About Sardinella52

My husband and I are both very excited in welcoming you in our property. We have renovated this old townhouse to the best of our capabilities and we are sure that you will enjoy your stay with us. I am an Architect and have dedicated a lot of time and effort into this restoration venture. Ramon my husband works in insurance and has physically worked hard in the house.

We love travelling and meeting new people.

We will be pleased to always help you and recommend any places of interest, restaurants, etc.. and can offer our help in booking rental cars, transfers or tours.

Sardinella52 purchased this house in 2007

Why Sardinella52 chose Birgu

As it is in the centre of this lovely historical city, with breath taking views and seconds from the waterfront and Valletta.

What makes this house unique

Close to all amenities, places of interest and several bars and restaurants.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent three glorious weeks in this very interesting old property, in fact we enjoyed it so much we booked to return next year before we left. It is ideally situated, close to the friendly shops, Birgu square, and overlooking the Marina and Senglea from the roof terrace. The interior of the house is nicely furnished, and every need was catered for. The 3 Cities we found most interesting, packed with history if so desired. We found it fascinating. There are several good restaurants, a few small bars, regular public transport to other nice areas, and good walking, Valletta is only a 10 minute ferry ride away which in our opinion makes this holiday ideal, quiet and peaceful on one hand, or a hop across to the busy Capital.

Other: Lounge is an old feature room known as the birth room as it was originally connected to the ground floor & reached by a ladder. The room is only 6 courses high which makes it a cosy space to unwind or read a book. There is also a double bed in the room

Wonderful, convenient, home with character!

Exceptional base for exploring the best of Malta. Not only was the home clean and spacious, the location in the middle of Birgu puts you in the best of locations. Very well equipped with everything you need, the hosts have thought of everything to make your stay effortless. Ramon and Karys were wonderfully helpful, and made us feel like old friends providing not only their home, but great directions, maps, and advice on how best to spend our 4 days on Malta. We will return!

Comfortable, Characterful and Convenient.

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable, well-equipped property with everything you need.

Great location in the centre of Birgu and fantastic views from the roof terrace. A traditional house in a mainly residential area.

Close to bus stop and ferry to Valletta for exploring the rest of Malta.

Food shops, bars, restaurants etc close by.

Great hosts, picked us up from the airport and gave us an orientation drive around the area.

This property was recommended to us and we would happily recommend it to others.

  • 5 of 5

In an excellent location on the Vittorosia peninsula. Well stocked mini market underneath and decent restaurants within walking distance from the d’centro with decent food at reasonable price to the Tal Petut which specialises in organically grown food. Very pretty part of townwith easy access to Valletta city centre.

Very clean, almost luxery, great roof top terrace

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this great accomodation from the very first moment when Karys kindly picked us up. We found a nice starter package and more than what we expected - it's completely equipped, almost luxery. Everything was very clean. We loved the awesome view and the nice little breeze at the wonderful roof top terrace.

The accommodation is very well located, you can easily get there by public transport. The bus stop is 2 minutes away and ferry station just around the corner.

Would stay again!

  • 5 of 5

Our trip was perfect, mainly because we stayed at Sardinellla52. The house was very clean and well equipped. The location of the home was convenient. It was steps from the bus stop, a very short walk to the water taxi, not too far to the ferry to Valletta. We bought weekly bus and ferry tickets, which proved to be wise. From Sardinella52 you can get anywhere you want to go using public transportation. We even took a day trip to Gozo. We got the bus from Birgu and took it to the ferry terminal, then we rented a car to sightsee on Gozo, since we had just one day. We would suggest doing the same. We also suggest purchasing a Hertiage Malta Pass, which will get you into all the major attractions on Malta and Gozo. It was well worth it.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, there is an open air market in Birgu, where you can buy fresh vegetables, cheese, olives, etc. We highly recommend taking advantage of this. Tommy's Self Service is right underneath the property, and that was convenient for other things. The restaurant Ta' Petut was a great experience. We suggest making reservations. It's a short walk from the house.

Ramon was very helpful in making our stay successful. He picked us up from the airport and also bought some almond milk, since I am gluten, dairy free, which was very thoughtful. On the way from the airport, he gave us a tour of Birgu, and showed us where to get the bus, ferry, etc. He arranged for a taxi for our return to the airport at the end of our stay, and was available by text for any questions we had.

It was convenient to have a washing machine and WiFi in the house. The views from the rooftop were stunning. If you have looked at the pictures, you know there are two sets of spiral stairs, which are narrow, so take that into consideration when booking. We didn't have an issue with the stairs. They added to the charm of the home. The only suggestions I would make are the following: put a mirror in the walk in closet in the master bedroom, and add an electric drip coffee maker to the utility room on the top floor, along with mugs, because we would have liked to have our morning coffee on the roof top, but carrying mugs of hot coffee up the spiral stairs was a trick.

Neither of these things impacted our stay at all. We would stay here again if we come back to Malta. The cleanliness, charm, and convenience of location made Sardinalla52 a lovely place to stay. We highly recommend.

Vittoriosa is one of the Three Cities with various places of interest and historical places to visit including the Inquisitor's Palace, the Malta Maritime Museum, Couvre de Port, Auberge de France and several churches.

Plenty of activities are held during the year including the famous Feast of the Patron St. Lawrence held every year on the 10th August with the spectacular Notte di San Lorenzo on the eve of the Feast (fireworks from sea). The feast of St. Domenic is also held around the same period. The Birgu Fest is also very famous and held every October where one of the nights is Birgu by Candlelight, which is a magical night not to be missed.

Plenty of other activities during the year include concerts, shows, exhibitions, folk and cultural activities in the Square and along the waterfront. Processions and exhibitions are held during the Christmas, Lent and Easter period.

Both local banks and main Police Station may be found in Cospicua which is the neighbouring city. General stores, pharmacy, doctors' clinic, dentist, etc... may be found in the centre of the city. There is also a local taxi service centrally located.
