La Maison Jaune - Comfortable Apartment For Two People

Updated: 17-Aug-2016
Apartment in Rodilhan, Nr. Nimes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Rubbing Shoulders With The Carmargue And Provence

The apartment is cool in summer and warm in winter (there is no charge for central heating). It is perfect for 2 adults (sorry no animals allowed as we have a jealous cat!) and it is situated in a normally quiet residential area 5 minutes from the village centre of Rodilhan. It is a good size (56sq m) for 2 people and consists of a spacious bedroom, a smaller sitting/dining room, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom/toilet. Clients have full use of the garden for relaxing and eating. There is ample on-road parking in a wide tree-lined street.

The village of Rodilhan is situated within the 'Agglo de Nimes', an area which rubs shoulders with Provence and the Camargue. Within a 5 minute walk of the apartment there are 2 bakers, a small grocers, a newsagents, a chemist and a pizza bar.

The location is ideal for visits to the Pont du Gard, Nîmes centre, the Camargue, Avignon, Arles, Orange and the Cevennne mountains. There are 5 UNESCO World Heritage sites within easy reach of the apartment by car. (20 minutes from the Pont du Gard; 30 minutes from Arles and Orange; 40 minutes from Avignon and the Camargue).

About the Owner

La Maison Jaune

It was our dream to retire to France and we made it! We live in a village with about 3,000 inhabitants of all ages, although we are the only English residents. We have a busy social life and lots of French friends.

Neil is bi-lingual, Meg less so but we can both help with any problems that you may need a French speaker to solve.

The last member of the family is Manon, our lovely plump cat who adopted us 5 years ago. She's very shy, so don't worry she won't bother you!

Speaks English, French, German

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your apartment is beautifully thought out and comfortable and you have considered everything a visitor might need. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

Coming here was a real (gin &) tonic! Nîmes is an enchanting city, small enough to walk around but large enough not to be dull. The whole area is brilliant. Meg & Neil made us feel at home and the apartment is perfect for two.

Thank you for a very comfortable and friendly stay in your lovely apartment - and especially for the amazing information pack. We've had a great time exploring this beautiful corner of France.

Liz Norwich, UK

This is a lovely quiet homebase for exploring the sights, sounds and tastes of southern France. The hosts Meg & Neil are friendly and helpful and provide additional information which makes everything more meaningful.

Great apartment with a lovely hostess

  • 5 of 5

We found this apartment through the site and Meg couldn't have been more helpful. The accommodation was comfortable and a nice reprieve from the city hotels we had been using.

Maybe a bit further from sights generally seen but public transport is easily accessible.

We had a car available and found Avignon, Orange,Tarascon, Pont de Gard and the Aquaduct and heaps other really accessible from here.

Good value

Clean and bright apartment

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Maison Jaune and would definitely recommend it to others. It is a bit off the beaten track as far as being in the heart of the city, but certainly offers a nice quiet space to come home to after a busy day sight seeing.

The apartment was clean and spacious. It was great having the kitchen and we used it to prepare some light dinners when we didn't feel like going out after a long day of trekking.

Meg and Neil pput together a wonderful binder full of information on the area and surrounding areas with many suggestions for day trips. This was a very useful tool for us. We heartily recommend this apartment for two. J and M Demontmorency, British Columbia, Canada

Owner's Response: Again many thanks for your review. We are only 10 minutes from the centre of Nimes by bus or car and it is much quieter here than the city! We always appreciate visitors like yourselves who make the most of their stay and visit lots the wonderful surrounding sites. We hope that the rest of your trip goes well. Have a glass of St Emilion for us! Meg and Neil

Perfect apartment

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is on the ground floor of the owners house and situated in a quiet street. A small back garden has table and chairs.

It has everything one could want for daily living. English TV is also provided if required.

The owners had provided information, maps and suggestions on 'places to visit'.

For us it was a perfect location for the camargue, nimes and Arles, etc. not enough days in the week to see everything we wanted.

Highly recommended.

Delightful apartment

  • 5 of 5

A delightful apartment in a peaceful street in a quiet residential village only 10 minutes from the wonderful city of Nimes. It had everything we needed, with a service second to none from the kind owners who lived upstairs. Immaculate presentation, both inside and outside in the lovely garden, which was tended carefully and lovingly. Meg and Neil worked so hard to ensure we had a lovely holiday. Aigues Mortes, Pont du Gard, Uzes, Avignon, Arles and many more historic places are within easy reach, and the coast only an hour away, and Meg and Neil provide extensive advice on the area for all interests and activities. We had a lovely peaceful, though very hot, month here and highly recommend this lovely apartment for a stay of any duration.

This is a case of it is exactly what it says in the information. The apartment has everything you could possibly need for any length of stay. We couldn't have been made more welcome by the owners who live upstairs. It is an easily accessible area very close to Nimes airport, & the area has an abundance of things to do.

From the Owner

The Romans loved this region and so do we. It is surrounded by some wonderful sites including the Camargue, Provence & the Luberon, the Ardèche and the Cevenne mountains. There is so much to see and do: 6 UNESCO sites including the Pont du Gard, Orange & Arles. Roman museums. The wild Camargue beaches. Summer concerts in the Roman arenas and theatres and the famous Festival in Avignon. Local village 'Fête Votives' with bull running and flamenco. You can get away from it all for a quiet walk or picnic in many places but also enjoy being with the crowds to visit local markets and participate in the summer musical evenings.

We rub shoulders with Provence, the Camargue and the Ardeche & Cevenne mountains so there are numerous activities in the locality:

If you want to enjoy the cultural heritage of the area, we provide ideas and maps for days out - an example is:

Drive to St Remy en Provence for the morning market. Take the road into the Alpille mountains and visit Van Gogh's sanatorium (which is still in use today). Continue up the road you will arrive at Glanum, an ancient Roman city. A little further on you will reach Les Baux an incredible medieval village perched high on the Alpilles mountains which gave Dante some ideas for his most famous book.

We are on the edge of the Camargue and we welcome birdwatchers. The Alpille mountains are not far away and this area is also popular with bird watchers. We provide a list of birds that can be seen.

Horse-riding is also one of the main activities on the Camargue and there are several stables near the our village.

There are many walks both long and short and we can provide ideas for hikers.

There is a beach at the Pont du Gard and several more along the river Gardon (20 minutes). Mediterranean beaches can be found at Grau du Roi (45 minutes) and you can take the train from Nîmes for €1 per person. Favourite wild beaches can be found all long the Camargue from Les Saintes Maries de la Mer (45 minutes).

Nimes is 10 minutes away (9 kms) by car or bus (€1 fare).

Orange is 30 minutes on the motorway.

Arles is 30 minutes away.

Avignon is 40 minutes away.

The Mediterranean coast is 45 minutes away.
