Detached stone farmhouse located on a working farm within a mile of Brimham Rocks and Summerbridge. Five bedrooms, shower room with WC to ground floor, bathroom with bath and WC and en-suite shower room with WC. Egyptian cotton bedding to all beds plus white fluffy towels provided. Sitting room with open fire, games room with multi-fuel stove. Kitchen/diner with electric aga and French doors out to gardens and ample parking. Porch for boots and walking gear. Situated close to the Nidderdale way and on the "Way of the Roses" cycle route. Lots to do in the locality including horse riding, fishing, cycling off or on road, walking with Llamas, climbing or bouldering at Brimham Rocks. We can help arrange activities just give us a call.

About Mrs Fiona Long

I grew up at the farm and the cottage was our family home. We have lots of happy memories of time spent at the cottage. I am now a mum of 4 and our family love the outdoors and spending time with cousins and grandparents at the farm.

Why Mrs Fiona Long chose Hartwith cum Winsley

The house is on a working farm near to Brimham Rocks and offers lots to do locally whilst being away from the 'madding crowds'. It is situated on the 'way of the roses' cycle route, not far from the Nidderdale Way. Harrogate is approximately 10 miles away whilst Pateley Bridge is only 4 miles away. Brimham Rocks is within easy walking distance albeit up hill on the way there, its all down hill on the way back!

What makes this farmhouse unique

The property is a detached house which has been extended and improved over the years. The original part is probably circa 1800 whilst the newer parts are much more recent. It has been refurbished throughout so offers both character and modern convenience.

A large snooker table is situated in the dining room and converts to provide a dining table if required.

We had the most wonderful weekend, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Such a warm, comfortable home. The weather was shocking but it didn't hamper our plans. Loved cooking on the aga. The touch of the wine & shortbread & cake was unexpected and highly appreciated.

Friendly, welcoming and well appointed - perfect for our family meet up

With our family scattered across the UK we have always struggled to find somewhere to meet up and now we think we have found the perfect place! With many thanks to Fiona and her family for their warm welcome - we hope to see you again :)

ps if you are reading this looking for a balanced review, the only sight downside is that you do need to plan your meals so that they work with the aga...which we successfully negotiated and had some great food.

Owner's Response: Thankyou so much Claire I am so glad you had a great get together :) The aga is a different way of cooking which we do run through with all our guests - we are always on hand for any advice and to provide assistance - the electric hob, slow cooker and george forman grill are also available plus the microwave and toaster :)

Absolutely beautiful place. Wud have given 5 stars except we were without hot water and heating for a few hours on a couple of days and weather was really cold. Otherwise would definitely recommend. Scenery fantastic and the cottage itself was first class. Would certainly return.

Cosy retreat in beautiful surroundings

Spent a long weekend at this lovely house. It was very well equipped and comfortable. Lazy mornings in the kitchen by the aga and cosy evenings in the living room by the open fire. A great location for exploring the area,we visited Brimham Rocks, Ripley and Harrogate. Beautiful area with loads to do and see. Thank-you to Fiona for great communication and making us feel so welcome.

Fantastic weekend at this gorgeous property!

We had a wonderful weekend at the beautiful country house. It is in a perfect quiet location surrounded by glorious countryside and great for country pubs! The house was extremely well equipped and beautifully decorated. There were 10 girls staying with plenty of space for all of us, thank you for your hospitality. Recommend cars to explore area as remote location. Thanks again.

Fabulous Chritmas

From the moment we arrived at the farm Fiona and the family made us all very welcome. With warm homemade shortbread on the counter and a fire in the grate we slipped into holiday mode immediately.

With tree generations in comfortably accommodated we were in need of nothing in the well equipped kitchen. Christmas dinner was perfect with the house dressed for Christmas.

I know the area a little and love it. The rain may lash and the wind can blow but what a glorious and inspiring location to lift the spirits and clear the mind. In my view one of the most, beautiful and uplifting location on the globe. No such thing as the wrong weather only the wrong cloths so get out and soak it up

They have created a dog friendly, family welcoming holiday location on a working farm that does them credit.

Thank you for looking after us so well Fiona. I hope we will see you again soon.

Our quiet location makes it easy to stay put and enjoy the clean air and beautiful landscape but if you are more adventurous there is plenty to see and do; approx 1 mile away on foot is Brimham Rocks a remarkable collection of weathered rocks that have formed magnificent sculptures, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal are 15 mins drive away: the ruins of a 12th Century Cistercian Abbey (the largest in Europe) alongside a beautiful Georgian Water Garden and peaceful Deer Park. For walkers we have the Nidderdale Way, literally on the door step and many other beautiful places to explore. For historians there is a wealth of ancient buildings; Ripon's Cathedral which dates from 672AD, over 1300 years old! For cyclists - we are situated on the "Way of the Roses" route and Le Tour Yorkshire leaves a cycling legacy with the route being not far from the farm! For families there is an enviable choice. Tree climbing, pond dipping, and river jumping are all to be had within minutes! For more formal activities there are any number of attractions: Light water Valley is a 25 minute drive away and offers roller-coaster thrills and spills; How Stean Gorge is the site of a Highwayman's hideout and now offers abseiling, gorge-walking and kayaking with Studfold Farm at Lofthouse great for families with children. The Forbidden Corner is a wonderful folly and defies description but I heartily recommend it for the strangest day out! Shoppers and Spa seekers can head to Harrogate, just 30 minutes away and Pateley Bridge, 3 miles away has Ye Olde Sweet Shop.

Caterers can be arranged as can activities such as clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking and many others, we're happy to help arrange an action packed visit or a cosy quiet relaxing break.
