About Clive Bartram

My wife runs a small business with our youngest daughter, she loves meeting people and has great sense of humour. I have loved and worked with old buildings for many years and continue to help clients, when they run into problems with difficult repairs. We both enjoy and value our down time together, we are always looking forward to and planning our next time out!

Like many people today we have travelled extensively, We like to stay in nice places, with a touch of luxury and charm. So we have tried to create a special destination that we would love to stay ourselves. We are therefore delighted when our guests express their pleasure in the breaks they have taken with us.

Clive Bartram purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Clive Bartram chose Malvern

We both fell in love with Oldcastle Farm when we first saw it, my wife loved the Tudor framed buildings named in the doomsday book which we have carefully restored over the years, I was taken with the position, sitting in the foothills of the Malverns, tucked away in a beautiful spot, with views to die for. We are part of a pretty village, with classic cricket green and Norman church. We are so close to all the amenities, the village and towns close by, with many social and cultural attractions, throughout the year.

What makes this cottage unique

Our four children have now all left home, I like to cycle and walk the hills, my wife likes to relax in true tranquillity. We both love the gardens and the lake with its wildlife, the duck chicks in the spring, it all gives us great pleasure as the seasons unfold. We are keen for our guests to enjoy all that Oldcastle offers and perhaps also to be captured by its atmosphere and beauty, as we have been.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“We recently stayed at Falstaff Cottage at Oldcastle Farm and what a fabulous venue it is, idyllic. The cottages are set in their own private grounds in a great spot to relax and enjoy the stunning views. The ambience and décor were superb, a combination of old and new, with modern touches to enjoy such as the hot tub which we took full advantage of. All the sights and amenities provided by this fabulous area of England are very nearby but after a day out we really looked forward to returning to our cottage. Many thanks to Clive and his family and staff for providing such a wonderful experience”

lovely setting, tranquil and picturesque

We had a wonderful stay at Falstaff Cottage and were made to feel very welcome by the owner, Clive. The grounds felt very secure and private, not to mention the amazing views and stunning scenery all around - a very beautiful spot which was perfect for our family getaway. The cottage was well equipped and we had everything we needed, there were a couple of things we asked for during our stay, which were then presented right away (i.e. an extra chair for the garden), Clive was very approachable and accommodating.

Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice, country retreat with peace, quiet, scenic views - total bliss!

Perfect Bank Holiday Retreat

  • 4 of 5

I spent the Easter Bank Holiday weekend with 5 friends at Falstaff Cottage and we had a great time.

Before our trip communication with the owner, Clive, was great. He answered all of our questions and gave us also the info we needed as well as handy directions and tips for the cottage. When we arrived he'd left a bottle of prosecco in the fridge and a box of chocolates! Lovely touch!

The cottage itself is beautiful and set in amazing grounds. There are high ceilings and beautiful furnishings as well as the lovely private hot tub and wet room, the amenities were great. On the first evening we stuck a bunch of pizzas in the oven for something quick and easy but there weren't any flat baking trays, just two deep ones which unfortunately both still had dried fat and grease in them. It wasn't a problem though, they just needed a quick wash!

The beds were comfortable and the grounds are super quiet although my two friends on the sofa bed said the mattress could do with replacing but it is a sofa bed after all! We had wanted to use the log burner and asked for a bundle but this wasn't there when we arrived, it wasn't needed though as the heating is amazing for such a spacious house! Nobody was chilly all weekend.

An abundance of towels and robes were also provided for us to use which was great.

The hot tub was lovely and a treat with a glass of fizz (courtesy of Clive); there are even plastic champagne flutes in the kitchen!

We had Easter Sunday Lunch at Colwall Park Hotel which is a 5 minute drive and it was incredible! My friends couldn't believe the value for money. We had scallops and top side of beef with a dessert for £23!

We also took a (40 minute) walk up the lane to the Malvern Hills pub which was a proper country pub with muddy boots left outside and dogs inside.

We met the owner, Clive, on our last day as we were checking out and he was unfortunately down with the flu and had been the whole weekend! He was, nonetheless, lovely and chatty.

Also look out for the little Westie dog roaming around and sometimes peering in through the French windows. Super cute!

I would definitely recommend Falstaff cottage as a getaway!

A lovely, relaxing stay at Falstaff cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage has a warm feeling with all you need for a lovely few days away.

On arrival we found prosecco and chocolates, a nice touch.

The cottage amenities were excellent, spacious and had everything we needed for our stay.

We spent some time chatting with Clive the owner who was more than happy to tell us about the history of the cottages.

Definitely recommend the cottages and would stay again, perhaps renting all three for the whole family.

My family and I stayed at Falstaff cottage and it was beautiful, so clean and tidy. The cottage has so much character, we didn't want to leave. I contacted Clive in advance as we wanted to bring our two dogs and he was so accommodating with us bringing them. The grounds are so beautiful and the surrounding area was gorgeous. Every day we took the dogs for a long walk and they absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend this cottage; we only stayed for the weekend but wished we had booked a week. Will definitely return in the future!
