A completely renovated Maison de Maitre dating back to the 16th century oozing architectural features, charm and comfort. The ancient original door has been preserved complete with the lock and the key the size of which does not fail to amaze the visitors every time. Many vineyards are waiting to be explored. Most of them offer wine tasting and sell their produce at bargain prices. St Emilion with its charming cobbled streets and exceptional wines is just 20 minutes away. The River Dordogne is just a 15 minute walk from the house and there are many pleasant spots to walk and cycle along the riverbanks. Canoeing, fishing and riding are popular activities alongside sports such as tennis and an excellent golf club is only 20 minutes away. Our local market (Sainte Foy La Grande) has been voted the peoples favourite market in France.
We have three gorgeous independent and entirely private cottages available. They are called Kiwi, Wisteria and Hazelnut cottages. All three are full of charm, fully equipped with quality appliances, decorated to high specification and comfortable. They are complemented with a park of one hectare and a heated pool of 12mX6m with pool house and Summer kitchen.
Caspian was brought up in Germany, Lulu was brought up in Cyprus and Jeffery (our chocolate labrador) is a Welsh boy and we all found a most beautiful home in the South of France. Caspian is a Chartered Engineer by background and has worked for corporations in Germany and England. Lulu is a qualified biology teacher and as a second career she also worked for a large pharmaceutical company in England for many years. We have many friends here locally and also internationally and enjoy their company whenever we can.
The fact that we already had many local friends around Bordeaux was an important factor for us to choose the vineyards of Bordeaux as our home. This combined with romantic vineyards, pretty villages, enjoyable towns, easy airport connections and the friendly locals made the task of choosing a home in this region simple for us.
The completely renovated Maison de Maitre (Manor House) dating back to the 16th century and giving one a sense of history, the beautifully lit pool area at night and the well laid out park make La Gorce a memorable experience. Its architecture oozes the charm one would expect of such an historic property.
Had a wonderful relaxing fortnight ( family of 4, 2 girls age 10 & 12) Accommodation is top notch with great facilities in very peaceful surroundings. Pool is a good size, about 14m x 7m ish, plenty of room on the grounds for playing tennis/French cricket etc. Canoeing & bike hire are only a mile away, lots of charming villages a short bike ride away. Caspian & Lulu are very helpful & friendly. Definitely recommend it.
Fantastic holiday cottage with great hosts, Caspian, Lulu, and Geoffrey the brown lab! The cleanest pool I have ever seen, perfect size and depth (our nine year old daughter seemed to live in it!), with the added luxury of an outside kitchen with a fridge to keep drinks chilled, and a sofa to relax upon.
Loads to see and do close by, rowing on The Dordogne, the market of Sainte Foy, St Emilion, Bergerac, too much for one week, so we will have to return. Really well appointed and beautifully quiet accommodation, cannot recommend highly enough!
We have just returned from a fantastic week at Hazlenut cottage. We were greeted warmly by the owners Caspian & Lulu, who throughout our stay were so kind, friendly & helpful. The location is superb, surrounded by vineyards, such a tranquil setting. Ideally situated for visiting many beautiful places in the Dordogne. A supermarket is 2 minutes drive away as is the stunning Dordogne river. We took our road bikes & the small quiet roads around La Gorce were absolutely perfect for cycling. Caspian had left a complimentary bottle of red wine on the dining table for our arrival. The cottage itself was a very high standard & immaculately clean. The inside was stunning including beautiful pieces of furniture. Our patio area had a barbecue, so many evenings were spent barbecuing meats bought at the local butcher & enjoying the peace & quiet with a glass of wine. The pool was an absolute joy, kept beautifully clean, & made our holiday! We never once shared the pool with other guests, so this was super, like having your own private pool! I cannot recommend this cottage enough, it's fantastic! The owners Caspian, Lulu & their wonderful dog Geoffrey play a great part in the success of a holiday here as they made us feel totally at home & relaxed in what is their home. We have fallen in love with La Gorce & of course, Geoffrey the lovely Labrador too!!
Fantastic property in a great location with extremely helpful owners always available. Would recommend to anyone and hope to return next year.
We would highly recommend this property for anyone thinking about planning a holiday. It was ideal for visiting some great places such as Bordeaux, St Emilion, Bergerac or the vibrant market of Sainte-Foy. Or if on the other hand you want to relax by the pool, or enjoy a day splashing about on the Dordogne its also just about perfect,
The accommodation is very clean and modern, but with plenty of the original buildings on show with the exposed brick walls.
Caspian is a great host and is always available to advise and recommend local restaurants or great days out,
We gave our holiday 10 out of 10, and would not hesitate in returning to this great location
We are reluctant to share our experience and we like to keep this Gem for ourselves. However, we must be fair and review our stay at La Gorce.
The property is furnished to a high specification,it is a true home from home. Tastefully decorated and equipped to a high standard.
The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, often going above and beyond !
The location offers easy access to the local towns and is surrounded by Vineyards. The pictures offer a true representation of the property and possibly do not do it justice.
We booked for next year within 2 days of our stay which speaks volumes.
We could not recommend the properties more highly and are already looking forward to next year.
