Fantastic Christmas Break

  • 5 of 5

The villa was fantastic and hit all the plus points for our group, pool, great seating areas, fully equipped kitchen, plenty of bathrooms and short level walk to and from town. The owner Kirsty was a joy to book with, super friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We used Kirsty’s recommendation for transfers from the airport, it was really affordable and the drivers had fantastic customer service. In the villa the double beds were very comfy (didn’t want to leave mine but the sun was too good to miss) however the twins are not so great and bit flimsy. We had a lovely big double room with awesome balcony and there is another double with ensuite and direct access to the pool on the ground level. The other two rooms are twins and of a decent size, one upstairs and one on the ground level. It would be awesome if one of the rooms or a hall had a full length mirror for us girlies checking out our outfits before a night out. The kitchen was fully equipped, we used this lots but it could do with a wee update as the cupboards are a we bit tired from being well used. The living area is open plan with plenty of seating (comfy leather sofas) decent size flat screen and big solid dining table. The outside space is fantastic with a good size table and chairs, built in BBQ, rattan furniture, sun loungers and the fantastic heated pool with cover. The only thing that would make this area better is more outside lighting, we sat out the majority of the time and it gets dark early in the winter. We only heard the dog barking next door once and the owner came out and took him in, so we didn’t experience what others have commented on. The villa has some great unexpected touches beach towels, bathroom towels, hair dryer, full sky package and a welcome pack with really useful info. The taxis to and from town are approx €4 and drivers speak English, it can sometimes be hard to get one but just keep phoning you will eventually get through. We opted to walk most of the time, it is a really easy walk and only got taxis when we had lots of shopping. The big supermarket is Superdino in the town with underground parking, you will get fresh meat and fish here at a good price. We had lovely veal and 2kg of ribs at an amazing price. We also went to the market at Marina Rubicon which is a lovely area and took the free transfer bus to the zoo Texas Rancho, both are worth a visit. We loved our visit to this Villa and will definitely be back well done to Kirsty & Anthony Thanks

Owner's Response: Hi Julie, thank you so much for your review on Casa Calista and your kind words - it is really appreciated! A good point about the full length mirror and I will add this to our shopping list. The villa is also in line for a new kitchen, I just need to stop booking it out, so that we can a new one organised! This will be happening in the very near future. We are so pleased that you had such a lovely time and we really look forward to welcoming you back in the very near future, so that you can once again enjoy what Casa Calista and this wonderful island has to offer! Thank you once again for being great guests! Kirsty and Trevor x

Fantastic villa

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Casa Calista was pretty much faultless. The house was very spacious and clean with amazing outdoor space. The kitchen was well equipped, the pool was large and very welcome on the hotter days, and it was an easy 15 minute stroll downhill into town. Taxis are abundant in Playa Blanca so it's an easy 5 minute cab ride at the end of the night. Communication with Kirsty was great and a slight problem with the TV was fixed in no time at all. I'd come back here in a heartbeat.

Wonderful time, wonderful weaher

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a month and returned home Dec 3rd 2017. Weather was great as was the villa. Full English TV, and a lovely pool. The villa is equipped with all that you need, although the kitchen could do with a bit of updating, everything worked well, the management were always very helpful.

You can easily walk into Playa Blanca with lots of restaurants. The villa is spacious, although it is set on an estate. We have never been to Lanzarote before and found the people very friendly and food shopping is easy. There is a little supermarket across the road, which is very useful

Would definitely like to go again

Ideal for a large group with adults and children

  • 4 of 5

Kirsty was extremely helpful in the build up to our holiday. The help with car hire, directions and local amenities were the little touches that mean everything.

The rooms were perfect - four adults and three kids under six had ample space and shower facilities for all.

Kitchen had a large fridge (it does work perfectly) and washing machine, dishwasher which are very handy.

The villa was clean...the wi-fi works and the English TV kept the kids quiet (not that they needed it as they were whacked out from all the fun they had)

The pool is brilliant for kids - not sure what the previous review is all about - no it's not a sauna but it's not meant to be - it was very clean - the main pool was deep enough for swimming - my two oldest grandkids learnt to swim in the week and the shallow play pool was brilliant for my 3 year old. They spent many a long hour in the pool.....not once feeling the cold!!!

The small supermarket across the road - get there early and the fresh bread/rolls are gorgeous. A cab into town is only 4 euros and the walk even with a buggy is only 15 minutes ( thanks to Kirsty's directions).

And yes there is a small dog that barks nearby....but after a long and hectic day there's no way that puts anyone off a great holiday in a great location.

We'll be back.....

Owner's Response: Hi Glenn and family, thank you very much for reviewing your stay in Casa Calista and I am very pleased to hear that you all enjoyed yourself at this villa, and in Playa Blanca in general. The little shop is so very handy for all your daily needs, and like you say, the fresh rolls are delicious! We really are trying to get the dog to learn the Community rule that no dogs are allowed to bark in the evenings/early mornings - lets hope that this little dog can read (or perhaps its the owner of the dog that we need to keep repeating the rule too!). Thanks again, and we really do hope to see you back again later in the year. Kirsty

Stay elsewhere and enjoy your holiday

  • 1 of 5

Not worth the money or hassle, stay elsewhere and enjoy your holiday.

1. The Wifi is shocking, we paid extra to use it and it would drop constantly. I emailed Kirsty and Trevor and suggested they have the wifi looked at before their next guests arrived. They didn't respond but Trevor arrived unannounced at 9.30am the next morning for an internet diagnostic. Sitting in pjs, having breakfast on a relaxed morning with my family, I found Trevor’s unannounced visit, while well meaning, intrusive and entirely unnecessary. Trevor agreed at the time to refund the Wifi fee but we are still waiting.

2. We were traveling with 2 young children including a 6 month old baby. We chose the Villa for its heated pool, I would never in a million years describe that pool as heated. Our baby literally cried when we tried to put her in.

3. In the villa is a notice about the neighbour who works night shifts, don’t close doors or walk in heeled shoes etc so as not disturb her in the day. We stuck to this but it wasn’t mutual, paper thin walls and doors banging through the night mean a very disturbed sleep.

4. 2nd morning in the garden we could hear another English family in a garden backing onto the villa, a couple of little boys and their dad playing in the pool, they weren't being excessively noisy. The Spanish lady in the house behind shouted and threatened to call the police. We spent the rest of our holiday 'shushing' our children, hardly the relaxing family holiday.

5. INCESSANT DOG BARKING. We have 2 dogs and barking doesn't bother me but this was all day and all night.

6. The refrigerator is broken, milk would sour overnight and we daren’t leave meat in.

7. There is a broken light socket in the living room hanging out by the wires. It's a low socket and well within reach of my 4 year old.

8. Broken lock on the balcony door leaves the house insecure.

9. We spent the 2nd day cleaning the grotty place full of ants alive and dead, in dire need of a deep clean.

Casa Calista is outrageously expensive for the experience and for the standard of the house. I have emailed Kirsty and Trevor twice since returning home, requesting that the Wifi fee be refunded, I am yet to receive an email from them.

The island is beautiful and I would recommend everyone visit, just not in this villa. There are holiday rentals everywhere and you might have a better experience with a more reliable management agency.

Casa Calista - A Nice Property, Clean, Comfortable and Good Value

  • 4 of 5

The property was comfortable, spacious and clean, with everything necessary for a good family holiday. A bit of a walk into the Centre of Playa Blanca (good exercise!) but when we didn't want to do the return journey on foot, taxis were plentiful and cheap. Lovely pool at the Villa and convenience shops nearby. We didn't meet the Owners/Managers but all dealings on email and phone with Kirsty were efficient and friendly. One negative; the Villa is in a residential area and the property has many signs to remind visitors to keep quiet at night - but also during siesta time in the afternoon. This was fine with us, but it was a pity the local dogs didn't know the rules too - the canines living in residences around the Villa made an almighty racket a lot of the day! I got the impression they belong to people away all day for work as we never heard owners intervening. While, not a deal breaker for us (and obviously outside the control of the Villa management), we did find them annoying when we were using the pool/sunbathing/trying to get baby to sleep! It's just something worth bearing in mind if peace and quiet is an essential requirement for your holiday - on a few afternoons, the continuous barking certainly ensured there were no siestas on the sunbeds for us!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay in Casa Calista and I am happy that you enjoyed your stay in this villa. I am sorry that you were disturbed by the dogs barking and I have complained to the Administrator of the Community about this and asked them to contact the owners responsible to ensure that their dogs are not continually barking throughout the day. I hope this has not put you off returning to this villa, and really hope that we can welcome you back at some point in the future.
