About the Owner

I came to Scarborough from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands in 1979 because I felt that it was a beautiful environment to explore and enjoy, especially for a family. We had holidayed here for some years before and were thoroughly at home with the beach, Dalby Forest and The Wolds. Scarborough people are very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home instantly. With my career as a Beauty and Complementary Therapist I made a lot of friends very quickly. My husband, David, is originally from Middlesborough, went to Wolverhampton College to study photography, lived for some time in High Wychombe but came to Scarborough for all the same reasons. He retired last year from the local newspaper to enjoy his photography and freelance at leisure. Scarborough is the perfect place to do it.

Great apartment

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our friends and Granchildren aged 10 and 8 and had a fabulous Week.

The apartment is large with high ceilings with two huge bedrooms and one smaller room( which the girls slept in with no problem)

In our opinion the location was perfect for town( 6mins) and the beach about the same if you took the lift.

The owners were always available to sort out any problems( we had none) and parking ,and also little things like taking away our empty wine bottles(thankyou Denise and Hubby).

We would not hesitate in recommending this apartment, and Anja and Belle cannot wait to return next Year.

Lovely family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our second visit to Denise and David's ground floor apartment. Again, like last year we had a fabulous week. It is a smashing apartment and suits us, as a family, perfectly. It is spacious and clean and we love relaxing each night after long days out and about around Scarborough in the warm comfortable lounge. Our dogs thoroughly enjoy their holiday too. Denise is always on hand if there are any problems. The location is excellent, we particularly like the Ramshill Road area of Scarborough as there are shops on the doorstep and a nice 10 minute walk into town. It is a brilliant area for walking dogs as there are many paths leading from the Esplanade which you can explore whilst making your way down to the beach and Spa area. I recommended this apartment to friends of ours and they loved it too.

Lovely flat, perfectly placed for us.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in the ground floor flat for a week at the start of the Scottish school holidays - four adults and two children aged 7 and 11. The flat was large and comfortable, with 3 bedrooms, each with a toilet - very practical - a shower, and a bath. The kids were kept very happy with the wi-fi, and the adults enjoyed the DVD player and large table perfect for a massive jigsaw. We found the beds comfortable and the kitchen had a dishwasher and washing machine; a tumble dryer was just off one of the bedrooms. We didn't do much cooking, since there are various take-away places round about - we can recommend the fish and chips - and a Sainsbury's local round the corner for the occasional microwave meal or pizza at night. We were lucky enough to have great weather the whole week, so spent a lot of time on the beach.

We particularly enjoyed the area, and bought a weekly pass for the cliff lift so could zip up and down as often as we wanted, usually stopping for a G&T at the seafront before coming home in the evening. We also found a wee tea shop (Francis Tea Rooms) not far away; the tea and cakes were lovely and the kids were charmed to get a goodie bag to take away. The whole place suited us down to the ground and we hope to book it again. Thanks to Denise who keeps the place so nice and supplies the parking permits. Great.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write the review. We really do appreciate the feedback and are constantly improving the facilities to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. We like to think of it as a home from home and have included a hint of luxury and a lot of relaxation for your long-awaited holiday. The shops, parks and beach are so convenient to the apartment and there is a Complementary Salon / Spa opposite with special rates for our guests who love to enjoy a pamper treatment or even a good old-fashioned back, neck and shoulder massage. . It was great meeting Anne, Fred, Sophie, Patricia and Jane & Holly who made the week for us. A perfect family and friends group who made the most of their holiday and the area. We do take dogs and pride ourselves that there is no reduction in standard since we also like to enjoy a high standard accommodation when we holiday with our dog.. It is always a pleasure to meet our guests but thank you again for helping us to enjoy it so much. Kind Regards Denise

Spacious and clean apartment.

  • 3 of 5

Met by owner on arrival. Very friendly, informative and helpful throughout our week stay. We were a family of mother, 2x children and Grandma. We had a lovely week. Based conveniently to local shops, the town centre, beach and attractions. Parking was never an issue. Apartment itself was comfortable for our needs. No issues with hot water, TV, washing machine, oven, hob etc etc. Overall, a lovely stay.

Dissapointing stay.

  • 1 of 5

I booked this apartment for myself, mum, niece and our dog. The bathroom was very tiny. The shower door was broken and the lock on the door kept getting jammed. The television was broken, we arrived on Saturday and it was not fixed until Monday. Not worth the money we paid for it.

Owner's Response: We are genuinely disappointed to read these comments since the apartment has been in use for over 2 years with some very good feedback. The guests following were very positive about it's unique features, including the original bathroom door which has been stripped and waxed in order to retain it. Of course, it is not a modern door and has a bolt lock, but we have checked it and it appears to work ok, but we are asking our future guests about it's suitability. The apartment is fairly new, with the bathroom having been fitted only 3 years ago. Changeover is overseen by myself and David to ensure as high a standard.as possible. Unfortunately, the television had been tuned out so there was only one channel on changeover day which was not spotted by ourselves for which we apologise. David attended to it and retrieved three channels on that evening. Also making suitable DVDs available. The TV was fully operational within 2 days by replacing the digital box to ensure that our guests could watch their favorite soaps on Monday.. The shower door should not have been a problem as the guests following have all used it without difficulty. It was ok on arrival day,Saturday 8th but required attention by Monday10 th. The maintenance man has checked it over to ensure that there was no underlying issue. If advised of problems we attend to it asap as we live on the premises. Julie met up with me on a daily basis because, although there is no laundry service (there is a launderette nearby) I offered to dry the 5/6 towels that she washed each day. Unfortunately, although I was told they were enjoying their holiday, the shower wasn't mentioned to me at all... With elderly people involved guests are advised about the stairs and I did suggest to Julie before booking that it wasn't suitable for her Mum of 82yrs. I was assured that she was able and also had Julie and her niece to help. On their arrival I was amazed by her agility. She walked upstairs without even one stop! The cases were carried up for them.. I was disappointed for Sarah when Julie told me after booking that she would be coming on the following Thursday rather than Saturday due to work committments. On arrival Julie said that this date had now changed to Friday and the 2nd lady, Michelle, was not coming. Sadly, due to her circumstances I never saw Sarah to voice my disappointment about the loss of most of her holiday.. I will continue to try to ask guests for feedback as I always do during the stay..

Disappointing and disatisfied

  • 2 of 5

We were all looking forward to our weeks stay in the upper apartment and had a warm greeting from Denise. There is 5 fights of stairs and although we were aware it was a top floor apartment it proved challenging as we had our 83 year old mother with us. Firstly the bathroom is in poor condition with a door that doesn't close properly with a poor locking device, the shower door was not fitted securely and although David attempted to repair it; it fell off and hurt my mother's foot, I do not find this acceptable. The TV did not work and it took 3 days to amend. There was no tumble dryer in the kitchen which would have been helpful on the top floor. The Wifi access was unpredictable. The apartment was clean and the owners friendly. I agree with the other reviewers about excellent location and parking. I would not recommend the top floor apartment if you are travelling with elderly people but they do accept dogs I passed on our views to David and he said Denise would be in touch so we are still waiting for her call.

Location

From the Owner

This is a beautiful, spacious Victorian property in an amazing conservation area. There are lots of walking areas and glorious scenery to explore. The area is ideal for holidays by the sea and also for woodland walks, just great for families and couples alike. But what makes it perfect I think is the complete array of local shops just one minute walk away making it self-sufficient for everyone's needs. Scarborough town centre and the beach are also only 3-5 minutes away along with the many areas for walks and well-tended parks in South Cliff. Perfect if you only want a short walk and view. It is on the main bus route to Filey and the Wolds and close to the A64 so you can explore the surrounding areas from Whitby to Pickering and York to Bridlington,... an ideal location for holidays.
