About L'Espoir

Together with my husband and our young family we holidayed in France for many years in different Regions staying in a variety of rental accommodation.

As soon as we viewed L'Espoir we both knew this is the one, it's set in such a beautiful setting.

During these holidays we remember the best of each and added them plus our own must haves into L'Espoir.

L'Espoir is very much a second home rather than a holiday home to our family, our previous guests have enjoyed the ambient atmosphere.

You will find L'Espoir very well equipped for all your needs during your stay.

Children and adults are all welcomed at L'Espoir.

We now grandchildren and they safely play outside as the garden is enclosed the pool is fenced and gated. They enjoy their holidays at gran and grandpa's.

Why L'Espoir chose Boismé

We chose Poitou Charente area as it is only bettered by the Riviera climate. The scenery is breath-taking, costal resorts to the west, wine regions nearby, transport links are very good, major motorway railways and airports accessible.

Cycle tracks and quite country lanes to explore.

Our family has visited most of the area and can recommend activities and days out for all tastes.

We love the mornings at L'Espoir you wake up to birdsong. Pop down to the boulangerie for your baguette and croissants make your morning cuppa and sit out at the terrace watching the swallows swoop high in the sky.

The evenings are just as calming, sitting under the ink black sky looking at the stars all around listening to the grasshoppers with a night cap in hand - bliss

What makes this farmhouse unique

You have your own private swimming pool, hot outdoor shower.

Full Sky TV

The pool and garden is fully enclosed therefore mum & dad know their little ones are safe to run free. A recent addition is the large climbing frame with swings glider and chute.

Our village of Boisme has a café bar serving meals, the boulangerie is also a mini mart selling locally produced eggs cheese wine along with the usual things you tend to run out off.

For winter rentals you can enjoy logs fires to cosy up to with a good book.

There is very little traffic noise bar the odd tractor going down the lane to tend to the fields beyond, our grand children run to the gate and wave to the farmer.

Depending on when you come, help yourself to the fruit from our fruit trees. We have plumb peach cherry & apricot trees.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This holiday was truly amazing and as a result have booked up for next year. The farmhouse had everything our young family needed. Perfect retreat, weather fab, great pool. Didn't want to leave.

We really enjoyed our family holiday at L'Espoir, our children especially like the pool that they were in every day and the English channels on the TV,where they watched there favourite cartoons when it was hot outside. The house was nicely furnished, comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen.

We spent a few days out in the local area and can recommend the Zoo at Doue for all ages. The owner gave us lots of information about the area and what may suit us. I would recommend Niort, a lovely city and the wine trail around Saumur to see many different vineyards and villages.

It was lovely to arrive to your welcome pack, a cup of tea followed by a glass of wine was well received.

Thank you

I loved the outdoor shower and pool.

Thanks Peter

Notes on accommodation: L'Espoir dates back to the 1800's although thoroughly updated with modern conveniences and fittings L'Espoir still holds many of it's historic French charm inside. At the pool side there is a hot shower, the gardens have abundant fruit trees and flowering plants. Outside: The garden at L'Espoir is well cared for by our excellent house managers. There are many different plants which in bloom make the garden beautifully scented. There is outdoor lighting around the pool and at the terrace making it suitable to be outside all day long. The pool is 10x6 has the sun all day, the shallow end is 1.1mtr in depth the deep end is 2mtrs. There is a ledge running the length of the pool and steps to access it. The pool is fenced and gated to the current French regulations. There is a hot shower next to the pool ideal for showering before and after a swim. This was a perfect spot for a family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Spacious, peaceful and with superb views over the countryside this was the perfect spot for a familiy holiday. Garden spacious enough for a kick about, great climbing frame for the kids and a fantastic pool for all to enjoy. All the facilities you could possibly need and an easy to use charcoal BBQ which was perfect for evening entertainment. Within an hour you can drive to a range of medieval towns, Gallo Roman ruins and neothlic cultural sites which were good mornings out and still be back in time for an afternoon poolside which, with temperatures in the high 30s, was a must. Would certainly be back again.

Owner's Response: So pleased your family enjoyed the facilities on site. The BBQ is a feature of { as your family swim, you cook} in many a holiday in our visitors book. So happy that you enjoyed the surrounding area, especially the medieval towns, the one you mentioned we must seek out thank you for that recommendation, Our aim is for our guests to feel chilled peaceful and relaxed in a location with superb views over the rolling French countryside in a peaceful environment, yet not far from activities for all member's of their family to enjoy their holiday. The weather during your holiday was almost a cancule temps off ( 35+) usually for August it is in the high twenties early thirties this time of year. Thank you for coming to L'Espoir for your holiday and wish you and all your family all the very best for the future.

Lovely comfortable welcoming house

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house, we were a family group of mixed ages and everyone had a ball. Helen was unbelievably patient with all my queries and questions. We were very lucky and had great weather. The house has everything you need Sky tv, wifi, a brilliantly equipped kitchen and the pool which everyone really enjoyed every minute in. Its exactly 2km to the village which has a lovely bakery. We never managed to get a meal in the restaurant as it was either closed or getting work done when we tried so we just gave up and had lovely barbeques at the house. Bressuire is a very easy 10 minute drive and theres a huge Carrefour there with everything you would need for your stay.

I would highly recommend this house if you want to get away from it all.

Great quiet country house

  • 5 of 5

There was a gang of us stayed in this house. It was very accurate to the photos, Helen was brilliant at giving tips and information before, during and after arrival. The house has everything you need it really is a home from home - with a pool - we all really made good use of the pool and all the pool toys that were at the house and we were very lucky to get great weather when we were there.

We made great use of the barbeque and the kitchen has all you need, every utensil as you would have in your own house and a huge amount of glasses, crockery and cutlery.

The village is a 2km walk away and has the bakery for fresh bread and croissants, we tried to eat in the restaurant in the village but it was closed on the nights we went or they were getting work done the night it looked open.

There is a great Carrefour in Bressuire which is a very easy 10min drive away and we also got a takeaway from Dominos in Bressuire and a nice Lebanese restaurant that is near the bus/train station in Bressuire.

The house is in a very rural setting, it is lovely and quiet with lots of birdsong.

We did day trips to Puy du Fou which is only about 45 minutes away and really is a brilliant day out, we also went to Futuroscope which is a little over an hour away and is also a good day out.

The house, pool and garden were spotless on arrival, it was great to have the TV with Sky - even though we didn't us it much but the kids were glad to have it - beds were very comfortable, I would have no hesitation recommending this house to a family group.

Amazing family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at L'espoir. So much to do. The children loved playing on the climbing frame, swings and slide, the pool was always a hit as was the boules court.

The gite itself was fully equipped with washing machine and added bonus of a dishwasher. Lounge is very comfortable with plenty of seating and a large video/DVD library.

The bedrooms are really spacious and have plenty of storage space.

There's also so much to do in the local area, the zoo at la fountain is a must! Boisme is a lovely wee village with a great bakery and bar/restaurant.

Will definately be back.

Private, peaceful and excellent

  • 5 of 5

The property is spacious and extremely well equipped, we wanted for nothing. Wifi kept the teenagers content in the evening and the pool, boules and local football pitch content by day. So peaceful and private, often saw deer nearby on journeys, so many birds too. Well placed for Puy de Fou, La Rochelle and Saumer as well as smaller more local towns/villages. Very helpful local managers, and the whole experience from booking and receiving such helpful and friendly advice from the owners to our reluctant departure was one of our best in France, we are quite seasoned at this. Would thoroughly recommend.

Excellent property!

  • 5 of 5

In summary, big property, well equipped and friendly and helpful owners. First time we stayed at L'Espoir. Took it for a month and never regretted it. 4 year grandaughter appreciated the play equipment and decent sized lawn. She also appreciated Sky tv (and so did we, we watched the international cricket). 4 good sized bedrooms, comfortable beds. Good seating area both inside and out. Very quiet, virtually no traffic noise. Owners provided tons of information on where to go, what to see and where to eat. well equipped throughtout. Local agents (English) very helpful

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to review L'Espoir. It's is lovely to know that our guests appreciate our attention and care we give L'Espoir. We feel they deserve that little bit extra as you kindly mentioned - TV package, comfortable beds, large garden, play equipment for our little guests. I will pass on your comments to our house managers, they too will be happy to receive them. All the very best for the future; to you and your family.

For picking up forgotten things, our boulangerie stocks many fresh produce from the area.

For larger shops there are many hyper markets in Bressuire 10mns drive

The area has many villages and markets to visit, in summer months most week-ends you will find a fete of some sort to go along to e.g. cheese mussel's brocantes. Beautiful Chateaux & wine producers to sample some of the Loire's best wine's all within 1hr.

Further Details:

Although L'Espoir in rural you are not far away from activities and lovely little villages to wander through and have a café watching the world go by, large towns for shopping. We have some fabulous restaurants close at hand, French of course, Italian, Thai and Tappas are just some examples of what variety we have, happy to recommend some.

Noirt is a favourite town for a stroll for us, it has many streets and ally ways to explore. So is Thouras with its huge weekly market held each Friday morning.

Our town of Bressuire is a thriving place with numerous cafes, restaurants and banks. There are some lovely little individual shops to browse through. The Chateau has bi-annual Highland Games situated in the Chateau grounds, which are beautiful to walk through and get a clear view of Bressuire and beyond.

In the month of June there is a Grand Prix, the cars are of a by gone age and race a circuit of the town, it's quite something to see these old cars again.
