About Justin Haines

This a family owned property with the family living next to the property. We are a married couple with a 9 year old son. We are both professionals and work during the week, whist our son goes to a local village school.

Why Justin Haines chose Wiltshire

Built in 1900 as a stable block and tack room Dovenby Cottage has been used to house horses, donkeys, sheep, chickens, carts and even soldiers on leave from WWII.

In spring 2013 we lovingly converted it to a cottage of the highest quality, whilst keeping many of its period features.

We love this area of the South Cotswolds because whilst being a beautiful part of rural Wiltshire it has great accessibility to a wide range of amenities. We are surrounded by National Trust sites and properties such as Dyrham park, Laycock Abbey and Avebury, plus are very close to Bath and Bristol. One of our favourite things to do at the weekends is to walk to Castle Combe for lunch.

What makes this cottage unique

Dovenby Cottage is a lovely place to snuggle up on a cold day. It has underfloor heating throughout, but if you prefer this can be switched off and you can light a log fire. On warmer days you have a garden and patio, with bbq to enjoy.

The property is just a minutes walk to the village shop and 20 minutes from an award winning pub. It is a slightly longer walk to famous Castle Combe.

Ideally located to venture in to Bath, yet escape the crowds for rural tranquillity at the end of the day.

Wow!

This property is stunning. There is everything provided that anybody could wish for, & has been converted to the very highest standard.

The owners are just as you would wish; on hand if you have any problems, but also almost invisible if you want peace & quiet.

The property is well located for sightseeing, walking, relaxing etc.

There is a local general store for immediate provisions, and a good selection of towns & supermarkets just a few miles away for any larger shopping trips.

If you are looking for a high quality, easily accessible property, then look no further. We will definitely be booking again.

The property is beautifully decorated to high standards

Unfortunately with our stay started with the open fire kept smoking badly. The smoke kept pouring out into the living area due to it being to low the build of the fireplace being to high. On the 3rd nite our final nite my partner managed to highten the fire with large bricks found outside & was lovely cosy & toasty.

We also had a big problem with the underfloor heating not working. After the plumber changed the pump it was on again but no underfloor heating in the bedroom throughout our stay. The owners did provide us with fan heaters.

The last morning there was no hot water but & the owner had to reset the boiler & was up & running again.

The cottage is beautifully decorated but for us due to the problems we occurred it was not as relaxed as we wanted & thought.

Justin was helpful in trying his best when he could to make it comfortable.

Castle Coombe is a really lovely 40 min walk.

The more expensive pub out of the 2 pubs there is a 10/10 roast but costly.

The short 15/20 walk to the pub is great too but the food over priced & Don't forget the torch.

Boat trip in Bath was good I expect it's much more pleasant in summer. Cold in Feb!

Bath is a 20/30 mins drive from the cottage.

overall as the owners live right opposite for us our privacy was invaded.

I think this could be a quiet relaxing retreat if everything was in working order.

The wet room is absolutely revitalising yet relaxing in that bath.

cake eggs & milk were a nice surprise. :)

sofa would be nice bigger - not big enough for 2 ppl to snuggle up in front of the fire & fall asleep watching the fire burning.

Owner's Response: We were alerted on the Saturday morning that the heating was not getting warm enough. We offered a full refund should the guests wish to leave, (which was declined) purchased and provided electric heaters and had a plumber out within two hours on a Saturday. He fixed the problem promptly and we apologised and gave a discount for the inconvenience. Regarding the other feedback I would encourage readers to read our other reviews and draw their own conclusions. I am pleased that the guests were impressed with the quality of accommodation and our efforts to resolve their issue.

Perfect weekend away

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dovenby Cottage, the cottage was perfect, lovely and clean and had everything we needed, even a tasty cake to welcome us! We enjoyed cosy evenings with the log fire on.

Justin was really helpful and welcoming, giving us recommendations of places to visit and good restaurants. We really enjoyed the walk to Castle Combe from the cottage.

We would highly recommend staying here, thanks Justin!

Beautiful cottage situated in a lovely area.

We found the cottage to be very well equipped and it had everything we needed for our short break, and it was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The added touches e.g. lovely thick towels and bathrobes, toiletries and welcome pack all added to the comfort and relaxation.

We have already recommended the cottage to family and friends and would definitely stay here again.

Excellent accommodation for two people.

A cosy,well equipped cottage in a lovely village with a well stocked shop and a very good pub.

So much to see in this beautiful area that one week wasn't long enough!
