The ancient original door has been preserved complete with the lock and the key the size of which does not fail to amaze the visitors every time. Many vineyards are waiting to be explored. Most of them offer wine tasting and sell their produce at bargain prices. St Emilion with its charming cobbled streets and exceptional wines is just 20 minutes away. The River Dordogne is just 0.4 km from the house and there are many pleasant spots to walk and cycle along the riverbanks. Canoeing, fishing and riding are popular activities alongside sports such as tennis and an excellent golf club is only 20 minutes away. Our local market (Sainte Foy La Grande) has been voted the people's favourite market in France.

We have three gorgeous independent and entirely private cottages available. They are called Kiwi, Wisteria and Hazelnut cottages. All three are full of charm, fully equipped with quality appliances, decorated to high specification and comfortable. They are complemented with a park of two acres and a heated pool of 12mX6m with pool house and Summer kitchen.

About Caspian Flynn

Caspian was brought up in Germany, Lulu was brought up in Cyprus and Jeffery (our chocolate labrador) is a Welsh boy and we all found a most beautiful home in the South of France. Caspian is a Chartered Engineer by background and has worked for corporations in Germany and England. Lulu is a qualified biology teacher and as a second career she also worked for a large pharmaceutical company in England for many years. We have many friends here locally and also internationally and enjoy their company whenever we can.

Why Caspian Flynn chose Perigord Pourpre

The fact that we already had many local friends around Bordeaux was an important factor for us to choose the vineyards of Bordeaux as our home. This combined with romantic vineyards, pretty villages, enjoyable towns, easy airport connections and the friendly locals made the task of choosing a home in this region simple for us.

What makes this cottage unique

The completely renovated Maison de Maitre (Manor House) dating back to the 16th century and giving one a sense of history, the beautifully lit pool area at night and the well laid out park make La Gorce a memorable experience. Its architecture oozes the charm one would expect of such an historic property.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stumbled across the website by chance and are so pleased that we booked! We have just returned from an idyllic week chillaxing by the pool and exploring the surrounding villages. The cottage was fully equipped and the kitchen by the pool was used on a daily basis. Caspian and Lulu were delightful hosts and wouldn't hesitate to return tomorrow

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Bed linen will be provided with a weekly change. Towels for showering are included and additional separate towels for use by the pool too. There is wifi in all three cottages. Outside: For relaxing, a perfect place would be the large (12m x 6m) heated swimming pool (1.5m deep). The swimming pool enjoys views over the surrounding vineyards, countryside and the many fruit and nut rees ( when in season pick as many as you want). The pool area is secured by an electric security cover, which keeps the heat in and the leaves out. If you would like to entertain a group of friends or family, there's the 50 m2 pool house with summer kitchen and covered dining area. The property is beautifully floodlit, extending one's enjoyment of the long evenings into the night. This includes the swimming pool area and the pool itself. In the well equipped summer kitchen you'll find everything you need to present your guests a memorable meal. A 5-ring gas hob, fridge-freezer, microwave and 1½ bowl sink with both hot and cold water makes cooking easy.

Amazing, superb, fantastic. I would definitely stay again. Great hosts and awesome setting. Peaceful

We stayed for a week with our dog, perfect for him to run around. The setting is awesome, the pool great and the accommodation has everything you need to enjoy a home away from home. Our hosts were superb and very friendly, even with our dog chasing them around. I would certainly stay again.

Excellent property, top notch host

  • 5 of 5

After driving 12 hours from Costa Brava, ( due to the Barcelona attack) roads were constantly monitored by security and created "bouchon", (new french word I learned from road signs), we arrived tired and hungry to Le Gorce. Caspian and Lulu were kind enough to share some bread and butter, and wine of course. That was a life saver, once again, thank you very much for having us. The place is in an excellent location, for our plans at least, on the border of Saint Emilion and Dordogne regions, we visited both. You can also reach the coast for oysters, or Bordeaux region. DO expect a lot of traffic during summer, so if gps tells you 1 hour, double that. I cannot recommend enough this place. Have fun

Blissful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Kiwi Cottage and wished we had been there longer! Cottage was well equipped and so comfortable! We had a fabulous view from our front door! The pool was so inviting and warm! Cottage was in a secluded and peaceful area but provisions were in easy reach! Lovely villages around and about with some fabulous restaurants able to accommodate my food intolerances! Caspian was so friendly but not intrusive and there for advice if needed! Can't wait to return!

Relaxing holiday in the vineyards

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful visit at Kiwi cottage this July. The cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed. The well appointed kitchen had all of the equipment we needed to cook breakfasts and dinners. We loved coming back to the peaceful cottage after a day of sightseeing. The serene view of vineyards and farms makes this cottage a perfect location base to explore local Bordeaux vineyards or take day trips to Dordogne Valley attractions. Caspian, Lulu, and Jeffery (the chocolate lab) were terrific hosts. We loved all of their recommendations for local markets, restaurants, and boulangerie. My husband wanted to stay another week so he can go to the night food market in Saint Foy again! We are still dreaming about the pastries and breads in the local boulangerie in Montcaret. Thank you, Caspian and Lulu, for a wonderful stay! Send our best to Jeffery.

A great stay

  • 5 of 5

It's not often we can give a 5* rating, but this deserves it. The quality of the accommodation was first class, rarely is the actual experience as good as the photos, but this was.

A lovely quiet away from it all location, and yet close to lots of things to do.

Caspian and Lulu were great hosts and happy to offer help and suggestions. A week wasn't nearly enough time to explore all there is to see in the area, so we will be back soon.

Highly Recommended

  • 5 of 5

La Gorce exceeded all of our expectations. We enjoyed this visit so much.... we even extended our stay!

Wisteria cottage is charming, comfortable, spacious and clean. The heated pool, outdoor areas for relaxing and entertaining are especially inviting. We dined with friends one evening 'alfresco' in a picture perfect poolside setting.

St. Emilion, Bordeaux, wine tasting and charming villages are nearby. There are also excellent restaurants in the area.

Proprietors Cass and Lulu have found their niche as warm, gracious and attentive hosts.

Thank you for a wonderful visit! We look forward to returning.
