Townhouse in Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal - Located In Historic Centre Near All Amenities

A fully modernised and tastefully restored townhouse centrally located on the West bank of the River Gilao, just a few minutes walk from Tavira’s main square, historic sights, riverside amenities, and ferries to the beaches. The house is single-storey, and high-ceilinged, and while it is built with three bedrooms (and is proportioned accordingly) it is offered as two-bedroom accommodation only, for a maximum of four adults. The restoration work was completed in June 2013 to a very high standard. The house benefits from a large rear patio (unusual in Tavira’s historic centre) which can also be accessed directly from the street via a side door and entrance passageway. The house is registered for rental under Tavira Council license no. 5246/2014.

The rental rates are established in Euros, so when viewing the price table please click on the Euro currency tab if the rates appear in UK£ or any other currency. The website is not able to set the Euro as the default currency, though this is the actual rental currency.

A beautiful home, spotless and very practical. ideally located close to the river and super restaurants of Tavira. Lovely private garden area. Excellent communication with Richard about the house and the area. Recommended to anyone who needs to wind down.

Paradise in Tavira

So pleased we found this amazing place (thank you Richard). A very unique place it was so lovely to find a place so tastefully done. Original features with a twist of modern and antique. We could not fault anything and it comes highly recommended. We will definately be going back.

not sure where to go next; as we are unlikely to find the unique combination of accommodation, facilities, location and laid back ambiance that the Town House and Tavira has to offer.

Wonderful house in a quiet location

Just back from a fantastic stay in this property. The owner is really helpful, answered all my queries and provided suggestions for places to eat.

The property is beautifully equipped and very comfortable. It is convenient for everything you might want in Tavira and parking is not a problem.

We used our car for visiting Monrerosa olive oil mill at Monacarapacho, Loulé produce market (out of this world - we thought Tavira market was good until we visited Loulé!), Nova Cortiça cork factory tour and snorkelling in Fuseta.

Some more suggestions for eating in Tavira to add to those we were provided with - Gilão near the old market and the wooden bridge, Copos e Petiscos on the other side of the river near the wooden bridge and Três Palmeiras (open 1-3pm only) near Continente.

We were two couples and hope very much to return next year

Just what we were looking for.

The house is faultless and the location could hardly be better.

Tavira in the autumn was very relaxed, and the temperature in low 20's suited us fine.

Richards restaurant recommendations were spot on.

Wonderful house and location

This house is just perfect! It is extremely well equipped and well organised and the kitchen has more gadgets than I've ever seen! Location is really central to the beautiful town and the ferry points to the beach. Richard the owner has a brochure of what to do and see that is really helpful and a person to meet you on arrival to show you what you need to know. I would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone , it was really lovely. Tavira itself is a quiet but wonderful location full of friendly locals, beautiful restaurants and stunning surroundings.

Location

From the Owner

I bought the house because I believe the Eastern Algarve (like the far Western part of the Province) - and Tavira in particular - has retained much of its rich heritage and culture, in spite of the pressures of tourism. I bought it not primarily as an investment, but as a second home, and we have re-modelled it accordingly. The house tends to be used more by ourselves, family and friends than by paying guests. It is a tranquil gem in the heart of Tavira's historic centre.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The area is known for the high-quality beaches that run along the ocean side of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The house is less than five minutes walk from the ferries running in summer to the Ilha de Tavira with its splendid beach, bars and restaurants. Quieter nearby beaches to the west of Tavira include Praia da Terra Estreita and Praia do Barril. East of Tavira beaches which include Cabanas, Fabrica, Manta Rota and Praia Verde stretch along the coast to the Spanish border.

Travel:

Tavira is 36km by road to the east of Faro airport on the coastal N125 road, and 40km via the A22 motorway. The town can also be accessed from the airport by public transport or shuttle service, and the use of a car in Tavira is not essential. A local railway service runs the length of the south coast of the Algarve.

Distances:

The Spanish border is 35km to the east, and Seville a further 135km. Seville, like Lisbon, can also be reached by direct bus service from Tavira.

Further Details:

The Ria Formosa Natural Park is considered an important bird area for both resident and migratory species. Bicycles can be rented locally to explore the area and to ride the Algarve Coastal Cycle Route.

Booking Notes:
25% deposit payable within 7 days of booking with the balance payable 8 weeks before arrival. For bookings made less than 8 weeks before arrival the full rental is payable upon booking. If a booking is cancelled more than 8 weeks before arrival 10% of the rental will be refunded if the deposit has been paid. The rent includes a weekly electricity allowance of 200 kWh which is ample for normal summer or winter use.

Changeover Day:
Lettings are in principle from Saturday-to-Saturday during the high season, though some flexibility may be possible. Guests should preferably arrive after 15h00 and depart by 10h00, but every effort will be made to take account of their particular needs.

Notes on prices:
Longer lets during the low seasons could be agreed at adjusted rental levels.

The house is located in a very quiet street yet is within minutes of all amenities - shops, post office, ferries, restaurants, banks, cafes, and free parking. It has the advantage of having a large, quiet, and private patio at the rear which is very rare in the central part of the town. The area is blessed with a wonderful climate and has much to offer throughout the year, from beaches to birdwatching, and from heritage to hiking, passing through fishing, sailing, and - of course - seafoods.

  • Notes on accommodation: It is regretted that pet animals cannot be accepted, and that rentals are restricted to adults only. Outside: The large private patio (approximately 50m2) at the rear of the house with its table, chairs, and parasol provides a very practical and pleasant extension to the indoor living area, and is perfect for al fresco wining and dining. The shower room/wc at the rear of the patio is ideal for after-beach showering before entering the house. Utility Room: The utility room at the rear of the patio area houses the washing machine, clothes lines, ironing board, patio furniture etc. It is perfectly dry, and could be used for the temporary storage of suitcases, golf clubs, etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bathroom towels and bed linen are provided, but not beach towels. A cleaning service is provided at the end of a one-week stay, and a change of bed linen and towels is provided in the middle of a two-week stay.
