and the East Lancashire Railway.

All can be organised and enjoyed throughout your stay and should you need transport anywhere, we would be more than happy to arrange it for you.

  • We pride ourselves on being the very best hosts possible and are pleased to have received some great reviews from guests that have stayed with us from all over the world. It's beautifully peaceful where we live and our location couldn't be better. The cottage sits in a very quiet spot close to a third holiday cottage and a residential bungalow. There is a village pub near by (5/10 minutes walk away), with everything The Ribble Valley has to offer right on the doorstep. Fresh farm eggs, milk and other essentials can all be supplied on request.
