About Caspian Flynn

Caspian was brought up in Germany, Lulu was brought up in Cyprus and Jeffery (our chocolate labrador) is a Welsh boy and we all found a most beautiful home in the South of France. Caspian is a Chartered Engineer by background and has worked for corporations in Germany and England. Lulu is a qualified biology teacher and as a second career she also worked for a large pharmaceutical company in England for many years. We have many friends here locally and also internationally and enjoy their company whenever we can.

Why Caspian Flynn chose Vélines

The fact that we already had many local friends around Bordeaux was an important factor for us to choose the vineyards of Bordeaux as our home. This combined with romantic vineyards, pretty villages, enjoyable towns, easy airport connections and the friendly locals made the task of choosing a home in this region simple for us.

What makes this cottage unique

The completely renovated Maison de Maitre (Manor House) dating back to the 16th century and giving one a sense of history, the beautifully lit pool area at night and the well laid out park make La Gorce a memorable experience. Its architecture oozes the charm one would expect of such an historic property.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Bed linen will be provided with a weekly change. Towels for showering are included and additional separate towels for use by the pool too. There is wifi in all three cottages. Outside: For relaxing, a perfect place would be the large (12m x 6m) heated swimming pool (1.5m deep). The swimming pool enjoys views over the surrounding vineyards, countryside and the many fruit and nut rees ( when in season pick as many as you want). The pool area is secured by an electric security cover, which keeps the heat in and the leaves out. If you would like to entertain a group of friends or family, there's the 50 m2 pool house with summer kitchen and covered dining area. The property is beautifully floodlit, extending one's enjoyment of the long evenings into the night. This includes the swimming pool area and the pool itself. In the well equipped summer kitchen you'll find everything you need to present your guests a memorable meal. A 5-ring gas hob, fridge-freezer, microwave and 1½ bowl sink with both hot and cold water makes cooking easy.

FANTASTIC HOLIDAY..

  • 5 of 5

Caspian and Lulu, we're fantastic hosts , they gave great advice regarding the area, informed us of wonderful nights out to night markets , jazz night /days, and we intruded to some lovely friends of Caspian and Lulu. Fabulous places to see within the area, they we're so happy to help nothing seemed to much trouble.

The gite we stayed in was Gorgeous and they we're both so lovely putting up with our little noisy dog , Izzy.

The Manor house , gite and cottages are lovely, the grounds and swimming pool are beautiful could not ask for anything else wonderful holiday and we will differently stay again, i've already recommend it to friends.

I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU TO CASPIAN AND LULU. For such a Fantastic Holiday.

La Gorce is Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Caspian & Lulu get everything right on every level! They are excellent hosts and La Gorce does not disappoint. They could not have been more helpful, friendly and accommodating and made us feel more like we were staying with friends rather than renting a gite. They made many recommendations for local food and markets and each one lived up to expectations.

The whole property is immaculate - we stayed in Wisteria Cottage and found it large, comfortable and very well appointed. The air conditioning was a bonus as we experienced very hot conditions during our stay.

la Gorce is set in its own extensive gardens which are maintained to a very high standard including the fabulous pool area. It proved ideal for our dog to run around safely & freely (at times!) To say La Gorce is 'dog friendly' would be an understatement, Jeffrey (Caspian and Lulu's dog) even popped in every morning to make sure all was well. He is an added attraction at La Gorce and an important member of the team!

Caspian and Lulu could not have done more to make our stay so wonderful. We would highly recommend La Gorce and will certainly be returning.

A beautifully presented property with charming, helpful and friendly owners.

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic holiday cottage. The cottage was furnished and equiped to the highest standard we have ever experienced, everything had been thought of.

It was absolutely spotless and everything worked, it is clear that the owners had taken the time to actually live in the cottage to ensure nothing was missing.

As for Caspian and Lulu the owners, what can I say, they were warm, friendly and generous, checking daily to see if there was anything they could help with and offering excellent advice, all without being intrusive.

We selected the cottage because it was dog friendly and yes this was exactly right, even the owners dog Geoffery was happy to see new friends.

Set in the middle of a vineyard, the cottage offered a tranquill escape from modern life, especially sitting around the lovely swimming pool in the evening enjoing the excellent local wine with the other guests and the owners.

As a base for visiting Bordeaux, Bergerac, Sarlat etc it is excellent. Do try and visit the local market at Sainte Foy la Grande where the whole town turns out for this lovely Fench Saturday morning social event and the first Sunday in the month in Bourdeax when they close the streets to traffic so the tourists can enjoy the city at its best.

What a holiday, thank you Caspian and Lulu, you fully deserve your 5 stars.

Clive & Joanna.

Absolutely brilliant

  • 5 of 5

The property was everything we expected.

The one bedroom Wisteria cottage was air-conditioned and had UK satellite TV and wifi. The lounge was well furnished with a integral kitchen. There was a dining table and breakfast bar.

The shower was great and there was a washing machine.

The grounds are beautifully kept and are surrounded by vineyards.

The swimming pool was immaculate and the "summer" kitchen was a added bonus.

Caspian and Lulu made us very welcome, including our small Bedlington Terrier Dolly. It was doggy heaven!

There are several excellent restaurants in the area and shops nearby.

We really enjoyed sitting outside under the wisteria tree.

Definitely a place to return to!!

A restful place among the vineyards

  • 4 of 5

We loved our time in Wisteria Cottage. Caspian and Lulu were the perfect hosts. They couldn't have been more helpful or more friendly. They even moved a heavy sofa bed into the property so that our 17 year old son could have his own space. We also enjoyed the company of Geoffrey the chocolate labrador. The rest of the property is v spacious - we hardly saw the other guests at all! The pool was large, really well looked after and with beautiful surroundings. There is lots to do in the surrounding areas; beautiful towns like Bergerac and St Emilion. We especially loved the night markets (there's one on every night) and cycling along the Dordogne. Heartily recommend this property for a restful break.
