House in Portpatrick, Nr. Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland - Sandy Beach Across The Road, Many Sheltered Bays With Sand Beaches Within 15 Minute Walk

Beach House has a lounge with multi fuel stove, an eat in kitchen and a small sitting room downstairs, mid stairs is a family bathroom (with electric over 'P' shaped bath) and on the top floor are three bedrooms. The back garden is very private and is equipped with a BBQ. The area offers great walking and cycling (though quite hilly), the Rhinnes of Galloway has it's own micro climate so is often considerably warmer and drier than the rest of Scotland. If you are a golfer there is a golf course within a 10 minute walk. A day trip to Belfast is great, to either shop or visit the many tourist attractions such as the Titanic Experience, Belfast Zoo or cycle. You can even make a day trip to the Antrim Coast, for attractions such as the giant Causeway. Logan Botanic Gardens and Castle Kennedy Gardens are a must in Spring and summer.

I (David)have just reached the magic age of 64 I am a professional sports coach.

We have 3 girls all in their 20's two grandsons and a granddaughter.

Cheryl is retired software engineer and manager. Inbetween baby minding , and dog walking she manages to fulfill her passion, here in West Linton and Portpatrick, gardening.

I still jog, and play cricket and football and now love cycling.

Portpatrick was love at first sight and we bought Beach House on our first visit. Having worked in over 50 Countries I believe Portpatrick is one of the nicest corners on the earth and a hidden gem.

A must for walkers, cyclist, golfers, joggers and boat enthusiast. Its all on the doorstep

Outside: The back garden is private and has a patio at the top of the garden with seating and a gas BBQ, which enjoys the late afternoon sun, the garden near to the back door enjoys the morning sun which mean you can breakfast and lunch there and evening meal at the top of the garden. There is a bench at the front of the house, which is in the sun from mid morning to sunset and is amazing to sit with a cup of tea or glass of wine and watch the comings and going on the harbour and the most amazing sunsets. Utility Room: Washing machine is in the kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, linen, unlimited WiFi, heating and electricity all included. Property is cleaned prior to arrival. There are additional towels in the linen cupboard which are available for guests to use. Other: There is a small sitting room at the back of the cottage, with a table and chairs and a day bed the separate WC, leads off to access the back garden. The back garden also has a large bike shed.

Great location, nice cottage

The cottage location is great and overall the cottage is nice. It's needs a wee bit of tidying round the edges, but it did not stop us enjoying our time in the cottage. Great cottage for the dogs and walking.

The property was very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. 1 bathroom insufficient for 6

The house was in prime position and well heated. Plumbing dated and noisy but adequate. Single duvets too light for cold week. Garden excellent in warm spells. Very convenient for shops and restaurants. Excellent wifi.

Owner's Response: The guest makes some very good points. I guess duvets always a problem this time of year that is why we keep extra blankets under each divan bed. I was there the day prior ,with heating on , so must check out the plumbing unless it was an adjacent boiler? Excellent guest who treated our 200 year old cottage with great respect.

Cottage in great location, nice and relaxing

Cottage had everything in it you could possibly require. Everything was really clean when we arrived and the flowers were a lovely gesture. Views from cottage were brilliant.Plenty of space for the four of us and two small dogs. Had a great holiday there and the proximity of the hotels meant we didn't have to cook very often!! Had nice relaxing time. Secure back garden for children and dogs.

Excellent location home from home and lovely village with plenty of choice for eating out.

Fabulous place for a relaxing stay. Lovely views around the village. Nice walks and plenty of choices for eating out. Bakery, post office and convenience stores along with gift shops. Cottage lovely and cosy for our autumn break. Everything you need for a home from home holiday.

Home from home family holiday

We are just back from a great long weekend in Portpatrick with my three children. We really loved the place and the cottage. I would say Beach House has character and has a very homely feeling about it. If you are expecting the sterility of a modern hotel, go to a hotel, not here. If you want a stylish, homely, comfortable cottage with a gorgeous garden, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and very friendly and attentive landlords, and don't mind the odd resident spider spinning a web around the window frame, than this is the place for you.

A sandy beach (reduced at high tide) is across the road from the cottage, there are a number of sandy beaches in sheltered coves within a 15 minute walk as well as Luce Bay (which has an 11 mile beach) 7 miles away.


The nearest airport is Prestwick (circa 50 miles), The nearest ferry port is Cairnryan (Stena and P&O ferries) which sail to Belfast and Larne. There is a train stations in Stranraer with trains from Dumfries, Aye, Glasgow and Carlisle. There is a good bus service to Portpatrick from Stranraer, a bus stop across the road from the cottage. Once in Portpatrick a car is not essential, daily provisions can be obtained from 2 local shops and there are many restaurants & an excellent takeaway van.


Stranraer is 7 miles from Portpatrick.

Further Details:

Harbour House Hotel is a highly recommended eating place serving local produce and seafood, fish and chips superb!

For a takeaway there is a van by the village hall, fish and chips are second to none and they do great veggie options.
