Barn in Lascabanes, Lot, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Peaceful location close to the town of Montcuq and very many regional attractions

Set in beautiful rolling countryside, the Barn was converted in 2013 after a two-year restoration project. It is ideal for the perfect getaway, with a large balustrade terrace to embrace the al fresco lifestyle. Steps in front of the partially covered terrace, lead to a private 9.2-metre pool (1.25m deep), roman steps at one end, fenced and gated for complete safety, and with sun loungers and tables. At the other end of the terrace, is a large outdoor table and chairs, covered by a large parasol. The Barn itself is very spacious and cool to relax in. It retains original high beams, has tiled flooring downstairs, wooden laminate upstairs and is fully equipped throughout including wi-fi. The features are light and airy with windows that show the views to advantage. The old part of the Barn houses a full size table tennis table and outdoor games.

About Sue Fraser

The owners, Nick and Sue Fraser, live on the coast of East Yorkshire and wanted somewhere to stay in this beautiful region of France. As soon as they saw The Barn, and the wonderful view, they knew that was where they wanted to be - despite its dilapidated state!

The Barn was renovated by a local builder who has his own property close by. The Barn was ready by the spring of 2013 and already comments from guests have been highly favourable. The village is the perfect antidote to a stressful life; when you sit on the terrace and look out on to the countryside views, the cares and worries of everyday life melt away.

What makes this barn unique

The Barn is far enough away from the bustle of town and city life, yet close enough to a multitude of must-visit attractions such as Figiac, Lauzerte, St Cirq La Popie and many others. However, for those days you want to stay put, we have a 9.1m heated outdoor pool, full size table tennis equipment, library of books and a large garden to keep you occupied in between your rest and relaxation. If you wish to push the boat out, Lascabanes boasts the fabulous restaurant Domaine de St Gery. Highly recommended by Sue and 3 other guests

Outside: Gated and fenced 9.2-metre swimming pool (1.25m deep) that can be heated, with roman steps and paved surround. Large terrace, running the complete length of the Barn - partially covered at one end for protection against the hot sun!- with dining furniture, large parasol, sun loungers and small tables also outside. Separate games barn with full size table tennis table, boules, cricket set, balls and two bicycles. Charcoal BBQ on the terrace. The Barn is perfect for al fresco dining and has the most amazing star-filled clear sky most nights. Large garden suitable for playing games. Wildflower garden that attracts a great variety of birds and butterflies. And deer have been spotted on the hills beyond. Utility Room: Utility room houses a washing machine and clothes horse. Tumble drier housed in the barn and rotary drier outside. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are included in the price apart from outdoor towels that we request you bring yourselves. The Barn is fully cleaned and beds are made up before your arrival. Other: The small sitting room has proved very popular with visitors as a quiet retreat if not used as 5th bedroom. Awesome relaxing venue - idyllic setting

We were a large group of adults and kids and the Barn catered for our needs brilliantly. Super pool area and amenities, a view to die for, and lots of little touches (like a history of how the barn came about, a bottle of local wine on arrival etc) made our stay very special. The location was great, loads of interesting little villages and lovely for cycling around. Weather superb.

A lovely, relaxing holiday in a beautiful location

The barn was the perfect location for our extended family holiday. There was plenty of space for 6 adults and 4 children. Everyone spent time in the pool and evenings were spent outside drinking wine and eating barbecue. The house is well equipped and location is lovely. Well worth a visit.

Wonderful time

The Barn at Lascabanes did not disappoint. The property is set in a idyllic location with glorious views across the small valley and sunflowers everwhere!

The Barn is very comfortable and had all the modcons to allow for a stress free break. The pool was great for our little one and the weather was so good that we could enjoy it every day.

The local village of Montcuq is a delight with a fabulous market and gorgeous eatery at Cafe Du France!

Would thoroughly recommend this barn for a family break!

Fantastic barn, light and airy with stunning views

We have just had 2 weeks in this lovely property. The village is quaint, great place to play boules by the church. The views from the terrace are stunning, the pool well maintained and nice and close to the house. The property is well maintained and clean.

Montcuq had a great Sunday market with some nice quirky shops. Canoeing at St Antonin is a must! Great local vineyard with excellent wines!

Definitely would recommend this property. We had a fantastic relaxing holiday.

A brilliant two weeks

I did it again. Took too many clothes. It did say there was a washing machine and tumble drier, though we did not need the latter as clothes dried on the line faster than the machine washed them. Anyway, it was only shorts, T-shirts and swim wear for the two weeks. We were 8 adults and 3 children on a family holiday celebrating two birthdays (one a special) and two wedding anniversary's. Apart from one celebratory typically French meal at an auberge near St.Cyprien which was a gem of a find (La Grange de Marcillac - which I challenge anybody else to find) we mainly fed 'al fresco' on the patio, including a couple of BBQ's. There was plenty of everything to cope with us all, though the dishwasher may have put in some overtime. Pool polo, table tennis as well as rounders and cricket on the field kept us happily actively engaged. All equipment provided. Some of the more active took runs and walks around the rural landscape. We split for trips to Cahors, Lauzert and the amazing medieval village of St.Cirq Lapopie on the Lot, though we all went to the amazing Sunday morning market at nearby Montcuq and subsequent feast for lunch. Although we mainly 'lived' outside, there was the television that only became of interest to some when the Olympics started and were able to select the sports that were of interest. A bonus was that we were there when the surrounding fields were full of sunflowers in bloom. As a close knit family this was the ideal holiday for us all, and we all fitted in thanks to the provision of z-beds...although one decided to opt for her tent on the field so she didn't have to persevere with her brothers snoring!

Simply stunning

I visited The Barn from 7th to the 13th June 2016 we had a delightful seven days!

The Barn is a beautiful place to relax and unwind, it is a stunning open space with great proportions. The layout of the whole space worked really well for us, The Barn is equipped to cater for all or one, with large seating and internal dining areas to gather family and friends, plus a number of smaller intimate areas to give you that "me time". The layout to one side has a very clever inner apartment giving some real privacy from the rest of the space.

It has a great kitchen which is really very well equipped, everything you need, a home from home, so long as you know how to "jiggle" the dishwasher to get it to start. A separate utility, laundry room leads to a great little downstairs shower room complete with sink and toilet.

The stunning internal space is matched by a superb view across the valley, my only regret is that we were a little too early for the Sunflowers.....maybe next year x in the meantime I will dream of those large open fields filled with tall bright yellow flowers.

Whilst Lascabanes is quiet we found plenty going and I was a little sorry not to have managed to read/open any of the books available although I know some of the others got through quite a few.

Sightseeing here is a must. Montcuq the boulangerie and the beach/lake, the most perfect lunch Toulouse sausage in the picturesque artist square at Lauzert. A town tour of Cahors on the mini train in the rain!

Check out the "The Tourist Information Centre" at Moncuq for all the latest "goings on"

An evenings entertainment live music at the Maison de Maire in indoor garden party great fun....not at all dampened by the rain and made all the more special with "The barns very own picnic hamper". Then onto the fabulous Saint-Cirq-Lapopie possibly one of the most beautiful villages in the world, La Lonnelle Bar-Brasserie serves a mighty Magret du Canard with fries to die for. This quaint little village with umpteen local artisan shops offering the most beautiful range of gifts and galleries, is a lovely day out. A stunning evenings choral music at The Eglise Saint-Hilaire was a special find. Montcuq market is a must on a Sunday morning serving the largest loaves in the world and the best ever crepes, not to mention nougat, truffles and the freshest vegetables all straight out of the fields.Just time to mention the heated pool, great gardens, perfect patio.....a gem of a place!

Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

The area is popular with walkers and cyclists as well as visitors by car. The Tour de France passed through L'Hospitalet in 2012 (10 mins from Lascabanes).

Many visitor attractions are within a short drive, such as the beautiful medieval towns of St Cirq Lapopie, Lauzerte, Figeac and Prayssac

The town of Cahors, situated on the beautiful Lot River offers many attractions including an unmissable boat trip.

For days spent in Lascabanes, the village is ideally suited to the painter, or writer, or reader who just wants peace and quiet.


Le Plan d'Eau near to Montcuq offers a swimming lake and man-made beach. It is used by local families and has a lifeguard during July and August. The Pizzaria du Lac, overlooking the water, is also open July and August.

Please contact us if you wish to make a booking giving the dates you want, the number in your party (and number of children) and your contact details. If the dates are free, I will send our Rental Terms and booking form. If all is agreeable, all you do is sign the form, return to me (via e-mail) and pay a deposit of £250 to the account given. The balance (plus £250 security deposit is required a month before you arrive.

Changeover Day:
Bookings are taken Saturday to Saturday, with a minimum one week stay (this may be flexible out of season).
Guests should arrive after 4:30pm and leave by 10am to allow for cleaning and changeover.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
