looking forward to our tenth stay at Tamarack.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Tamarack for our ninth spring week this year.

The lodge is very disability friendly and plenty of spaces for up to 12 persons, although some would be on fold-out beds (8 for 'normal' beds, 6 is probably the 'downstairs' limit for people with mobility issues, with 2+ carers sleeping upstairs). As well as being spacious, it is well equipped and set out, with a separate bathroom for the upstairs bedroom, wet room for the twin bedroom downstairs and an en-suite for the main downstairs bedroom. There is a log burner stove. we turn the underfloor oil-fired heating right down or off and rely mainly on the log fire in the evenings. Very comfy.

The location is very secluded but easily accessed. The Holman and York inns are a couple of miles away, as is the community shop in Churchinford.

The area is very pretty, with plenty of walking paths and accessible open spaces. The area is quite hilly, but there are plenty of 'flat' walks possible nearby, including Otterford lakes, Chard wildlife reserve, etc.. Or, drive to one of the coasts 20 or so miles away, or one of many National trust or private tourist properties.

The lodge fits in very well with the surroundings, convenient, tidy and clean, without going overboard. Be adventurous or just laze around, this is a very special place. The owner is friendly. The lodge was designed by the owners brother, a qualified architect with wheelchair needs, so anybody in a wheelchair will find the raised fridge and freezer, legroom under the sinks and work surfaces, wetroom, etc. very accessible.

An amazing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a week at Tamarack Lodge .. we took 3 X 90 year olds and we are mid sixties ... it had everything we needed .. very comfortable beds .. important .. all the hot water you need .. dishwasher ... good oven and hob cooking a Sunday Roast was as easy as home .. .. comfortable lounge seating area very large TV ... such a quiet tranquil setting .. lots of outside space .... A little remote but with a car its no problem and really good pubs nearby especially The Holman Clavell ..which is a dining experience .... sitting eating at the very large dining table at Tamarack Lodge is good ...

To sum this property up and our holiday 1st class ... excellent for disabled people and wheelchairs lots of space to move around ... Excellent Wifi also very important ..

Beautiful peaceful lodge

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Tamarack Lodge for a 3day hen weekend and had such a lovely time. It helped that the weather was as beautiful as the lodge as we were able to make full use of the bbq, veranda and outside space but I'm sure the stay would have been just as enjoyable if we had to stay indoors. The interior is spacious and the wooden detailing everywhere was lovely!

I'd highly recommend staying here with a group of friends or family - there were 10 of us and it didn't feel at all cramped and we didn't run out of hot water (even with 10 girls all washing their hair!)

You do need a car if you're wanting to go out anywhere but the lodge has enough to offer on its own on my opinion - I'd happily move in tomorrow and stay for good!
