Absolutely Wonderful Location

  • 5 of 5

Megan's Lodge was all that we could ask for to the point that we extended our stay for a few extra days. The location was perfect as were the amenities provided by the owner. We were really impressed with the quality and high standard of cleanliness of the living area and sleeping accommodation as well as the excellent kitchen and bathroom facilities. Parking was secure and we would highly recommend this property to any couple who wished to establish a base in order to explore the delights of Devon and Cornwall. Our host was so helpful and kind and nothing was too much for her to provide. This even stretched to a bottle of wine ready for our arrival together with a marvelous Devon cream tea. We had the opportunity to either eat out at several delightful restaurants in the local area or stay in and prepare meals for ourselves. There was even a washing machine in the property which allowed us to keep up with our laundry. The host had also included dishwasher tablets for the dishwasher and tea and coffee supplies. So we were totally independent however knew that we were able to have the option to go out to visit the area or stay in and watch TV or play music on the CD player if the weather was too bad. What more could you ask for especially as the lovely old market town of Holsworthy even had a Waitrose supermarket as well as shops selling local produce. As for the access to the beautiful counties of Devon and Cornwall it was only a short drive to the Cornish resort at Bude or the wildness of either Dartmoor or Bodmin Moor. If you wished to travel further afield then the cities of Plymouth, Exeter and Truro were within easy striking distance. As a result of our wonderful experience we will certainly be recommending Megan's Lodge to our family and friends.

A truly superb, well equipped holiday home for couples!

  • 5 of 5

Megan's lodge is the perfect holiday home for couples wanting to explore Devon and Cornwall. The property itself is flawless; spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, cosy and with everything you could possibly need provided. We really appreciated all of the thoughtful little touches Ann provided (including the wine and cream tea we found on our arrival!) The kitchen was better equipped than our own at home, the shower was always hot and powerful and we loved the cosy bedroom with its extremely comfortable 6ft bed and sloped ceilings (although make sure you watch your heads!) We were able to make full use of the charcoal BBQ at the front of the property; all of the necessary utensils were provided. The sheltered seating area is a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine after a day exploring the surrounding areas. Ann is a lovely host- she welcomed us on arrival, gave us the keys and talked us through a few essential things about the lodge. Even though the property is on the same grounds as her house, we were then left to enjoy our holiday in private, although we knew we could call on Ann if we needed anything. There's not much to see or do in Holsworthy itself so a car is necessary for getting out and about. Lots of lovely places to visit within an hour's drive. We particularly liked Bude. We would thoroughly recommend having a meal at the Rydon Inn, which is just outside Holsworthy (£6 in a taxi- Parker's Cars)- beautiful setting and lovely food. Despite the poor weather, we had a lovely lovely holiday and we loved stayed in Megan's lodge. If we come to Devon again we will definitely be returning! 5 stars!

Wonderful cottage in South Devon

  • 5 of 5

We've had such a wonderful week in Megan's Lodge, so cosy and comfortable we felt at home right from the beginning. The warm welcome and Devon cream tea were the perfect start for our holiday.

The cottage is very clean and very well maintained. It has everything you could wish for. The kitchen equipment is just unbelievable – Paul Bocuse couldn’t ask for more.

All rooms are beautifully decorated, everything is of high quality (including the very, very comfortable beds).

For our day trips to the coast and Dartmoor Megan’s Lodge was the perfect base. Many great places are within easy reach: Clovelly (we recommend to go early in the morning), Tintagel, Morwenstow, Bude, wonderful beaches, Boscastle, Tavistock, Dartmoor, and many more.

You will find maps covering the region in the cottage.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay and would like to come back. We will recommend Megan’s Lodge to our family and friends. Thank you, Ann, you are far and away the best host, you made our stay really pleasant.

Megans Lodge, Holsworthy

  • 5 of 5

The lodge is a small but perfectly formed holiday home in the grounds of the owners property.

It has outside space, where you can sit and there is a barbeque provided and parking for your car

There is an electric entrance gate which provides security and privacy.

The lodge itself is presented to the holidaymaker as a home from home. All of the white goods and hob and oven are top quality and well looked after as indeed is the rest of the lodge. Everything was clean and the bathroom has a fabulous shower, there was always plenty of hot water.

The bedroom is large and has a 6ft bed, which I believe can be converted to separate 3ft single beds. It is comfortable and has top quality line. It also has a TV.

The small town of Holsworthy is pleasant with several nice pubs where food can be enjoyed. There is also a Waitrose supermarket there and a Co-op in the High Street.

The bus service is quite good which runs from opposite the church and goes to Bude, Bideford, Barnstaple and Exeter to name a few, with good connections in Barnstaple to Ilfracombe. Stagecoach offer day rider tickets for £3.90 per adult for a days travel throughout North Devon, which is remarkable value for money.

All in all, a quite delightful property, with good services within walking distance, although there is no path for a mile or so, however, the road is not very busy.
