About the Owner

I suppose you could say that I needed a change, so I came to Dolo, fell in love with the property and the area, and haven't looked back since! I arrived in 2007 and count myself as being very lucky. I have the peace and tranquillity of the countryside and then, throughout the summer months, there is a wealth of local entertainment and festivities. So much so that I have to keep a diary to make sure that I don't miss the events and I haven't had to do that since the children were growing up! The festivals are very colourful and traditional and are an integral part of life in Brittany. The area is also extremely popular with ramblers and for those who enjoy cycling and fishing. In fact there is something here for everyone!

A great place for a family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Le Chardon for a week in August and had a great time. Our 3 children especially enjoyed the lovely spacious garden and the pool, which was brilliant for the sunny weather we enjoyed. Lynda was an excellent, friendly host - the house was spotless on arrival, and the wine, cheese and tarte au fraise were a lovely touch. Lynda also popped by during the week, at our convenience, to clean the pool. Dolo is a quiet place - even more so during our stay as the boulangerie and restaurant were shut, although the creperie was open - but pleasant enough, and Jugon les Lacs five minutes down the road has more to offer and is an attractive little town. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and Le Chardon is a lovely place to stay for a relaxing time, but if you want to hit the road and explore there is lots to see in the area - Dinan is a must! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Le Chardon.

Lovely cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week. The cottage is pretty, and cool in hot weather which is great. (It also has a huge wood burner for cooler months which we admired but didn't need). Plenty of space and well equipped. The showers are great. The sitting area is especially comfortable and the garden is a sheltered sun trap - with shady areas when you need them. But we spent most of our time out and about.

The local area is beautiful! Full of old buildings and architecture and farms. You don't feel close to the road but we were within easy reach of St Malo and Dinard, Dinan and even Mont St Michel. Ile de Brehat is also well worth a visit - very pretty pink granite and coastline and not busy off the main paths. Our highlight though was the Wakepark almost next door. The guys running it are friendly and speak great English. Their guidance took our kids from never-tried-it to waterskiing and it was just a fun experience (twice).

Dolo and Jugon-les-lacs are very French and friendly. Croissants in Dolo are so much better than most English ones but you have to be there by 9 - the boulangerie in Jugon is open longer and probably bakes again if you miss the first batch.

All in all, a great holiday! Thank you Lynda.

Beautiful country house in beautiful settings

  • 4 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful stay, it was like home from home.

We had use of wifi and free sat English tv. Like I said great.

The kids didn't want to get out of the pool...

Nothing is to far away so if it is a quick shop or visit to the coast everything is easygoing..

Lovely stay at Le Chardon

  • 5 of 5

Just come back from a wonderful two weeks at Le Chardon. A beautiful house in a beautiful area with so much to see and do. We all enjoyed the garden and pool and two weeks of lovely sunshine only added to the general happiness. Lynda was so helpful and kind - proving lots of advice on what to see and do as well as making sure that we had everything we need. Thanks so much and we will be back!

Perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a wonderful, relaxing stay at Le Chardon.

The house and garden were very pretty, and in the perfect location for what we wanted to see. The outside is covered in flowers, and the house is well equipped. We arrived in the evening to french bread, cheeses and wines that Lynda had left for us, which went down very well!

Lynda was the perfect host, very welcoming and on hand for a chat and useful advice about the local area and places to visit further afield.

We fished on the lake at Jugon les Lacs (caught 5 breem) and enjoyed Dolo's Fête de la Musique, held once a year on 21 June, a very French experience! We visited Dinard, where we caught a boat to St Malo which was beautiful, Dinan, a picturesque medieval town and Le Mont St Michel which was just amazing. We also visited the beach at Sables d'Or les Pins, stunning!

We would highly recommend this property, thank you so much Lynda x

From the Owner

Dolo is easily accessible, the double carriageways link all the main towns. The airport at Dinard, and the ferry at St Malo are only 50 mins away. I'm surrounded by farming countryside, cereal crops, mainly barley, maize and rapeseed. A 5 minute walk, past a small lake, takes you into Dolo itself with the essential french bakery, bar and restaurant It's wonderfully quiet and peaceful - heaven on earth when you need a break. On the other hand, if I need entertainment or a bit of culture, then the beautiful medieval city of Dinan, with its half timbered houses, cobbled streets, craft shops, art galleries, restaurants and picturesque port is 20 minutes away, Rennes - the capital of Brittany and Lamballe with the famous Haras (National Stud) are all within easy reach.

Le Chardon is in an idyllic location being only 5 mins from boating lakes at Jugon Les Lacs where you can enjoy numerous activities on land and water, including sailing, canoeing, wind surfing, hiking, mountain biking, archery, mini golf and fishing. On top of all this we now have a fabulous new heated outdoor pool with flume and paddling pool for the toddlers, plus an indoor heated pool and play area with 5 flumes and water games. 3 minutes down the lane from Le Chardon there is a lovely fishing lake, ideal for walking or running. There you will find a climbing frame for the youngsters and zip wire for the older children. The medieval town of Dinan just has to be explored. Only 20 mins away and one of the most visited places in Brittany. Steeped in history (castle with ramparts, cobbled streets, picturesque port with boat trips along to St Malo, 12th century timbered houses, bars and restaurants.) Full of charm and character. You will be within easy travelling distance of the beautiful Brittany coastline with it's numerous beaches and coves. Wonderful scenery, miles of golden sands and charming villages.. Lamballe is the home of the National Stud (Haras) The walled town of St Malo and the smaller Moncontour are worth seeing too. The medieval castle Hunaudaye, with it's wonderful exhibitions, bring the castle to life for young and old and is about 15 mins away. If Golf is your passion, then you will find courses at Pléneuf Val André, Fréhel, St Cast le Guildo to name just a few. I always recommend that my guests visit Mont St Michel, altho it's in Manche but it's only 1hr 45mins away, its worth the effort! There are plenty of things to do in the surrounding area, castles, forts, markets, restaurants, bars, art exhibitions, theatre, festivals in the square at Jugon Les Lacs and in surrounding towns with music, dancing and food. The list is endless and we have a friendly tourist information office in Jugon to help you get the most from your holiday.

Facilities

From the Owner

Jugon Les lacs is 5 minutes away with bars, restaurants and a large lake with water sports and fishing facilities. There's also a heated indoor and outdoor pool with slides etc for the youngsters. The house is 30 mins from the coast which boasts small coves and miles of long sandy beaches, a paradise for all ages. The garden is large and private, surrounded by mature trees, with flowerbeds, shrubs and lawn. There is a good sized orchard and plenty of parking. A good sized above ground swimming pool was added in 2014 and proved very popular with family and guests alike. All this, plus good food and affordable wine - what more could you ask for!! Come and share some of it with me, you will be made most welcome.
