This is a truly unspoilt corner of France where you can practice your French (most of the locals understand English, but are a bit shy about speaking it!), and immerse yourself in the French country lifestyle. The house has WiFi and a TV for watching DVDs; board games, books and other family activities and help make holidays here a refreshing break. The property is completely private, and not shared with anyone - you have the place entirely to yourselves. If you need help or have questions during your stay, the property manager lives and works in nearby Neris Les Bains. He is also the owner of the local internet cafe, speaks fluent English, and is happy to assist whether you cant find the corkscrew, or you just want a restaurant recommendation. If you have any special requests - such as babysitting, cleaning or cooking, etc, just ask.
We bought the house in 2006, and have spent as much time there as possible! We've done a lot of renovations, added a pool and boules pitch, and generally upgraded the place to make it very comfortable, while retaining the character and charm.

This part of France is rural, peaceful and unspoilt. We really feel we have escaped when we are here! The local businesses - from boulangeries to restaurants - are family run, the people are very friendly and you might go the whole holiday without meeting a fellow countryman!
The nearby village of Neris Les Bains is a 3 star flower in bloom winning town - very pretty - and has amenities not usually found in such a rural location. There is a hot springs, a Spa offering massages and beauty treatments, a theatre, tennis courts, a market twice a week, golf and mini-golf, a ruined Roman amphitheatre and even a casino.
The cost of living here is very inexpensive - so drinks and dinner out with the family costs a fraction of what it would in more touristy parts of France.
The property is completely private - you dont share the pool, garden or other facilities with anyone.... not even the owner!
"We spent a glorious New Years at Montigny recently. Easy drive down from Paris via the amazing auto-route system. The property itself is nestled away beside a beautiful old French Spa town and has been lovingly renovated to modern standards but still retains that authentic Gallic charm. We spent the days relaxing around the fire with board games, going on long walks in the beautiful countryside, playing games in the vast grounds and drinking delicious local wine. For a relaxing holiday with your family in a beautiful home in a gorgeous part of Europe, Montigny is difficult to beat." Callum P.

5 star! This is one of the best Vacation Villas we have ever stayed in - truly relaxing holiday in an idyllic setting - we cannot wait to go back with the family !!! Neil A.
Beautifully refurbished and well maintained house in the French Countryside. We enjoyed a weeks stay here with five adults and four children and all had plenty of room to spread out. The pool was well maintained and enjoyed by all- it was definitely a refreshing temperature! The Terrace was a great place to sit and have dinner in the evenings with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It is a short drive to nearby towns and tourist attractions - the children particularly enjoyed the swimming lake at Lapeyrouse. The house is not suitable for young toddling children - due to the open plan nature of the house. The owner did advise of us this at the time of booking but we chose to go ahead and found ourselves constantly following our one year old everywhere so best avoided if you want to sit down on your holiday!
We had a great holiday in Montigny. The house is huge with a large, central, split-level living/dining/kitchen atrium and two separate bedroom/bathroom areas at either end, which lend themselves well to a large group (twelve of us). It's very comfortable and well-equipped and we loved eating outside on the large terrace overlooking the boules pitch (a major evening activity) and the view beyond.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful and Neris-les-Bains one of the best small local towns we've ever encountered, with a good range of shop, bars, restaurants, twice-weekly market and long peaceful gardens near the spa.Jeff's bar in Neris was fun, Jeff very helpful and we had several very competitive games of mini-golf there.
Highly recommend Le Vieux Moulin in Neris. We had a lovely meal there in the large outdoor courtyard; lovely food and friendly, efficient service.
Further afield lots of places to explore. One highlight was canoe-ing at Gorges de Sioule, though not for the faint-hearted - the rapids were a real challenge.
Looking forward to a return visit!
We stayed here with ten people and had a great holiday. The living room and kitchen are beautiful with high ceilings and an impressive fireplace which we didn't get to use as the weather was very warm and sunny. There is a pool to cool down in. Two great bathrooms, good beds, wifi. Further, there is table tennis, a garden to hang around in or play badminton, and a terrace for evening meals. The care taker has been very helpful and even found us a pair of crutches we needed.
We visited towns and villages in the vicinity and went kayaking in the Gorges de Sioule.
We were absolutely astounded at the creativity which had been put into the property. It had so much space and everything you could want on a holiday. There were lots of rooms all clean and ready for our use, as were the two bathrooms which were a pleasure to use. Everything indoors was spectacular, the huge fire in the sitting room, the massive kitchen, the games room and the laundry. Nothing had been forgotten. We spent many happy hours in the swimming pool or on the patio having a BBQ and gazing at the wildlife and the stars after dark. The peace and tranquility was another bonus. We were very well looked after by our manager who kept the pool beautifully clean. No one wanted to leave as it was such a lovely setting and we felt happy and relaxed in such a terrific property.
A group of 10 friends used this gite as the base for a motorcycling holiday.
On arrival we were very impressed with the style and space it offered. Huge rooms and lots of them. Our resident pyromaniac was delighted with the huge fire in the centre of the living room and insisted on lighting it every evening. The chefs in the group were over the moon at the kitchen. Often self catering properties lack even the most basic of cooking equipment but that was definitely not the case here. There was all we needed and more.
We were too early in the season for the pool to be open but the terrace had plenty of room for eating and socializing. There were also fabulous views over the countryside.
We found the supermarket in Commentry to be the best locally for our main shopping. The smaller one in Nerys was OK for the basics. The boulangerie in Nerys was good though.
All in all we had a fabulous week and all agreed we would be happy to use this property again. One of the best we have stayed in.
We visited Montigny with my brother in law and his family, the layout of the house was very well suited to this, with two separate bedroom areas, but a wonderful, and huge, communal seating and dining area.
The house itself was clean, with loads of books and board games to amuse everyone in the case of bad weather. The kitchen was well equipped, and there was plenty of seating for everyone, there was also a huge games room on the top level with a table-tennis table, and assorted other games and toys
The local supermarket was a short drive away in Commentary, and had everything that one would expect from a French supermarket.
Overall, I would thoroughly recommend Montigny, so much so we are thinking of going back with other friends next year.
