About the property

FR20411

The property called ‘La Blanchere’ includes a traditional stone built former winery and two nicely and tastefully renovated cottages on 2,5 ha. of land. The eldest part dates back to the early 18th century. Both gites have a lot of character and are peacefully situated in the countryside in the middle of vineyards and plum orchards in the wine region 'Cote de Duras'. From the grounds you have a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valley and of the old town and castle of the Dukes of Duras. You can relax around the swimming pool (10 x 5 m) with Roman steps and a lovely terrace. In the surrounding garden you will find garden furniture, picnic tables, BBQ, swing and boules court. In other words a very picturesque and relaxed setting for your holidays.

About Riny van Sprundel

Before we moved over from Holland in April 2003 my wife Jacqueline and I had busy jobs there. We could have continued to live this life until our pension, but somehow we both needed a new challenge and wanted to change our lives completely. We wanted to do something quite different and be more close to nature and its daily routines, which turned out to be no routine at all. During the past years we have started to fall in love with this beautiful area, its easy way of living and the friendly local people we encountered over the years. So if we ever would have to leave this place it would be with a lot of regret.

Riny van Sprundel purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Riny van Sprundel chose Lot-et-Garonne

We knew the south east of France rather well, having spent a lot of holidays over there in the past.

So we decided to start our quest over there to find an ideal place. However we soon decided to try the south west, although we had never been there before. We looked for houses for about 2 years and made about 7 trips, a lot of them leaving us with quite some deception.

Then in 2002 we encountered this property and fell in love with its wonderful location, the buildings and their possibilities to fulfill our dream.

A house with a view was what we dreamed of, surrounded by farmland and...now we found it.

In less then 2 months the sale was completed and we actually could start thinking of setting up a gîte business. So in spring 2003 we moved to France and until now without any regret.

What makes this cottage unique

La Blanchère really offers tranquility and our guests always appreciate the relaxed atmosphere. When they arrive we often hear that the property looks much nicer in reality then on the pictures.

We normally have a nice spring and summer time in this area, so people can enjoy spending lots of time outdoors until late in the evening. If you talk about this area then you talk about wine. So if you like wine you are in the right place.

A lot of interesting places, many dating back to medieval times, are at your doorstep. We are in the very heart of the Aquitaine, which in the past for some centuries did belong to the english crown.

Finally the different (far from hectic) pace of life and the hospitality of the local people are to be experienced.
