Apartment in Samoens, Haute Savoie, France - Perfect location for the ski lift, the village centre, and the leisure park/grounds

Pas au Loup is in one of the most sought after areas of Samoens. Directly opposite the Grand Massif Express cable car - 100m - you can't get any closer - and only a flat 5 minute walk to the centre of Samoens with its excellent choice of shops, restaurants and services, the location is perfect. A bakery, pizzeria and ski/bike equipment hire shop are also all within 50m. In the Summer, the leisure grounds (outdoor swimming pool, adventure park, lake, playgrounds, tennis etc) are only 200m away. The property benefits from secure underground parking, and ski/bike/equipment storage; and a large private West facing terrace accessed from large French windows.

About the Owner

Now based in Guernsey, Channel Islands, we moved over from London in 2003. We bought the apartment in Samoens on the recommendation of a friend. Samoens is very convenient in terms of driving distance from the ports of Northern France (8hrs) and Geneva airport (1hr). Consequently, it seems to be a favourite for Brits.

Ideal location for the slopes

I booked A5 in this new apartment block as a last minute thing. The vendor was extremely helpful in all his correspondence. We arrived at the rear of the location by the Airport Transfer company as there is no access from the front by vehicle but the place is really fantastic. Its locality to the Bubble is ideal, with a 2 1/2 year old learning to ski its a simple short walk. A ski hire shop is less than 75m away from the apartment so its easily accessed.

The apartment itself is quaint. It has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom which is more than adequate for a small family such as ours and no doubt would have coped with more as there were bunk beds and a sofa bed should we have needed it.

There is a small TV set and satellite TV reception which keeps you in the loop with things back home should you chose to watch UK TV shows. Due to heavy snow, ours did not work, but this made little difference to us.

The kitchenette is ideal for home cooking and has all the accessories needed (except a toaster) we cooked most evenings in the apartment.

The location to the ski lift is ideal, but it is a 900m walk to town, with a small child who tires easily its a bit of a strain, but absolutely worth it when the slopes are so close. Less walking in Ski Boots and more strolling in Snow Boots. We chose the locality to the slopes over the town for this purpose entirely... it suited us.

The place is really nicely decorated, fitted out and fresh...

If holidays for you are a strain, then this is a very good option. I repeat, the vendor is very good at communicating, and rarely does it take more than a couple of hours for communications to be returned with any queries. Its a lovely apartment in a lovely location.

I would most certainly consider leasing this place again... I hope the above helps.

Samoens is a proper medieval French 'town', not just a ski resort. We bought the apartment for that reason. We use the apartment in the Summer holidays and so it was important to us to find somewhere with an all year round 'buzz'.

(Alternative airports - Chambery 125km, Grenoble 180km, Lyon 200km)

By train: Cluses (20km)

Car not essential because of proximity to ski-lift, village centre and leisure park/grounds.
