A spacious, well equipped ground floor apartment with patio garden and parking for one car. Quiet cul-de-sac location with easy access to the head of the creek, the National Trust woodlands at Hoodown and the village shop and pubs. Open plan living room with integral dining space and fully fitted and equipped kitchen. One bedroom with a kingsize double bed. Bathroom with shower and bath. Enclosed private garden with space to sit out, dry clothes and store bicycles, canoes, surf boards etc.

About Peter Martin

We are active, outdoorsy people with three dogs and a small boat which is on a trailer outside the apartment. We love walking in the woods and along the coast paths, and spending days with the dogs on the beach at Man Sands. We also love pottering up the river on the boat and visiting the Anchorstone Cafe at Dittisham, famous for local seafood. We are also interested in wildlife particularly the many seabirds we see on the Dart, including egrets and oyster catchers. It's also a good day when we see seals and dolphins in the harbour! Having said that, we also love to settle in with a good book and a glass of something nice, and just relax!

Why Peter Martin chose South Hams

We bought the upstairs apartment in 2006 because we have always loved Dartmouth and being by the sea. We like Kingswear because it's a bit quieter than Dartmouth and because the dog walking and boat launching is right on the doorstep. However, all the fun and bustle of Dartmouth is just a short ferry ride away (or trip on the boat) but we can leave it behind when we want a little peace! Kingswear has a proper village atmosphere and it's a lovely little community where everyone knows each other. We chose the apartment for it's simple practicality, as we spend most of our time outdoors. Also, we have our own parking space! We bought the downstairs flat last year (upstairs is now permanently let) as it has a bigger garden but is essentially the same as we had before but with no stairs!

What makes this apartment unique

Being in a cul-de-sac means the 'street', such as it is, is safe and quiet. Even the main road is quiet as traffic is restricted by the capacity of the Lower Ferry - just 8 cars at a time! The most noise we get comes from the owls in the woods at night. Having said that, there is a bus stop 30 yards away if you want to go out in Torbay and leave the car behind. But if you do want to take the car you can guarantee you'll be able to park right by the front door when you return, and that's something not many properties in Kingswear or Dartmouth can offer.

Fantastic location. Kingswear and Dartmouth is now top of our favourite places list. We had an excellent week helped greatly by good weather. We shall be returning again and again and again.....The accommodation was superb for us and our two dogs and very relaxing. A very comfortable retreat at the end of each days excursions (Sept 2014)

Thank you for this very comfortable base - we have slept well, walked well and explored a surprising amount of this lovely area. The dogs have had some wonderful walks. We've also eaten well - delicious mussels at Oopsydebsys, crab sandwiches at Brixham, paella in Dartmouth. The ferry has been a particular pleasure during the day and evenings too (Sept 2014)

Location

Coast/Beach:

Waterhead Creek is 100 yards away where you can launch small boats and canoes there or sit on the green with a picnic and watch the swans and seabirds (there is often an Egret pottering about when the tide is out). Alternatively, walk either side of the creek another two hundred yards (5 mins) to the river Dart with the marina, ferries and coastal/river walks. There are two small beaches in Dartmouth or a good selection of larger ones, either side of the river within a short drive.

Fabulous location for visiting the surrounding area

We found the property to be in a great location and we think having a parking space is a important bonus. The property is well equipped with good quality equipment there was plenty of room, bed comfy and shower efficient. Great dog friendly property.

Kingswear apartment

Apartment nice and comfortable, very clean and great having hot water all the time. Lovely having patio outside but unable to use as we probably had the worse spell of weather so far this summer!! Some nice walks for taffy our dog. Very little in Kingswear without crossing over river to Dartmouth so bit disappointed in that. We did enjoy Goodrington and Paignton but a nightmare trying to park in Brixham so we gave up. On reflection should have used park and ride or bus from Kingswear.
