About the property

Rural detached villa in Benicolet Nr. Gandia, sleeps 6, private pool, free wifi - Beautiful peaceful location. Blue flag beaches 20 minutes away

Villa Nantuana is a spacious three bedroom, two bathroom villa, all on one level. It has a large, well equipped kitchen, dining room, lounge and a utility room. Outside there is a 10 x 4.5m private pool, pool shower, large pool terrace, large covered terrace and a barbecue area, all set in a 3000 sq m plot with mature fruit trees of various kinds. It is located on a hillside, about 1.5km from the sleepy, very Spanish village of Benicolet. The south-facing views from the terrace encompass the village, the wider valley and mountains about 4km away. If the air is clear you can see for 20 - 30 km up the broad valley to the west, and see the lights of other towns and villages further inland. Despite being very rural, only the last 1.5km to the property is on narrow winding roads. At Benicolet you join the CV610, and about 3km away this joins the motorway standard CV60 which takes you most of the way to the coast. The nearest major town, Gandia, is about 15 - 20 minutes away.

About Alan Ford

We live in Wales and we are approaching semi-retirement age. We own and run a sports business, employing six people.

Our home is 14 acres in the Welsh countryside, on the edge of a small village, with lovely walks on or off our land right on the doorstep.

Alan Ford purchased this villa in 2013

Why Alan Ford chose Valencia Province

We've been looking for a place to semi-retire to in a few years time. The state of the economy in both the UK and Spain said that 2013 was a good time to buy, even though we are not ready to move yet. So we were looking for a place we could call home, not just a place we could buy to let.

As soon as we saw the villa, we both fell in love with it. We fell in love with the privacy, the quietness, the remoteness and the views, as well as the fact that it is a superb villa.

This whole part of Spain is very green, and well looked after. All the fields are well tended and it all looks so good. It is also very Spanish. You go in the local shop and you have to speak Spanish - or find other ways to communicate - as most people speak very little English.

We find this so much nicer.

What makes this villa unique

You get experiences you have never had before -

Looking out from the terrace over the valley at night, watching a series of thunderstorms, both nearby and over 20km away. Hearing the rainstorm approach as it moved down the valley.

Sitting by the pool at dusk, watching the bats doing what bats do, and also dipping to take water from the pool.

Sitting by the pool at dusk, watching the last birds flying to their roosts against a deep red sky, and seeing a large bird - maybe a kestrel - dip down over the pool, almost hover and take a drink.

The sheer quietness. There are only three other villas within 100 metres, and although we cannot guarantee silence, most of the time it is beautifully quiet. No aeroplanes and very little traffic noise.

The privacy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mr M - Sutton Coldfield - 'The bats were amazing - we laughed, screamed and had a ball!'

Mrs I - Cheshire - Ok, first things first. Your advert in no way does this place justice. After 5 minutes the girls were demanding that we book for next year. We knew it looked lovely but it is absolutely stunning. We could move in tomorrow. There is a lovely breeze today and inside it is lovely and cool, no need to even start the air conditioning. I am so grateful that our original villa booking fell through as I can not believe it would touch this one.

Notes on accommodation: Some rooms have fitted aircon, others have portable aircon units or fans. All windows are double glazed and all but one are fitted with mosquito netting. All have closing grids to reflect sunlight during the heat of the day if you are out. Private off-street parking for at least four cars. Children are welcome, but need to be careful. Some pathways around the villa and around the pool are 1m above ground and are not fenced. Much of the outdoor area is tiled and some can be very slippery when wet. Be very careful in the rain and put on footwear as soon as you get out of the pool. Notes will be supplied - where gas bottles are, where switches are for the outdoor lights etc. Satellite-based wifi is available - £3 per night. We do not accept pets. We are mindful of the ever-present high fire risk in Spain, and a recent very serious local bush fire. No smoking is allowed in the villa, or in its grounds. Be very careful if you light a fire or barbecue. Outside: The property is securely fenced on all sides, and the two gates are lockable. We usually do not use the second gate, except for large deliveries. The swimming pool is private, 10m x 4.5m. There are steps at the shallow end; the depth ranges from about 1m to about 2m. The pool is not heated, but in summer the water is about 30 degrees C. We employ Jose to maintain the pool and garden. In summer he visits twice a week for the pool. There is a large barbecue area (8m x 5m), with a chimney and also a portable barbecue. The plot area is about 3000 sq m, which means there's plenty of private space to wander. There is a large pool terrace (12m x 3m), a 5m x 2.5m sun terrace outside the master bedroom, and two joined covered terrace areas outside the villa, overlooking the pool and valley. There are mature gardens with pear, carob, orange, apple, lemon, fig, apricot, walnut and many others. You will see rabbits, bats, unusual birds, lizards and possibly red squirrels and eagles. Utility Room: Gas hot water boiler, washing machine, plus brooms, mops etc (and a couple of umbrellas!). Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are included, though towels should not be used for sun bathing. The property is cleaned prior to each let. For clients staying for more than one week, extra cleaning visits can be arranged in advance at extra cost.

What a fantastic villa in a beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

This is an extremely spacious villa with a lovely outlook. We, (4 adults), enjoyed a fantastic week mid September with hot daytime temperatures. It was a pleasure to dine on the veranda in the evenings and enjoy a chilled glass of wine. Fabulous!

We thoroughly enjoyed regular cooling dips in the generously sized pool, followed by further relaxation on sun loungers close by. The garden grounds were substantial and we did pick a couple of lemons from the trees to slice for our G & Ts.

The accommodation inside the villa was perfect for our group with large bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we required to cook and cater for ourselves. The fridge with ice dispenser was particularly appreciated. We enjoyed the adventure of identifying which switches operated what lights and came to terms with them fairly quickly. 😃򐰊

We successfully shopped for all our provisions in the local villages, despite our poor grasp of Spanish, and found that prices were very, very reasonable.

All in all we had a wonderful holiday, thoroughly relaxing, and even experienced a night time storm with lightening over the mountains which was spectacular.

For a chilling, relaxing holiday away for the hustle and bustle of typical tourist areas, I would highly recommend this property.

Thanks to Alan for his help before and during our holiday. We were able to have a late check out as we had late flights so that was really useful.

Perfect Views, Great Pool and a Home Away From Home!

  • 5 of 5

The Villa is in a great location, between Valencia & Alicante and worth the drive. Not too far from civilisation, but remote enough to make it perfect for a relaxing family holiday.

We are a family of 5 (kids 12, 10 & 8yrs) and we struggled to drag them away from the good sized and well maintained pool. The accommodation is great, good sized well equipped kitchen, big dinning room table and chairs, leather sofas in living room and bedrooms well decorated and comfy beds. Good sized shaded outdoor area.

The fridge/freezer in the kitchen is massive, double doored and the ice maker was well used.

BBQ outside which was used almost everyday and good quality hob and oven in the kitchen for non BBQ meals!

Overall, we couldn't fault the Villa, so much so that the Mrs said "it's the 1st Villa she had been to that she would be happy to live there full time!"

Just working out our holiday dates for next year to rebook, which is a 1st!

It's got it all!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our two wonderful weeks in August 2016 with our 15 & 17 year olds. The house is large, plenty of space both indoors and outside. The garden is well laid out, and there is plenty of sun and shade at any time of day. The house is clean and very well maintained. The pool is a good size and deep enough for diving and kept our teenagers fully entertained for the fortnight! It's easy to keep the house cool with the shutters and there's air con if needed (we hardly used it). Comfortable seating & beds, really great showers, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen and a selection of jigsaws, books & DVDs. TV worked well for us as we stayed during the Olympics & had all UK channels. Wifi is good throughout the house & garden and we had full mobile signal. The views are simply beautiful, this is a lovely area of Spain.

Having stayed in a number of rural properties in Spain, we particularly enjoyed the fact that it's a 'proper road' right up to the property - no dirt tracks for the last 10 minutes of your journey as can often be the case!!! The house is only a few kilometres from main routes and very easy to get to, having said that it's far enough away from roads so there is no noise or disturbance at the property.

There's plenty to do, we particularly enjoyed the markets in local villages, castle at Xativa, the Borja Palace in Gandia and the beach at Piles (20 mins or so) which was fairly quiet, backdrop of sand-dunes, very clean, lifeguards and toilets, the shallow sea was beautifully warm and crystal clear. There are plenty of supermarkets within an easy drive (all closed Sunday as is usual in Spain).

We would certainly recommend it!

Spacious villa, pristine pool, splendid views

  • 4 of 5

Clean and functional house, well-equipped kitchen. Cleanest pool of any holiday rental we have ever seen! Nice elevated position with mountain views.

Some noise from nearby Spanish neighbours and their dogs, but peaceful for the most part.

Helpful and prompt local management service (English speaking).

Xativa 50km away inland has a stunning castle, €2.40 entrance fee and a nice terrace bar. Javea, 50km away on the coast for nice quiet beach and restaurants.

We would definitely recommend this villa and hope to stay there again some day.

Enjoyed a wonderful 10 days at this lovely villa. It is extremely comfortable with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is well equipped with loads of fridge space. The bathrooms are modern with terrific showers. The pool was a real treat with a great view across to the mountains whilst you swim. It was large and deep enough for our 3 teenage kids to dive and race each other. We used the bbq terrace several times during our stay - there is loads of outdoor space with some really interesting trees around the garden. A day out at Aquopolis Water Park about 45 mins away was great fun. We also spent a day in Valencia (just over an hour) - the historic area was beautiful. All in all a memorable holiday.

Great Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful villa in a great peaceful location.

Clean, well laid out and very welcoming the villa is set up high with stunning views. Outside the pool is great fun and the nights sat outside taking in the peaceful starry nights are worth the trip alone.

All the rooms are well sized and have air con, you have all the mod cons such as American fridge and satellite TV and the added security of shutter and insect screens to all windows and a gated fully fenced garden.

A car is essential and you are only 20-minutes away from Gandia and all the supermarket/shops you need. Further afield and easy to reach are Benidorm, Valencia and numerous great days out.

Highly recommended for a great get away with comfort and charm.

We stayed there as a party of 5, 2 adults, 2 x teenage children and a 7-year old and all were sad to leave and would welcome a return trip!

Grau de Gandia, 25 minutes away, has a 2 mile long blue flag beach. Parallel to that are a series of strips: a promenade for strolling / grass and trees for shade / a dedicated level tarmac strip for cycling and rollerblading / a one-way road / shops, cafes, restaurants and hotels, all overlooking the beach. We love it.

The whole coast is lovely and there are many beaches and smaller resorts to explore, without having to stay in amongst all the bustle, noise, traffic jams and nightclubs.

Car hire, or use of a car, is essential. Our best experiences have been with Record car rental from Alicante airport.

Alicante is the nearest 'cheap' airport (Ryanair, Easyjet, Monarch etc). It is about 120km away, but on excellent roads, so it takes about 80 minutes. Valencia is closer, about 80km, but flights there are usually more expensive. Again the roads are good and transfer takes about 60 minutes.

Benicolet is 3 to 4 minutes drive, 20 minute walk - small shops and bars.

Gandia is 15 minutes away - bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops, history. Follow the signs to Carrefour - it is a slightly expensive hypermarket, but huge. Oliva is a lovely little town 8km south of Gandia, with great restaurants, friday morning street market. Xativa for its castle.

Valencia is rich in museums, galleries. It's about 80km from the villa, or take the train from Gandia.

Further Details:

On at least one clear evening, stand out on the terrace and watch the bats flying round, dipping down to the swimming pool for water. Every now and again a large bird (hawk of some kind) can be seen doing the same thing. Awesome.

Look in the gardens for the odd rabbit - they come in from the surrounding countryside sometimes - lizards of various kinds, red squirrels. Look overhead for several types of strange and unusual bird, as well as boring old pigeons and sparrows. There are rumours of eagles.... We've seen owls and hoopoes.

Immediately to the left of the villa is open country, with many walks available. About half a kilometre up the hill you encounter a large area of forest recovering from a major wildfire about 5 years ago. There are many other walks available - along the dry (usually dry) riverbed, for example, or to a newish dam, about 3km away.

Lovely small village shop in Benicolet, plus a baker and pharmacy. There are at least a couple of bars in the village which do some food. Many villages nearby with bars and restaurants.

Many shops, bars, restaurants, banks, supermarkets in Gandia and Oliva, but remember that this part of Spain closes on Sundays - including the major supermarkets.

Benicolet is in one of the prime climbing areas of Spain. The Benicadell ridge is only about 10 - 15km away, and there are 8 other significant climbs within an hours drive.

Free wifi is available at the villa. It is approx 5 - 6mb, unlimited.
