About Mike

Having spent my childhood holidays in Porthcawl the memories brought me back to look for a property with a sea view. We came across this house and were blown away by its location with Newton beach on the doorstep and being so close to Porthcawl Harbour and Town. Such a good base being halfway between Cardiff and Swansea.

Mike purchased this house in 2012

Why Mike chose Porthcawl

The Beach House is set in a mews of 6 houses on a quiet private driveway right on the sand dunes of Newton Beach.

Newton beach is a sheltered bay and the walk on the South Wales Glamorgan Heritage Coastline can take you to the pretty village of Merthyr Mawr, Ogmore-by-Sea and Southerndown or, walk along the coastline to Porthcawl town, Rest Bay and walk the boardwalk between the Royal Porthcawl Golf Links and the sea, wonderful sunsets from here.

What makes this house unique

A quiet setting, the beach a 2 minute walk through the sand dunes. Sea views. Sun drenched gardens all day. A very warm and inviting home from home feel. Close to local amenities, a true "Beach House". 10 minute walk or 5 minute drive to Newton Village for local shopping and choice of places to eat or supping a glass or two! The Jolly Sailor being the first Public House to open in Porthcawl in 1818 which also has a very welcoming Restaurant for daytime and evening meals.

We found the beach house immaculate and fully equipped kitchen for home cooked meals.

  • 5 of 5

The beach house was only 5 min walk to the beach, past sand dunes pebbles to a lovely clean sandy beach. We spent many a time looking for shells etc. Also lots of different sea birds, oyster catchers, redshank, curlew etc. Newton is very well located for places of interest ; Kenfig National Nature Reserve 10min drive, Margham Park 15min drive. Porthcawl 10min, Bridgend 20min. We enjoyed it so much, we stayed an extra 3 days. We also plan to return in the spring. You couldn't ask for better hosts, Jackie and Mike were excellent. Cheers Rob and jo.

A lovely property, in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely holiday at the beach house. This property is a real home from home, there is even spare bedding for the children 'just incase'. We was greeted with a very warm welcome from Mike and Jackie & our girls love their gifts and the message on the fridge! We enjoyed our wine and delicious Welsh cakes that were left for us on arrival. These are just some of the little touches that made this a wonderful holiday. Literally just out of the gate over the sand dunes and you are on a quiet, clean beach. We all loved fossil hunting at southern down beach (approx 15 mins drive away). It is a picturesque beach with lots of fossils to see and find (Check tide times as tide comes right in).

We will be definitely be recommending this property to friends and family.

Thank you again Mike and Jackie !!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely clean and well maintained property.

Everything was as described.

The owners Mike and Jackie could not have been more helpful to us on our arrival.

Lots of local information at the property, very near to some great places to visit.

2 minutes walk over sand dunes to the beach.

We would certainly recommend this house to family, friends and other visitors.

Lovely beach view property

  • 5 of 5

The Beach House was amazing from the moment we walked through the door. We met the owners at the property Mike and Jackie were more than accomodating. They put us at ease, as it was Easter they had brought my daughter and Easter egg which I thought was a lovely touch they also let us with little gifts too which were very much appreciated. Mike and Jackie have put a lot into this property the beds we comfortable with plenty of wardrobe space and we enjoyed our stay, lots to see and do. My daughter enjoyed the independent riding experience and we enjoyed the views. The walks along the beach were beautiful as the weather was perfect. We ate out a lot which suited us lots of lovely restaurants in the town to visit. The Jolly sailor wasn't as good as the reviews on Tripadvisor but the staff were friendly. Thanks to Mike and Jackie for a lovely holiday.

Fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Such a lovely house and in a brilliant location in a lovely village and also just off the sand dunes. We stayed in the Winter and it was beautiful. We had a few rainy days but there was still lots to do in the area and there are plenty of lovely walks. The house is set in a peaceful location and you can hear the sea and waves as you step out of the door. It's a short walk away from a lovely pub and some shops. The house itself is immaculate, well equipped and Jackie and Mike were so welcoming and helpful. We will certainly be back again and would recommend to anyone, at any time of year! Many thanks to Jackie and Mike!

Beautifully presented house, fantastic location.

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place!

A warm, personal arrival from Mike and Jackie was the start to a wonderful week. The house was immaculate, and there were so many thoughtful touches, which made for a comfortable stay. The house is SO close to the beach that we could hear the waves, therapy from a busy life in itself.

The village of Newton we found relaxed and friendly, and we had some super local walks nearby. We were lucky with the Great British weather, but Cardiff and Swansea both close by, and a retail outlet if you really can't let go!

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Beach house to others- A big step up in the usual standard of places to rent in the U.K.
