Porth House. Centrally located house with a private garden and parking

Overview

Property

Updated: 04-Dec-2016
Beautiful And Comfortable House Benefiting From Private Garden And Parking

Porth House is a beautiful and comfortable holiday home for groups of up to seven and equally suited to smaller groups and couples who want just that little bit more space. A double fronted period property, which has been completely refurbished but retaining many original features, including stained glass windows and original shutters. It offers sea views, a private south facing courtyard garden, a large open plan kitchen, 4 bedrooms and secure garage parking. Located between a five to ten minute walk from the house to either the Tate Gallery, Barbara Hepworth museum, award winning Porthmeor and Porthminster beaches, surf school, the Harbour or St Ives’ many restaurants, shops and galleries.

This is a beautiful bright town house equally ideal for couples or groups. With so many original features and carefully chosen art it really is a lovely house to spend time in. It is perfect to use as a base to explore St Ives due to its central location so you won't need to use your car. However parking can be difficult in St Ives in peak holiday season, and if you do want to explore the surrounding area its very useful that we have parking on site. This secure garage has direct access into the kitchen and a useful after beach shower for surfers (or even swimmers).

The large open plan kitchen has been designed with sociable holidays in mind with a breakfast bar with barstools and a table overlooking the garden seating up to 8. It has an adjoining seating area with beautiful afternoon light. Off the kitchen is a useful utility room with a loo and plenty of storage for beach and surf equipment.

There is a large living room with TV/DVD for those who want to escape somewhere quieter, with plenty of books and games. This room over looks the garden.

There are 4 beautifully appointed and comfortable bedrooms. All have plenty of storage and thoughtful lighting.

Bedroom 1: kingsize bed and ensuite shower room.

Bedroom 2: Kingsize bed

Bedroom 3: 2x single beds

Bedroom 1x single bed.

All the beds have comfortable mattresses with high quality bedding.

The family bathroom has a large bath and rain head shower, sink, loo and a supply of fluffy towels.

Unusually for St Ives we also have a secure and private paved garden which is south facing and a real sun trap. It has mature trees and its own 'beach hut' which children particularly enjoy.

We have excellent wifi connection.

Bookings are on a Friday to Friday basis with some flexibility out of peak season. Please use the enquiry button to contact Alison if you want to discuss your holiday in more detail.

About the Owner

I'm a designer so the combination of beautiful beaches and the arts heritage of St Ives makes this an inspiring place to be. We have been holidaying in St Ives for many years and had some fantastic times with our children and friends, plus of course this has given us first hand experience of what we need from a house to have a good time!

Beautiful holiday home, centrally located.

  • 5 of 5

This was a one week visit in September, with quite reasonable weather for the time of the year, which is very often the case in our experience.

Porth House turned out to be one of the finest properties we have stayed at in the St Ives area, in more than 25 years of regular visits, and we would find it difficult to find fault. The house is decorated and maintained to a high standard, and all necessary equipment is supplied, including toys and other items suitable for our 16 month old grandson. A very spacious property with a small suntrap front garden. The parking might be considered a problem, necessitating reverse parallel parking into the 6 metre garage from a narrow back road. However, with strategically placed watchers, I managed this manoeuvre about 8 times with a 4.5 metre long car, and no mishaps. We would not hesitate to return to this property at some time in the future, having enjoyed our stay immensely.

Beautifully decorated house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully decorated house in a great location with some thoughtful additions which helped to make our holiday even more enjoyable. An easy walk to the fantastic Porthmeor beach and to the centre of St Ives. The shower in the garage was great to clean off the sand following a day at the beach and there is plenty of space for storing all the gear. The courtyard garden is lovely and perfect for a morning coffee or evening drink. I would definitely stay in Porth House again and recommend to friends and family.

Review of Porth House - Amazing house!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday staying here, what a great house! We were 4 adults and 3 children and the house was spacious enough for all of us, great little garden and gorgeous furnishings. Allison the host was kind enough to book us a table at the Porthminster Café and was very easy to deal with. Would highly recommend as a place to stay (although you need great parking skills to park the car!)

Fabulous property in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in numerous properties around Cornwall this is by far one of the best. From initial contact with the owner she was always helpful and maintained great contact upto the day of arrival. The property was immaculately clean provided such an amazing amount of space for our family to enjoy a wonderful holiday and the outside space was brilliant for two young children to enjoy. The only down side was the parking, the garage has certain limitations and we were unable to get our car into it. However the long stay carpark is a very very short walk away.

We enjoyed as much of St Ives as we could in a week and wouldn't hesitate to return to this house in the future, just in a smaller car!

Perfect location, beautiful house!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to stay. The house is perfectly located close to town and Porthmeor beach with the added bonus of parking.

Inside the house is beautifully decorated, spacious, clean, extremely comfortable and has everything you need. You honestly can't fault it. It's so lovely we've already booked in for another week in the summer!

A sojourn in St Ives for six (aged 16 to 50+)

  • 5 of 5

This was our first holiday in St Ives. It's a truly lovely place. We all enjoyed it immensely. Staying at Porth House was a delight.

Here's why:

Porth House is spacious (larger than we anticipated). It accommodated our family with ease. Downstairs the rooms flow and all are well designed. Fabulous lighting throughout made the house look wonderful at night.

I had been a trifle concerned that this might be a 'precious' house but it's not at all. Very pleased to discover it's robust, comfortable and furnished with lovely things to be enjoyed. I would recommend it for younger families too. There's secure outside space, room for kit and room to play.

Large windows (no glazing bars at the bottoms, what a clever idea) give wonderful views, the garden, the palm fronds, the town, the snaking street lights even the sea!

The garage and the area around the back door served us as a working end to the house. Dumping grounds for wetsuits, wellies, sandy shoes, painting kit, fishing tackle etc. By confining our clutter to these areas we were able to keep the remainder of the house looking as lovely as in the pictures. Hooray!

The kitchen is well equipped. We found everything we needed. There's plenty of china, cutlery and glasses. The sitting room has lots of comfortable seating. The blue sofa is enormous.

Bedrooms and bathrooms are great too. Crisp bed linen, soft towels, lots of storage, masses of proper wooden hangers, great lights for reading in bed.

The standard of the housekeeping is high throughout. The house was clean, nothing felt dated and everything worked. On our arrival the heating was on, the towel rails were warm and the house felt welcoming.

Porth House is set high on a hill. It's a fairly steep, though not long walk, to the beaches and the town centre. It's brilliantly close to Porthmeor beach and the Barnoon car park ( should your party consist of more than one car load).

Booking our stay with Alison was easy. Helpful and quick to respond, she provided brilliant directions to the property that took us straight to the garage door. Can't wait for another visit!

Location

From the Owner

I was sold on this house before I got through the front door because of the lovely garden. It's so unusual in St Ives to have one but this is private and south facing! The house has a wealth of original features including stained glass windows and wooden shutters, then theres the location to the centre of town and Porthmeor beach AND a garage, I don't think there is a more perfect house.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Beach : Porthmeor at 150 Metres Car: not necessary

Porth House is ideally Iocated for everything St Ives has to offer and you can easily spend a week here without using a car. There are several beaches, all within a six to ten minute walk from the house and each offering a different beach experience. Porthmeor beach is closest to the house and is a 6 minute walk away. This award winning beach is a huge stretch of sand with two excellent cafes supplying fabulous breakfasts and an excellent spot to watch the sun go down. You can also find the surf school here. The Tate gallery can also be found here, over looking Porthmeor. We are also within a 5 minutes walk of the Barbara Hepworth museum, several art galleries, many restaurants, the Harbour and Fore Street which is the main shopping street., Porthminster beach is 10 minutes walk away. This has calm seas and the lovely Porthminster restaurant.

Please enquire to contact Alison should you want to discuss your holiday requirements in more detail.
