About John and Cara Henderson

We have lived in this beautiful area for over forty years. John was Resident Agent on the Croome Estate which has the National Trust Capability Brown Landscaped Park and Court of Croome at its centre.

John and Cara Henderson purchased this cottage in 1989

Why John and Cara Henderson chose Malvern Hills

We purchased and converted our barn and the adjoining byre, as we had already lived in the area for 19 years.

The tranquil surroundings and magnificent views across the River Severn to the Malverns are a delight and all this within easy reach of the M.5 and M.50 giving scope to see the Midlands, Cotswolds and rural Herefordshire.

What makes this cottage unique

The delightful countryside with its long distance walks, the nearby River Severn, Jazz and regatta week-ends at Upton upon Severn, music festivals (Three Choirs in Worcester), literary, music and science in Cheltenham and national garden and agricultural shows at the Royal Three Counties Show Ground, Malvern. There are important tourist attractions in Worcester (8 miles), Tewkesbury ( 5 miles) and Malvern 10 miles) and Pershore (6 miles) is the home of the Royal Horticultural Society, based at the Horicultural College.

We are also on the threshold of the Cotswolds.

Excellent accomodation in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed long river walks in both directions, footpaths on the doorstep. Climbed up to the Worcester Beacon in the Malvern Hills. Rambled round the grounds of the National Trust Property at Croome. If time had permitted could have spent a full day there, there's lots to see.

Also briefly explored Tewkesbury and had an excellent lunch at the Bay Tree.

Only in the area for 4 days including attending a family wedding, but would recommend it and will probably return again for longer.

Short Easter break to Worchester

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 2 dogs and I had a very enjoyable time at John and Cara studio. John was very helpful from the day we arrived, showing us around the studio and the lovely garden. I somehow think the dogs enjoyed the short holiday more than we did as they both had such a big garden to investigate, they were out of the house from morning till sunset, coming home in between for food and drink! The location is great for sightseeing, Malvern Hills is just a couple of miles away. There are plenty of pubs to have a meal and of course Upton has some lovely restaurants too. We would definitely visit John and Cara again if we ever have another opportunity for a short break. Thank you John and Cara for your hospitality.

The Studio was cosy and in a lovely location - perfect for exploring the surrounding area, e.g Malvern and Upton on Severn. There are good pubs and restaurants nearby.

John and Cara were welcoming hosts, we are looking forward to returning!

Cosy cottage stay - perfect for traveling with dogs

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just came back from a short stay at John and Cara's studio and couldn't have been happier with our time there. They were completely welcoming of our 3 (large!) dogs and have their own sweet retriever Strauss (who welcomed our dogs). John gave us a thorough walkthrough of the apartment and offered some helpful tips on local resources. The studio has enough of the essentials for a full self-catering stay. The living area had two comfortable reclining chairs for the reading we caught up on, and the bedroom was spacious yet cozy (we caught up on lots of sleep as well!) with a very large bed. John and Cara gave us full run of their rather large property which our pups loved, taking the opportunity to chase some rabbits. The home is well off the "main" road so we were not concerned with any potential traffic while our dogs explored. Nearby (less than 10 minute drive) is Croome Court, a beautiful historic property which is also very welcoming of dogs. We strolled there for a couple of hours in the sunny weather before heading to the Christmas market in Worcester. We highly recommend this property as a very dog friendly but comfortable location, with warm, welcoming hosts.

The Studio

  • 5 of 5

Studio refers to the fact that this was an artist's studio, it is not a studio apartment, as it has a separate bedroom . We enjoyed our stay, along with Lily, our puppy.Cooking facilities are basic but adequate, especially as there are plenty of options to eat out locally. The bed is large and comfortable.

The Studio is in a great location. Nearby are many places to visit, including the Malvern Hills and a host of National Trust properties. We left a towel behind and John posted it to us without us asking. Thank you. We definitely recommend.
