Guests at Casa do Limao enjoy exclusive use of the villa, gardens and pool. This stunning 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home, is the perfect 'home from home' to get away from it all and completely unwind. All of the accommodation is homely, comfortable and immaculately maintained. The property has a modern interior with kitchen/diner/lounge on the ground floor. This a great space to dine and relax, equipped with TV (download Google Chromecast App to your phone or lap top), DVD and Wi-Fi.
Patio doors lead onto a pretty, granite cobbled courtyard with yet more dining space for al fresco meals and the pool, patio and garden area below. Pick seasonal fruit from the mature fruit trees, (we have figs, pears, oranges and more). The courtyard is a real suntrap; you can dine alfresco or BBQ in the shade of the open barn area which houses our utility room, games room and a useful shower / wc.
The area is perfect for walking and cycling and within driving distance of numerous river beaches and lakes. We have a well appointed folder of information for guests at the property so whether you wish to go kayaking, swimming, horseriding or out for a wonderful meal you will not be stuck for ideas!
We love the local river beaches, there are so many to choose from and we can direct you to our favourite (free) outdoor pool and bar.
The Serra da Estrella mountain range is within an hours drive - ski in winter, or dip in a glacial pool in the summer!
We can direct you to a wonderful riding stables - go for a hack or book in for a heavenly massage!
There are some incredible eateries in the area to suit a variety of budgets, you can purchase a variety of wonderful Portuguese wines for under €3!
This area is very natural and untouched and we would love to welcome you at Casa do Limao and let you share the magic that is central Portugal.
We are based in the UK for work but our hearts are in Portugal and we are very fortunate to be able to travel over several times each year to enjoy Casa do Limao and the surrounding area which we have grown very attached to.
Marta Van Emden purchased this villa in 2008
Having looked at multiple properties we fell in love with this old place the moment we stepped through the gates. The potential to create a beautiful home was clear and we went for it!
Our time at Casa has been enhanced by the addition of the in ground pool in 2016. When we are not heading out to swim in the rivers and lakes or eat out, we are able to enjoy long relaxing days - the built in BBQ, multiple dining areas and fab living space provide us with everything we need to completely unwind and relax.
The village is small and friendly and everyone greets you enthusiastically. Having fresh delicious bread delivered to the door each morning is really quite special!
“Unspoilt haven of tranquillity”
Fabulous country house in a beautiful unspoilt and largely undiscovered area of Portugal. The house has all the modern creature comforts, dishwasher, Internet, satellite TV, washing machine etc and is extremely comfortable and superbly equipped to a very high standard. It is in a stunning and naturally beautiful scenic area. Highly recommended.
This house was in a good location, away from it all but close enough to the local supermarket for petrol and food. There were some local items for us to try and there was someone nearby to help if we needed it. We loved the pool which was very welcome on the hot days and we were also grateful for the shade provided by the barn. We tried some local restaurants and also did some of our own meals which we ate outside. We visited Coimbra and also Batalha, a favourite from a previous trip, mixing these long trips with some local places. Our daughter joined us for a few days and we were able to visit Porto when we collected her from the airport. We would like to thank Marta for her directions and information about the area. If you like peace and quiet in a very non-touristy area, then this is for you!
Boy did we need a holiday,2 weeks away from the rat race .this fitted the bill 100%.the villa was brilliant ,all the creacher comforts.the kitchen had everything you needed to cook a basic meal to a three course meal.my wife enjoyed the views and peace and quite whilst i cooked the local cusine ,wahed down with a very reasonable local bottle of wine.
The area is free of English bars,McDonald's and big breakfast.
,paradise!!
Each small town has a outdoor swimming pool ,which puts our country to shame.the river beaches are also very good.
The villa owners helped and gave helpful information from when you booked ,giving directions and sites to see.
Thank you very much
What a delightfully out of the way spot, very comfortable little house with plenty of room for four people. The kitchen was very well appointed with plenty of equipment, some of which we had no idea what they were for. Everything worked and we were especially grateful for the really good espresso maker. A huge fridge and good cooking area. The sitting and dining area was very comfortable, and no TV - what a delight. The WiFi kept us up to date with things and meant the children were usually amused. Very comfortable beds, very good welcome basket, good showers, clean and tidy. A very nice outside area, we could have done with another two sun beds, but a nice shady place to eat. We found that most restaurants were not open in the evenings in the local area, but there was one popular one just to the north about 6 miles away on the N334. The intermarche in Mortagua was very well stocked and easy to find. The plunge pool was bigger than expected and very useful in the heat of the day. Wonderful walks in the forest behind the property, a bit too much eucalyptus for my liking. Good local wine varieties from the Dao region, especially encruzado and barraida. We loved it!
Casa do Limao is a hidden gem. We stayed in the house early March and it provided all the comfort and modern conveniences we needed to relax and unwind within a peaceful country setting - a small rural hamlet where the neighbours tend to the vines and work in the fields every day. We ate out on the terrace each morning and in the evening, because it was still a bit chilly, used the log burner - lovely!. Easy access by car to many local historical towns and villages and no shortage of ideas on where to go because of the extensive information provided by the owner. The welcome basket of food and drink we arrived too was a very nice touch and an indication of the thought and attention the owners have given to both the house and those that wish to come and stay. Thank you again, Marta.
My boyfriend and I have just stayed at Casa do Limao for a week. The house itself is lovely – traditional to look at, but inside modernised and re-configured to become comfortable three bedroomed accommodation. It is really well equipped, especially for those who want to balance ‘eating in’ with ‘eating out’. We really used the house as a base for exploring the area, but I imagine the pretty and private courtyard area would be a real asset in the summer time. Within a short distance of the house we discovered a walk leading to a beautiful waterfall, and further afield, a great little market at Santa Comba Dao on a Wednesday morning complete with the piri-piri chicken experience we had been told about! But the high spot for us was a day trip to the Serra da Estrela mountains – about 45 minutes away from the house. The owners had recommended it – as we climbed the well maintained roads to the summit we could stop and look at the incredible views from various vantage points, and the snow at the top was literally the icing on the cake – deep, and largely untouched after a recent fall; the roads were cleared and gritted, so access was easy. I loved our first time in Portugal and would like to come again, perhaps in a different season to see what else it has to offer!
A beautifully restored old house in a blissfully peaceful setting. The scent of the pine and eucalyptus trees was our first impression - and the quiet... Yet the hamlet is alive with villagers tending their vines and there is the feeling of being part of the hamlet. Although keeping all the charm of an old country house, inside it is perfect and has everything you need. In mid-October we didn't need to fire up the lovely wood-stove, but felt cosy in the evenings. After days out, we stayed in and cooked most evenings, and had everything we needed.
