The ancient original door has been preserved complete with the lock and the key the size of which does not fail to amaze the visitors every time. Many vineyards are waiting to be explored. Most of them offer wine tasting and sell their produce at bargain prices. St Emilion with its charming cobbled streets and exceptional wines is just 20 minutes away. Canoeing, fishing and riding are popular activities alongside sports such as tennis and an excellent golf club is only 20 minutes away. Our local market (Sainte Foy La Grande) has been voted the people's favourite market in France.

We have three gorgeous independent and entirely private cottages available. They are called Kiwi, Wisteria and Hazelnut cottages. All three are full of charm, fully equipped with quality appliances, decorated to high specification and comfortable. About Caspian Flynn

Caspian was brought up in Germany, Lulu was brought up in Cyprus and Jeffery (our chocolate labrador) is a Welsh boy and we all found a most beautiful home in the South of France. Caspian is a Chartered Engineer by background and has worked for corporations in Germany and England. Lulu is a qualified biology teacher and as a second career she also worked for a large pharmaceutical company in England for many years. We have many friends here locally and also internationally and enjoy their company whenever we can.

Why Caspian Flynn chose Vélines

The fact that we already had many local friends around Bordeaux was an important factor for us to choose the vineyards of Bordeaux as our home. This combined with romantic vineyards, pretty villages, enjoyable towns, easy airport connections and the friendly locals made the task of choosing a home in this region simple for us.

What makes this cottage unique

The completely renovated Maison de Maitre (Manor House) dating back to the 16th century and giving one a sense of history, the beautifully lit pool area at night and the well laid out park make La Gorce a memorable experience. Its architecture oozes the charm one would expect of such an historic property.

Notes on accommodation: Bed linen will be provided with a weekly change. Towels for showering are included and additional separate towels for use by the pool too. There is wifi in all three cottages. Outside: For relaxing, a perfect place would be the large (12m x 6m) heated swimming pool (1.5m deep). The swimming pool enjoys views over the surrounding vineyards, countryside and the many fruit and nut rees ( when in season pick as many as you want). The pool area is secured by an electric security cover, which keeps the heat in and the leaves out. If you would like to entertain a group of friends or family, there's the 50 m2 pool house with summer kitchen and covered dining area. The property is beautifully floodlit, extending one's enjoyment of the long evenings into the night. This includes the swimming pool area and the pool itself. In the well equipped summer kitchen you'll find everything you need to present your guests a memorable meal. A 5-ring gas hob, fridge-freezer and 1½ bowl sink with both hot and cold water makes cooking easy.

Just perfect!

This stone cottage is beautiful, spacious with high ceilings, and it always felt airey and cool. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay..dishwasher, washing machine and drier, wifi, TV. The icing on the cake was the lovely heated pool and pool house surrounded by quiet vines. Quite frankly I could have sat here for a week without moving. However if you do move there is plenty to do, the cottage is a short drive from the vineyards at St Emilion and Bergerac, and there is a train into Bordeaux. Great little spot! Our host Caspian was charming and thoughtful. We will definitely be back.

We have recently returned from our stay at La Gorce with our two children (14 and 9). We stayed in the Hazelnut cottage which was absolutely perfect. The gardens and the pool area gave the children the freedom to roam around and play safely. The hosts, Lulu and Caspian were superb, often around to offer advice and a friendly chat without being too conspicuous. The area is rural and peaceful with a couple of bars and restaurants only a few minutes drive away. A car is a must to enable you to visit some of the beautiful towns in the area. We would certainly consider another stay here, we felt so comfortable it was a drag to come home. Thank you Lulu and Caspian.

Another tremendous holiday

Second time here for us and this time with our baby staying in the bigger gite. We had such a wonderful time two years ago that going back could have been a risk but we were not disappointed. Wonderful quiet setting with great facilities. Warm and generous hosts.

Great find

  • 5 of 5

What can I say about this property it was a gem in Bordeaux. Right from the beginning Caspian was easy to deal with, and when we arrived he was there to meet us with a smile. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable, with all the appliances that you need and all in very good condition. The setting was amazing right in amongst the vineyards, and the pool was well maintained, just what you need after a hot day out. I could not fault this property at all. And I would highly recommend it if you plan to visit the area.

Wonderfully relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful relaxing fortnight ( family of 4, 2 girls age 10 & 12) Accommodation is top notch with great facilities in very peaceful surroundings. Pool is a good size, about 14m x 7m ish, plenty of room on the grounds for playing tennis/French cricket etc. Canoeing & bike hire are only a mile away, lots of charming villages a short bike ride away. Caspian & Lulu are very helpful & friendly. Definitely recommend it.
