Overview

About the property

Barn in Blockley, The Cotswolds, Gloucestershire. Tranquil Location, Conveniently Located For Oxford, Cheltenham, And Shakespeare Country

The cottage offers delightful self catering holiday accommodation in the midst of the Cotswolds. Ideally suited for just two people, the property is a charming barn conversion, built in beautiful Cotswold stone. It is on 2 floors, the upper galleried floor being reached via a spiral staircase. Blockley is sometimes known as 'the secret village in the Cotswolds'. It is a hillside village glowing with the characteristic honey colour of local stone built houses, that nestles in a fold of the Cotswold hills. It is situated midway between the market towns of Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Campden, once the centre of the wool trade. The village has an attractive medieval parish church, a general store and two village inns. Blockley, in the heart of the Cotswolds is conveniently located for Oxford, Cheltenham, the Vale of Evesham and Shakespeare Country - historic Stratford-upon-Avon.

About Linda Penman

I have owned and let our cottage since 2006. I have a background in the hotel industry and have tried to ensure that the quality of everything in the cottage is of the very best standard.

Linda Penman purchased this barn in 2006

Why Linda Penman chose Cotswold district

We live just 15 miles from the cottage and wanted to be nearby so that we can manage any repairs and maintenance ourselves.

We love the Cotswolds and want to encourage people whether coming for the first time or regular visitors to explore the area from this tranquil village location.

What makes this barn unique

The cottage sits in communal grounds with another 8 properties and has the use of these gardens as well as its own private area.

The village is in the heart of the Cotswolds and yet is relatively unknown to the majority of tourists.

The situation is incredibly tranquil and a marvellous place to recharge your batteries. It is very close enough to major attractions and other villages and towns to make it a very convenient base.

WOULD CERTAINLY STAY HERE AGAIN!

  • 5 of 5

From the time we walked in the door to find a complimentary bottle of wine and fixin's for tea, we felt welcomed and right at home. The grounds around the area were charming - we even had a male pheasant and 10 or so grouse that appeared every evening. The accommodation was exactly right for two and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay.

Ratty's Retreat

  • 5 of 5

An oasis of calm in a frenetic world. Thoroughly enjoyed a very pleasant week here. Ideal property for two people, if you are not infirm. Owner has provided more than one would normally expect in a rental, which made for a comfortable and homely visit. The grounds are picture book perfect complete with babbling brook and resident ducks. The village of Blockley is a treasure. Quaint, quiet yet bustling with a strong community spirit. Local people are friendly and pleasant.

Ideally situated for all points and places of interest within an hour's drive. Walkers heaven for exploration and superb views.

Would love to have stayed for a longer visit.

We spent a glorious week in Ratty's Retreat,a gem of accommodation. The cottage was everything we hoped for and more - spotless, beautifully furnished with many extras and situated in such picturesque surroundings. We rambled through quaint villages, enjoyed many cream teas, superb local cuisine in Blockley and neighbouring villages and had a night of culture at the RSC in Stratford on Avon. Each evening we returned to the welcoming comfort of Ratty's Retreat. We are planning our return visit with eager anticipation.
