Beautiful. The cottage is lovingly decorated with everything you might want

  • 4 of 5

Lovely. Its a superb location. Beautiful walks with a local shop within minutes. The whole area is stunning. The owners have taken much care and attention with the little details and touches. With this in mind the only disappointment was the mattress in the bedroom. Its all very well having Egyptian cotton sheets but the mattress in my opinion is cheap and this ultimately affected my sleep and overall stay. This is a personal preference perhaps, so another person may have no issues at all. Everything else was absolutely perfect and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Owner's Response: Whilst we were pleased that you wrote a glowing report, we were disappointed to receive our first ever review of less than 5 stars. To allay any concerns, the mattress, far from being cheap, was actually very expensive. We did extensive research before purchasing as what constitutes a good mattress is very much in the eye of the beholder. The mattress is ziplock, so can be used for twin beds and was purchased from a hotel supplier. I guess we all like something different, but as per our numerous reviews, everything in the cottage is to the very highest standard and is regularly inspected. We are pleased that you were so happy with every other aspect of your stay. Thanks for visiting Dovenby cottage.

Stunning and Modern

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautiful and restful. We walked the Cotswold's Way and used the cottage as a home base. What a wonderful retreat it was for us. The cottage was sparkling clean; all of the appliances were new and well maintained. The owners were welcoming and helpful. We ate at a couple of local pubs and restaurants...but mostly ate early meals at the location of our daily hikes and then drove back to Dovenby, showered and fell exhausted into bed. We especially liked nearby Castle Coombe.

Lovely weekend get away

  • 5 of 5

We had a really lovely weekend break at Dovenby Cottage. It's perfectly situated for easy access to Bath and Castle Coombe, with some nice pubs close by for eating out. It's finished to an incredibly high standard with a well equipped kitchen and cosy living room if you want to stay in. The homemade lemon drizzle cake and bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival were very welcome - thank you! We would highly recommend staying here, and would definately go back again.

Absolutely Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

A stay at Dovenby Cottage is as idyllic as it gets! The location is fantastic; it's tucked away in a quiet beautiful village, but within easy reach of Bath and Bristol.

The interior of the cottage is fantastic, it's beautifully decorated with luxury furnishings and complimentary extras.

Relaxing away from city life in front of the log fire, with a cup of tea and indulging in the home baked lemon drizzle cake is as heavenly as taking time out to soak in the roll top bath in the exquisite bathroom!

The only downside is having to leave!

Cosy, modern spacious cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is perfect for a romantic get away. The facilities are excellent and everything from the bedding to the kitchen equipment is high quality. Justin and Phillipa made us feel very welcome, the thoughtful gifts on arrival set us up nicely. Cottage is in a lovely village. We braved the cold wind and rain for a run to explore the area on the local roads and they were easily quiet enough for us to safely do this, useful option if footpaths are too muddy. Only negative would be that the Internet connection was a bit intermittent when we were there; not a problem for us but if you need to work whilst your away that might not be ideal. And we found the fire a bit tricky but that was probably our ineptitude! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. 2 person bath was amazing!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback regarding the internet. We got this checked out by BT and it turns out there was an intermittent fault causing signal to drop out briefly during the day. All fixed now. The open fire is very popular, but can sometimes be tricky to master. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

The absolute perfect place for a relaxing break !

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was A* perfect for us, spacious enough for two yet cosy and comfortable too. Equipped with everything you could possibly require, and to a very high standard - we were very impressed. Within easy walking distance to Castle Combe's beautiful scenery, and a short drive to amazing places of interest like Bath - you've got it all right on your doorstep. We managed to do so much in our 5 days, yet had adequate time to relax and enjoy the cottage. Highly recommended, thank you so much...we could quite happily move in (if we didn't have to go back to work of course !) !

From the Owner

Built in 1900 as a stable block and tack room Dovenby Cottage has been used to house horses, donkeys, sheep, chickens, carts and even soldiers on leave from WWII. In spring 2013 we lovingly converted it to a cottage of the highest quality, whilst keeping many of its period features. We love this area of the South Cotswolds because whilst being a beautiful part of rural Wiltshire it has great accessibility to a wide range of amenities. We are surrounded by National Trust sites and properties such as Dyrham park, Laycock Abbey and Avebury, plus are very close to Bath and Bristol. One of our favourite things to do at the weekends is to walk to Castle Combe for lunch.

From the Owner

Dovenby Cottage is a lovely place to snuggle up on a cold day. It has underfloor heating throughout, but if you prefer this can be switched off and you can light a log fire. On warmer days you have a garden and patio, with bbq to enjoy. The property is just a minutes walk to the village shop and 20 minutes from an award winning pub. It is a slightly longer walk to famous Castle Combe. Ideally located to venture in to Bath, yet escape the crowds for rural tranquillity at the end of the day.
